People really think he was going to contribute this year?
I’m all for having the guy and potentially seeing what he can do next year but there’s no way in hell he was giving us anything valuable this year. This was the right call. |

Anthony goes down with a knee injury. Javale in foul trouble with 3 fouls in the first quarter. Dwight checks in an immediately commits a foul. 6 minutes left in the first. Hope this doesn’t come back to haunt us.
Edit: Another foul on Dwight. Oh, no... |

Boogie is physically not ready to play now or June. So nothing to lose when he’s already lost. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

No team can withstand losing 3 centers due to injury/fouls. Boogie is injured too. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

NBA rules allow a player waived when injured to continue rehabbing with that team. DeMarcus Cousins is unlikely to be formally released by the Lakers until Sunday ... and is expected to be granted access to keep using Laker facilities in his comeback from an ACL tear if needed

This allows Cousins to keep rehabilitating at the Lakers facility without needing to use a roster spot for him. This is an admission that he wasn't going to be ready to play this year.
And next year we can sign him if we want. Good move from Rob |

So this just means DMC won't be sitting on the bench cheering on the team? I mean if he's going to be allowed access to use Lakers facilities I guess the team are still treating him as part of the team even though he is no longer technically on the roster? |

I think DMC will get claimed by a team that won’t have cap-space next year and can claim him for $1m this year and give him 4.2 next year. |

I think it's up to him tbh. Unless it's a legit contender he wants to also play for I don't see it because he will not be happy after not being healthy for years with all the setbacks. He's turning 30 this year as well and knows his window is closing fast as far as being a possible high impact player for a championship team.
I have no doubt he's been given free reign to continue rehabbing in LA and a roster spot next season if he chooses that. |

I don’t see any issue with waiving Boogie. It’s not like the Lakers don’t pay him. He gets his full contract, and he can keep using our facilities and staff to help him rehab. I don’t know if he can still sit on the bench, but if the Lakers are inclined they could probably give him front row tickets if they’re so inclined. He wasn’t making it back this season, and on the very small chance he could have, he would have been a shadow of himself while recovering from a few major injuries with McGee and Howard both having shown themselves to be rotation players ahead of him. Trying to integrate a recovering Cousins during the playoffs would have been difficult at best and a disaster at worst. |

The Lakers made the right move, and it's the right move to let Boogie rehab in the Laker facilities.
Last comment I remember reading from Vogel was that Boogie is still a long ways from recovered.
Setting the facts aside and dreaming that the Lakers let Boogie play on these injuries, what we'd get is a player with zero training camp, little integration with the rest of the offense, who can't play defense other than stick his hands up because he's not mobile with the injuries, who's outside shot will be affected because he's got no lift on one leg, and who's remaining career is put in jeopardy because we're putting him in full contact, full effort NBA playoff action long before he's ready.
I've never been a Boogie fan prior to his donning a Laker uniform, but at least I care about this dude enough to recognize the importance of getting fully healed before taking to the court. Lakers are making the right move. We gave him a contract when nobody else would, and we're providing our rehab facilities so he can resume his career at some point next season. I don't think he's going to fly off to some 'playoff contender' for a lowball offer when he's got a title contender taking good care of him right here, right now. |

That's what I just came to type.
I will bet it was a mature and mutual decision.
If he was the GM/Owner it would be the most pragmatic decision
His spot would/could potentially cause us serious issues if he was never ready and voila now he stays with the team and we get a NOW player
who can offer load management immediately and produce for us full time
He is cheering us on like Family. Lebron is a unique man who seems to create a unique camaraderie imho..

Sign him as a big man coach for Kuzma and let him back on the bench. |
