Of the options out there, Wood seems like the best, but he's not exactly appealing since he's undersized and doesn't play defense.

I'd say sign him to maybe a non-guaranteed contract and see how it goes.

You think Wood would sign with a team that offered him a non-guaranteed contract at the veteran's minimum?

What if that's the only offer he gets? Seems like there's almost no market for him.

My guess is that he has a deal with Miami and they're waiting for the Dame talks to play out.

He seems to be a locker room issue. But I'm sure there are plenty of teams who would take a fly at him for the minimum. But only a few he would consider playing for. There is zero chance that no team offers him a minimum prior to the season beginning. I'm sure his agent already knows what teams are interested and is holding out to see how it plays out before making a choice.

One thing I remember about Christian Wood is he heavily respects AD.

I remember him saying that he would circle on his calendar when the Lakers would play against his team because it would mean he would be playing against AD.

Perhaps that might give incentive for him to come to the Lakers.

I don't think it's locker room related. Looked at some Mavs message boards and most stated he always handled being jerked around in the rotation in the positive manner, always said the right things in interviews, appeared to be happy for teammates on bench etc.

It's basically the Thomas Bryant effect. As a C, you have to be able to anchor the defense or you will bounce around.

I'd only assume if it's Wood he is spinning taking the minimum as a positive and how showcasing himself he is "doubling down" for a bigger contract next year. I get that we have interest, but it would just look weird he didn't wait for Miami or someone to gut their bench for a Lillard or Harden deal and get someone to show a path to say 24 minutes per game and touches as a top bench guy. I doubt he sees that with this roster, but if they sell him on it so be it.

Thanks for those. Gives me relief if he is picked up by the team.

Well he did get suspended in Houston for refusing to check into a game where he was benched to start

I would think that in a locker room with LeBron, AD, Ham and Handy, that kind of BS is not going to fly.

He's apparently hit rock bottom in terms of value. IF he came here, he'd (a) understand this is a potential final spot if things don't go well and (b) he's a bench big. If (b) bothers him and he acts up then (a) becomes a reality. So if he joins, he's got to be okay with mins and playing a role instead of being a main feature.

Why Christian Wood is never going to work on the Lakers

Quote:

Wood never seemed like a viable target for the Lake Show but his lackluster market has made him a potential minimum signing for the team.
After all, the Lakers have been able to buy low on players with no market and turn them into legitimate assets, just look at Malik Monk.

I'd be very disappointed in anyone who would take McGee over him at the minimum. stop it.

People have these weird fantasies of players coming in and destroying team chemistry, when in reality that only happens once in a blue moon and is usually superstars on max contracts doing that stuff. How many minimum role players have derailed a teamā€™s season lol?

As has been already said, Wood for the minimum would be great value especially for the regular season. You need able bodies to play all those games that AD/Lebron are going to miss. Now he might be right down unplayable in the playoffs, but ADā€™s gonna be playing the 5 for the most part by then anyway.

Cranjis breakdown of Wood:

https://twitter.com/tim_nba/status/1684171553301209090

Heā€™s basically a millionaireā€™s manā€™s Thomas Bryant on both offense & defense.

If we can get that for the min, Lakers should take it.

At this point, I don't think he's coming here. IF Miami does a Dame deal, they will have so many roster slots to fill and I can actually see Wood/Oubre possibly both joining as they could get a ton of playing spot on a potentially contending team.

Christian Wood is not good defensively, so saying he's better than Thomas Bryant, isn't saying much.

But Thomas has more weight on him.

They cancel out offensively, except Christian Wood is the better dribbler.

Would be 2 amazing value signings at the VM.

Would Riley or Jimmy Butler put up with Wood's bullsh*t?

This is one case where LBJ and AD's relative passivity might pay off for us.

After all we did manage to work with Dwight and Boogie at various points.

If no one is offering those 2 more than the minimum, why not go to a team that may start both of them?

Wood to me is has the negative reception in that no one doesnā€™t know what your gonna get in a 82 game season
