I think that you make some good points but some are incorrect. I don't know if you're realized it or not, but your videos shape perception of our players, good and bad. Some people who have never played organized basketball listen to you call out plays and basketball lingo and take what you say as fact.
Let's be honest, a lot of it's opinions.
KCP does more good on the defensive end than bad.
Ingram often lacks effort fighting over and under screens.
Rotations 1 pass away are FINE if it's a part of the TEAM D-Scheme. Wall the ball off and force passes over head while helping the helper. Your short explanation left that part out which is detrimental to those who don't know better.
I could name about 10 things you cited that honestly could go either way and assumed the viewer has enough knowledge to recognize who made which mistake and what the overall gameplan is. You can't keep making it seem as black and white as "KCP lost his man".
Be careful in your analysis. Your bias, intentional or unintentional, has an effect on our fanbase. |
This video is about why the Lakers have been giving up so many points recently, and KCP has been absolutely terrible during this stretch, regardless of how he normally is. His on ball defense against McConnell and allowing Redick the layup on the SLOB were inexcusably bad. And I've criticized Ingram for dying on screens quite a bit. It's just not a big factor in why we're giving up 135.7 ppg over the last 3 games.
The observation about helping one pass away was a criticism of the coaching staff. The Lakers don't have the size on the perimeter to stunt effectively and force those over the top passes, and that leads to easy shots. It's not practical for me to explain every element of the how/what/why on every play.
I have a process in place to help mitigate against my biases. For this video, I took every made basket and every time they drew free throws, and separated them by whose fault it was on that play, or if it was good defense and Philly just made the shot anyway. The players who screwed up most frequently are the ones who were highlighted the most. It's not me picking & choosing - it's all right there in front of me.
There's also an element of guess work. Is it possible that they wanted LeBron in a drop coverage as Redick was coming off of a Simmons screen? Sure. I just don't think that's likely. I assign credit/blame based on what I know of the Lakers' scheme.
I'd be happy to hear what those 10 things are.

Like, this isn't KCP stunting, it's him losing his man. He lost track of McConnell before the Redick ball screen even developed.

Defense is technique, commitment, communication, and hustle.
The team as it is today, has none of the above. |

Yes, and it's funny how they keep pointing "but we're without Lonzo" as an excuse for defensive short comings. If they themselves are not aware of that, then we're more screwed than I thought. |

We need our best perimeter defender back, Lonzo is the reason we've been getting out on the break. LeBron is going to have a hard time winning games on this team without Lonzo. |

Fiendish's article: The Long Road Toward a Respectable Lakers Defense: This is INCREDIBLE work by our dude. He put weeks of effort into this, and it's nothing short of brilliant.
Offense by Set Data: I've tracked & charted every Laker possession this year, and these are the results by each play that they run. This has a "to the best of my ability" disclaimer to it, but every play is hyperlinked so that you can learn what the action is. http://lakerfilmroom.com/offense-by-set/
Tox will have an excellent piece on Brandon Ingram coming out soon. Enjoy the site, y'all. (and then come back to LG to chat...there won't be a forum on my site) |
Hey did you move your hosting? I'm getting a bunch of 404's |

GT, when you're at the next presser, would you mind asking Luke if all of the vets are at the 7% body fat threshold?
I assume you have the kind of job security now to ask T.J. Simers style troll questions _________________ Under New Management |

When people talk about BBIQ, I often think of awareness of the moving parts around you and how they are likely to act. That includes awareness of physical position on the floor, time and circumstance, opposing personnel, game plan. I've always had the sense that KCP was a little lost with those things. That's not calling him dumb. It's actually a really complicated thing that he just happens to be poor at.
On the defensive end you can make up for that if you have good communication, especially if you have a strong defensive captain.
The Lakers do not. |

Great breakdown. The mistakes made me cry on the inside. We're 60 games in and this team seems worse every game. |

I agree - great breakdown as always GT. And yes - 60 games in, crunch time for making the playoffs. We hear of yelling matches between Luke and Beasley/McGee/Stephenson, then we have the AD trade fiasco, and now the Vet leadership is just going through the motions, mailing it in and we're losing to cellar teams. Is it really as bad as it looks in the Laker locker room? |
