If it’s not Kawhi I don’t want anyone else getting that max
I rather go to Beverley, Redick and Danny Green and offer them each a 3 yr 32M contract and eat up the whole cap
True max player will receive max contract every year. Price of role players fluctuate depends on the supply and demand. This is not the right years to go for role players if we have a choice. To me true max players are KL, Irving and Butler. In fact, if not because we have to go all in next season,I would prefer signing KD or Thompson over role playes. Kemba Walker might not be a true max player but if he can score average 25 points in a star-less Charlotte, his numbers might become very good next to Lebron and AD.
Not sure I agree Butler is a true max player. Let's put it this way, if the Lakers happen to have 32.5m in cap space and strike out on Kawhi and Kyrie, there is no way they will offer 32.5 to Butler.
To me the definition of a true max player is that you are willing to sacrifice roster deficiencies to sign them because you absolutely cannot pass up on a superstar. I believe Kawhi and Kyrie are the only ones that fit into this definition out of all the guys that are available in the offseason.
Kawhi is definitely one level above Butler and Irving. Irving is super gifted on the offensive side. Butler is a better two way player. They are at the same level to me. Paul George got max money, Hayward got max money, I think Butler’s impact to the game is somewhere in between so I think he deserves the max. He also fits with the team. We need a lock down perimeter defender on the wing and there isn’t a better option.
It's a No-Brainer IMO.
If that player is Kyrie Irving, then you definitely make that decision. Same with Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, Kemba Walker.
Why? Its simple... Those players at their Max give you a solid competitive team for the next 5 years at the very minimum and a lot can change between now and then. With another Max guy on the team, there will definitely be room to round out the roster with Vet-Min guys, one year guys who are capable of competing and helping to win a Championship.
Even without a Max Player we still have a "BIG-3" IMO, because it seems like people are sleeping on Kuzma!
Either way the Lakers win, because if they don't pickup another Max player, they can simply put pieces around these guys and sky's the limit. Here's my thoughts on completing the roster.
Rotation with No Max Player:
Elfrid Payton - KCP - LeBron - Kuzma - AD
Rondo - Stephenson - Trevor Ariza - Wagner - McGee
Rotation with Max Player:
Kyrie Irving - KCP - LeBron - Kuzma - AD
Rondo - Seth Curry - Stephenson - Marcus Morris- McGee
When you look from a position standpoint, the question truly becomes where does LeBron see himself playing next year. If he see's himself being a point forward and posting up against smaller guards or forwards, then players like Kyrie/Kemba who are truly Combo-Guards will work, because they take on more of the scoring role.
It will interesting to say the least...
Let the fun and games begin!

I love the optimism of your bench signings. I expect there to be some free agents willing to sacrifice some salary. But not guys in their prime or taking cuts of 50% or more. Maybe a couple but more likely it will be older ring chasers or inconsistent bench players. (As one example-think Melo or Muscala instead of Morris)
After signing the 3rd max. Lakers only have vet mins of approx $2-2.5M and perhaps an exception of approx $5M if the timing allows it.
- Curry and McGee both made near min last year. Both outperformed their contracts and likely looking for more.
- Morris ($5.3M) and Stephenson ($4.4M) likely offered more, especially Morris.
- Rondo ($9M) and KCP ($12M) may take paycuts this season but to $2M?
Ambitious expectations. IMO. If they can land a couple of those options I would consider it a great job by the FO. All of them???
Lakers depth is going to be marginal and inconsistent with this plan. Big Three playing big mpg and needing to recover lost leads when they go to the bench on most nights. Load management nights are a luxury that they might not have as much as they like.

We have no secondary ball-handlers.
Need to get Collison.
Collison Danny Green and Brook Lopez are my 3 main targets, then you fill out the rest with some vet ring chaser, maybe Ariza, bring Tyson Chandler back and Rondo. _________________ Ringo "You retired too?"

Collison and Lopez are my 2 top roster-depth targets.
Then Seth Curry and/or Rodney Hood. We'd need Curry more if we don't get Collison, and he's a better ball-handler and more reliable shooter than Hood. But if we don't get Bullock back then we have NO ONE between 6-3 and 6-9, and that just isn't good defensive balance. We need a good mid-size swingman or 2. Hurting Portland's depth is just an added bonus either way.
Ya he’s a free agent. Last years salary was $3.5 mil, not sure what he generates on the market...maybe $5-$7? He had a good year last year but he ghosted when playing with LeBron previous to that.
The money guys are getting right now is why I wanted a max guy. Only way you can get value in a market like this is to get a true max guy, who was always going to outplay his contract, or wait until the frenzy dies and then pick among the leftovers.

Bump. I prefer the outcome we actually got to having Kemba, Russell, or Butler, but not to Kyrie or Kawhi. I wish we'd paid Green less and been able to get Beverly instead of Avery Bradley. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Rather have DLO/Leonard/Kyrie/Butler than our depth/free agent signings.

Yeah
Any plan that includes overpaying KCP isn't worth having over a max free agent.
