I don't get.
1. We've got 8 guards listed on the roster. EIGHT!
2. Then we also have a 6'9" superstar small forward who dominates the ball like a point GUARD.
3. And we also have a 6'10" center who wants to call himself a power forward, but loves to hang out beyond the 3 point line and jack up 3's, like a GUARD.
The lack of balance without traditional big positions and lane players is ridiculous.
Everybody is lurking on the perimeter, deferring, hesitating, with little to nothing happening within 15 feet of the basket.
We got offensive outrebounded by the tiny Golden State Warriors because 95% of our team is hanging out by the arc.
There's no inside out game, there's no need to double-team anyone down low, there's no getting the other team's bigs in foul trouble, there's barely any pick and roll...
It's all stand around and defer to another guard or wannabe guard until the clock winds down, then go isolation or jack up a jumper.
Even the bigs want to jack up deep jumpers. Everyone wants to be a guard except for Dwight Howard and Deandre Jordan.
It's like the organization realized it needed shooters and playmakers so it would not have to rely on Lebron so much, so they overcompensated with a Seven, make it 8, Dwarfs and a superstar big who wants to play small ball, too.
There's no chemistry, no complementary action, no flow, not because it's a new season, or because there are new players, but because we've got 8 guys who all play the same position, and 2 big guys who want to do the same.
Never have I been so thrilled to see Dwight Howard enter the game (he's the guy that plays within 15 feet of the rim.) |
