Nancy Armour published an article on usatoday calling Kobe a rapist the day after he died.

That's unfair and not really accurate. Her opinion piece was much more nuanced than that.

Here is the piece in question:

That is some rolling stone (bleep).

Mikan is a tough guy to rank, because the 50s were so different.

He probably had the greatest combination of team and personal success of any player other than Jordan.

His career only lasted 7 and half years.

In that time, his team won 5 rings. He probably would have won 3 or 4 MVP awards if the award had existed in that time.

Yup, I know all about this.

The ring you're talking about was from a league called the NBL, whose records aren't recognized by the NBA.

In the eyes of the NBA, Mikan has won 5 rings.

I don't get worked up by the "should-the-NBL-ring count?" debate myself. The more important point, to me, is that Mikan's teams won almost every year he played a full season.

Mikan dominant his era more than any other player dominated theirs. But it's hard to say what that means since his era was so different. If you could transport him from the 1940s to the NBA today, he probably couldn't make it into the league.
