This is almost as bad as when the Lakers didn't have an elite wing to guard Kawhi in 2020. Oh wait... _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

Yep.
Is Marcus Banks still available? _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns". |

Hard to see the appeal for Porter Jr. who is looking to prove he’s worth that next major payday.

I don’t know about that LF.
Otto could have competed with Ariza (or replaced Ariza if he took his vet min spot on the roster in FA) at the other forward spot beside Bron.
THT would have competed with Ellington & Monk for that other guard spot beside Russ.
Personally, seeing how Ariza has treated the regular season the past several years, I wound have gone harder at Otto instead of Ellington and had those 2 compete or share minutes at the wing, if the plan was to have THT see more regular season minutes. We would have fielded a more versatile lineup with that configuration rather than Ellington competing with THT/Monk for that 2 spot. Both Oram & Buha suggest Ariza was the starter at the 3 with THT looking to earn the starting spot at the 2.
Quote: | With [Russell] Westbrook aboard, sources said [Anthony] Davis has emerged as the expected starting center, clearing the way for a likely starting five of him, Westbrook, [Wayne] Ellington, [Trevor] Ariza and [LeBron] James, according to sources,” wrote Bill Oram, Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic. “Third-year guard Talen Horton-Tucker, a rising, young talent for the Lakers, is also expected to compete in camp for a possible starting role.”
|
Quote: | Buha: The news is a blow for the Lakers on multiple levels.
First, Ariza was a projected starting forward alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James. This throws a wrench in those plans. By the time Ariza suits up for the Lakers, it’ll be early December — at the earliest. The Lakers are going to have to go in a different direction with the starting group — and potentially bigger, sliding Davis to power forward, as the Lakers don’t have another rangy wing to replace Ariza.
Second, Ariza’s absence not only changes the starting group but the closing group, as well (and likely some small-ball lineups during games, too). The Lakers have preferred to close games with Davis, James and three perimeter players in the Frank Vogel regime.

We don't whether or how hard the front office pursued Otto. Given that he was looking at a vet min contract either way, he may just have preferred playing with the Warriors, whether because of personal connections or because he thought he could showcase himself better in the Warriors' system. Some guys just don't want to play for the Lakers or with Lebron for whatever reason.
As an aside, it's sort of crazy that Otto got a $100M+ contract just four years ago. I seem to remember that he had a back issue or something like that, but man, he really fell off the earth. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved |

Folks poo-pooing the fact we have no size at the wing position outside of 37 year old Bron will see the light soon enough. _________________ Everyting negative - pressure, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise.
