Did not like almost fully Dismantling our title team last year.
This year I think the lakers did the best with what they were dealt.
All other big name guys (Lowry, D Roz) would’ve required a sign and trade and hard cap. Getting westbrook without having to hard cap ourselves was as good as we can do.
I get the Hield trade but that would leave us with Lebron as the only playmaker.
Losing KCP and Caruso sucks badly but I hope THT is what the front office things he is.
They rolled the dice, don't know how it would've came out had LBJ and AD been healthy. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

I also think Avery Bradley was a big loss, even if he didn’t play in the bubble. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

100% accurate. 💯
People talk about injuries, however had the Lakers kept Dwight, the injuries sustained by AD last season may have been minimized.
Pelinka should’ve locked in Dwight, and he still could’ve made the exact same moves he did last season like trading for Schröder and also traded McGee for Gasol, that was the right move considering how McGee got manhandled a few months ago in the playoffs by Jokic.
When Dwight left, it forced Vogel to play AD at the 5 very early on, basically as early as the 1st game of the regular season.
Remember Vogel said a few months previously in the playoffs:
Frank Vogel admitted that the Lakers are trying to protect Davis from injury since the center spot takes a lot of beating during games. It also helps that Los Angeles has a future Hall of Famer starting at center in Dwight Howard.
This was the playoffs, but Vogel was still limiting how many mins AD played at the 5 during the playoffs.
Having Dwight really help limit AD from playing too many mins at the 5 last season. But with Dwight no more, AD practically had to start playing the 5 at the beginning of the regular season. What happens? He suffers a mild injury in the 1st game of the 2021 season, then reactivates it on game 2.
Vogel said Davis suffered the injury on opening night against the Clippers and then reaggravated it in the third quarter of the Lakers' Christmas Day win over the Dallas Mavericks.
That was the start of AD’s injury plagued season last year, all because he had to switch playing to the 5 very early on.
+1.
AD gets injured more times playing the 5. His injury could’ve either been prevented or at least been minimized if Lakers had a real center backing him up to take all the beating from the start of the season. Having Dwight meant AD wouldn’t have to put so much strain on his body so early in the year.
Even though LeBron was the MVP, AD was the anchor. Lakers were 21-7, but the moment AD got his 3rd injury and finally went down, Lakers even with LeBron became a .500 team going 7-7 before Solomon Hill. LeBron's injury was a freak accident, but who knows what would’ve happened if Lakers still had AD playing those extra 14 games because it would’ve definitely have lessened LeBron’s minutes and all the double teams he was getting in those stretches without AD. Would’ve been a very different season. _________________

The bottom line is we couldn't recover from gimpy LBJ and injured AD. Simple as that. On a smaller scale, losing Dwight didn't help. Same for Rondo.
I think the Lakers and Rajon both learned the value of him. Vogel needs rajon in his ear. And Rondo needs to be on a team that values his IQ. look at him with the clips. Kawhi didn't want to hear anything from him. Neither did Lue. In fact Lue benched rondo for being rondo. Won't happen with the Lakers.
If he's not playing on the floor, he's coaching on the bench with Frank.
Lue benched Rondo because Reggie Jackson was head and shoulders better. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
I would like to see Pelinka find a way to get more young players to develop. Cacock and Kostas weren’t great. Caruso and Kuz are gone, and only Tucker remains in the pipeline. But t doesn’t need to be a blue chip prospect. But he could leverage financial resources to get a guy in the 30s. I’m guessing that may be part of the reason he reprised the 2nd round picks in the Westbrook deal. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night.

While I don't disagree with much of this...I find it so sad that we have to protect our best player from playing too physical on the court.
Hindsight is 20/20. I don't think any of the moves were necessarily that bad it just didn't work out.
Getting two 6mans of the year in their prime sounds good on paper. But injuries and bad chemistry derailed the team. I like how Pelinka swings for the fences. I don't think re-signing Dwight or not trading for DS changes much. Injuries gave us no shot
The only true mistake last season was not load managing at the beginning of the season and I'll die on this hill talking about load managing.

People keep brining up injuries but there is a cause and effect why injuries happen.
Load managing AD and LeBron could’ve prevented injuries but it’s harder to load manage AD when Lakers had no other defensive anchor by not resigning Dwight and trading McGee. And it’s harder to load manage LeBron when Lakers had no other playmaker on the team by not replacing Rondo. _________________ Tacos

In a word: over-adjusting by trying to shore up weaknesses while creating new weaknesses.
Added Gasol for spacing at 5, but lost verticality from McGee/ Dwight.
Added Harrell for extra offense and energy big in event of AD injury/ fatigue, lost defense of McGee/ Howard.
Added Shroo for playmaking, lost defensive size and reputation-gravity of Green on perimeter.
Added Matthews to replace Green, but not enough to match Green's gravity and length.
Added Drummond mid-season, but gained no extra finishing or defensive presence from it.
Lost Bradley (defense) and Rondo (offense) as veteran presence on bench, never replaced.

Would any of this have mattered with a healthy AD & LeBron? _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

"Mistakes"
1) Not kissing Dwight's ass enough to get him to sign in the first hour
2) Not load balancing LeBron against the Hawks
3) Not keeping Damian over Dudley
4) Not putting Schroeder in a hamster bubble when off the court
5) Not verifying that Vogel would actually use Marc if we got him
Any time Kuzma is your STARTING ball handler in a game, you're missing key personnel.
I don't think we can count injuries as a mistake the front office made. Other than that the Drummond signing was very meh, didn't help on the court and made chemistry an issue.

I genuinely think so. Even with LBJ and AD at full strength as they were in the 2020 playoffs:
-- Semis - likely against Nuggets. Even with Murray out, Jokic would've been a lot for AD to handle due to the weight difference, and we know of Trez' difficulties with him in the past. While Marc had similar bulk, Jokic would've been a handful for him based on the difference in quickness, and Drummond's defense was suspect, at best. No telling what Shroo would've done by that point post-COVID.
-- WCF - likely against Clippers. The lack of seasoned defenders like Green and Bradley would've been noticeable. Also, the Clips' penchant for using multiple swingmen at once would've left Gasol and Drummond riding the pine.
-- Finals - that would've been something. AD vs Giannis would've been legendary. But again, Lopez would be there to draw out any other bigs, and the lack of Dwight would've meant one less mobile/ energetic/ STRONG body to throw at Giannis, so we would've had to go exclusively AD and/or LBJ on him, which would've increased foul trouble for them.
The mistake was not being an Oracle and insisting AD sit out the first month or two of the season. The second mistake was Pelinka not being ready to throw himself at Solomon Hill before he took out Lebron’s leg. AD stays healthy, Lakers likely make the finals. Hell, if Solomon Hill never took out Lebron I’m pretty sure the Lakers make it to the WCFs even with AD sidelined.
