He said in an interview that wanted out of Washington in 1998 and his preferred destination was the Lakers. He said he thought there was gonna be a trade involving Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones and Elden Campbell for him was gonna happen. Instead, he got dealt to the Kings. Imagine, Kobe, Shaq & C-Webb on the same team in a Lakers uniform. Would you say that would have been a great trade? How many NBA Championships would they win?

Between C-Webb and Pippen that would have been a intriguing scenario to choose from, to bad we didn’t get 1 of them and instead got Glen Rice.

There was a LOT of talk about that, but after the Lakers signed Shaq and Kobe "forced" his way to LA, there seemed to be a strong "don't trade with the Lakers" sentiment around the league.

Simply put, a healthy Chris Webber would've been the PERFECT player to team with Shaq and Kobe. Great perimeter shooter, great passer, great rebounder, great weakside shot blocker and great defender.

Would have been a hell of a 3rd piece. The one I wanted though was the T-Mac deal. That one would have lasted past 04.

Now imagine on top of that, if the Lakers allowed Jerry West to do that trade that would have landed them the pick to draft T-Mac?

Derek Fisher
Kobe Bryant
Tracy McGrady
Chris Webber
Shaquille O’Neal

6 peat?

Would've been a deep team but I really don't see the results would differ that much. The team was gassed after the 3rd championship. Probably would've won in 04, but after that many years together they would've eventually broken up anyways.

If only Kobe and Shaq had a real third star, they could have been the greatest dynasty ever.

Kobe and Shaq could have been the greatest alone if not for their ego issues. Can't see how a third ego would help there...

Glen Rice's roll was extremely underrated

Always thought the lakers package was better than Mitch Richmond and Otis Thorpe

He was easily replaced internally by Rick Fox.

Who would be coaching the team? Would it be Del Harris or Kurt Rambis? If the 1999 team had a stronger year maybe Phil never coaches in LA.

He wasn't the same shooter after wrist surgery. Early in the season he was creating space based on reputation rather than execution. When his FG% fell, so did the space he created for Shaq. And of course like most pure shooters, defense wasn't his forte. It's sad because the Rice that complimented Anthony Mason so well was MIA in LA.

That was his role. His roll though…

That Lakers team was 67-15 even with Kobe only playing 66 games. How many do you think they would have won if Kobe had played all 82?

Maybe, but I still see Kobe wanting to take on a bigger role and grow his game....whatever team he was on it would've eventually broken up because the personalities would eventually tire of each other. See the loaded Warriors dynasty a couple years ago.

Webber was a clearly lesser player than Kobe though. But would Webber have been able to accept being the third (or even second) banana as a former #1 pick and leader of the Fab Five?

That was Glen Rice's value. Kobe missed the first 15 games of the season but it didn't matter so much, the Lakers went 11-4. Teams at first respected Glen Rice's shot, even though it had stopped sinking. But what really propelled them was Shaq's otherworldly level of play, which he never sustained. But Kobe had his coming out party during the playoffs, both in helping dispatch Portland in Game 7 of the WCFs, and during that epic Game 4 of the Finals when he dismantled the Pacers in OT after Shaq fouled out.
