This is very good news. The sort of bad news is that as more sane people leave the Republican party, it further concentrates the crazy inside the GOP.

USA Today: Gallup poll shows largest increase in Democratic Party affiliation in a decade

Quote:
More Americans identify as Democrats than Republicans by a margin that hasn't been seen in a decade, according to a report released by Gallup on Wednesday.

An average of 49% of adults age 18 and older reported Democratic Party affiliation or said they are independent with Democratic leanings throughout the first quarter of 2021, the pollster reported. The survey was conducted by phone from January-March.

In comparison, 40% of adults identified as Republican or Republican-leaning. The 9% difference is the Democrats' largest advantage since the fourth quarter of 2012, according to the report.

The remaining 11% of respondents were political independents with no partisan leanings.

Democrats have typically held a 4 to 6 point advantage over Republicans. Shortly before the first quarter of the year, the gap in affiliation was virtually nonexistent before Democrats' advantage widened by 9%.

Quote:
The report also noted a 6% increase in independents; from 38% in the fourth quarter of 2020 to 44% in the first quarter of 2021. It's the highest percentage since 2013, when 46% of survey respondents identified as independents. The rise correlates with the decline in Republican Party identification, just as in 2013, when the GOP saw a drop in the popularity during the government shutdown over the Affordable Care Act.

That seems suspicious, as at least a few percentage of the independents would lean GOP, but refuse to say so?

Is it more of the, I want to be quiet so I'm not frowned upon like what happened with the Donny voters?

I think this where they included R-leaning Independents.

The 11% are probably low information voters who truly are clueless most of the time and mistakenly think both sides are the same because they aren't paying attention most of the time.

Most independents are low information voters, but even most of them lean in voting (if they vote), and it is also true that a lot of people on the fringe of a party affiliation tend to claim independent, more so when there is friction in the party.

The best numbers I’ve been given by people who do it for a living is that about 40% of the country is reliably blue, 30-35% reliably red, and the balance are a combination of non voters or leaners who can sometimes go the other direction temporarily while something they dislike is Halle in non their lean side. That’s what you’re seeing now. Unfortunately, there has never been much durability to that cohort, and things can change wildly. Whether the direction of the GOP hardens migration remains to be seen.

GOP: Your ideology and party are crap, since you need to sell fear and hate to convince people to vote for your candidates.

Thank goodness most whites in this country are not ignorant and racist GOP hacks.

Did Q out himself?

In the final episode of Cullen Hogbacks’ six-part QAnon documentary, which aired late Sunday night, the administrator of 8kun effectively admitted to posting there as Q, the conspiracy movement’s anonymous leader.

The video is hardly conclusive, but it sure looks like he might have. Not that it will change anything.

Iirc, there’s a father and son involved there and it’s been posited that one or both are Q. It makes a lot of sense, but it also makes some sense for him to claim it even if not.

Around a third of registered voters in the U.S. (34%) identify as independents, while 33% identify as Democrats and 29% identify as Republicans, according to a Center analysis of Americans’ partisan identification based on surveys of more than 12,000 registered voters in 2018 and 2019.

Most independents in the U.S. lean toward one of the two major parties. When taking independents’ partisan leanings into account, 49% of all registered voters either identify as Democrats or lean to the party, while 44% identify as Republicans or lean to the GOP.

...

Non-Hispanic White Americans make up the largest share of registered voters in the U.S., at 69% of the total as of 2019. Hispanic and Black registered voters each account for 11% of the total, while those from other racial or ethnic backgrounds account for the remainder (8%).

White voters account for a diminished share of registered voters than in the past, declining from 85% in 1996 to 69% ahead of this year’s election. This change has unfolded in both parties, but White voters have consistently accounted for a much larger share of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters than of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters (81% vs. 59% as of 2019).

The racial and ethnic composition of the electorate looks very different nationally than in several key battleground states, according to a Center analysis of 2018 data based on eligible voters – that is, U.S. citizens ages 18 and older, regardless of whether or not they were registered to vote.

White Americans accounted for 67% of eligible voters nationally in 2018, but they represented a much larger share in several key battlegrounds in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, including Wisconsin (86%), Ohio (82%), Pennsylvania (81%) and Michigan (79%). The reverse was true in some battleground states in the West and South. For example, the White share of eligible voters was below the national average in Nevada (58%), Florida (61%) and Arizona (63%). You can see racial and ethnic breakdown of eligible voters in all 50 states – and how it changed between 2000 and 2018 – with this interactive feature.

The Senate is broken. The Republican party is broken. Working under the theory that any legislation could pass on a bi-partisan basis outside of budget reconciliation or via filibuster reform is completely delusional, ignorant and disingenuous. Sinema isn't much better as she has said much the same. Somebody needs to put a serious squeeze on these two. Make them feel some political pain. Really, only Schumer or Biden are in that position.

But yeah, I loathe him as much as I loathe McConnell because both are causing gridlock and pain for real American people. They are playing the worst political games with people's lives in favor of their own personal power. Disgusting. I hope very bad karma catches up with both of them.

Manchin is getting trashed on Twitter from across the spectrum:

Quote:
Ari Berman @AriBerman

Joe Manchin represents a state that is 1/22 the population of California & 92% white yet he can singlehandedly block policies supported by 70-80% of Americans. This is why the US Senate is so broken

This is not how Democracy is supposed to work.

Quote:
Jon Favreau @jonfavs

Someone should ask Joe Manchin which 10 Republicans he’s bringing along on his bipartisan version of the For the People Act.

If he wants to play Prime Minister, show us the version of the legislation that gets 60 votes, and then go get them

It's very disturbing to see how much influence Trump still has on our political system. Though he's not in office his ideas and racial positions are. He's in the news daily as are his racist positions. Trump has so changed the political landscape to lean toward lying and corruption it's going to take some time to heal the rift.
