Kikanga,
Check out the Cello Concerto by Dvorak. It's my favorite concerto for that instrument. There's a bunch of recordings on Youtube.
But I tend to like the sound of the cello more as part of a string quartet (2 violins, viola, and cello).
Any string quartet by Beethoven is good (the latter ones are bit more challenging to get into at first), and all mature string quartets by Mozart are great (my favorite is K464). Mozart also wrote a few great string quintets, with an extra viola being added. String quintet K515 is one of my all time favorite pieces of music.
Brahms' string quartet in A minor is a nice one.
Shostakovich also wrote a bunch of great string quartets, my favorite is String Quartet No. 6.
Some would automatically tell you to listen to Bach's cello suites, the first one of them being featured in every movie and commercial (you have heard it, I guarantee it). I mean, they're great, but the above pieces are more interesting and more rewarding to the listener.
Years ago, you told me that you didn't like the cello as a solo instrument. That made me seek out every solo I could get my hands on so I could send the best ones to you to try and change your mind like "really? You think this sounds bad?" I ended up not bothering you with it, but it was during that time that I found Yo-Yo Ma's performances of Caprice No. 24, the Bach suites, and the record he made with Bobby McFerrin, which is one of my most treasured pieces of music.
Bingo. I could listen to yo yo ma all day. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

Name a song between 1950-2000. And I'll give you a better song that came out after that.
People who claimed music peaked before 2000 either (a) haven't been exposed to quality new music or (b) are old fogies who don't know better.
You can't.
There's a reason 2K is the boundary in most peoples' claims along those lines. It's because they all remembered Y2K being ushered in by battling boy bands, incessant repeats of Mambo No. 5, and La Vida Loca, and Britney/her ilk. They and others were the collective grim reaper for popular music if not music in general. That sh was turrible. Boy bands were the real Y2K bug.
As to 1950! as the starting point, there were these 4 lads called The Beatles. They were aite. The world loves them, but even if that selection is mighty wight of me slash predictable, there have also been jillions of African-American music acts from 50-90 that weren't too shabby either. "What's Goin On?" by Marvin? No? _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

The only thing I consistently bought there over the last 8 years was Pepper Spray, it was always real cheep, like $4 bucks each... _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”

I love his color commentary. He says "It's THe Greatest Thing In Western Civilization" or something like that. He's very knowledgeable. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I'm not a fan of country music but just like rap, which I'm also not a fan of, the lyrics tell a story. THIS is a favorite of mine. Waylon Jennings' and Willie Nelson _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I've seen my dog sleep through fireworks, earthquakes, and lightning. But when I played your link, he got up out of a dead sleep and walked away.
He's just like me. He hates country music. Too much twang. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

I can take some country, just like I can stomach a bit of southern accent, but too much of it is an easy point to get to. Doesn’t help that while the accent and the music sound kind of low rent and ignorant (and then there are the hillbilly costumes and the trucks and guns and hounds and such), the subject matter often backs up the initial impression. I get to “who gives a (bleep) if your sister/cousin/girlfriend thinks your tractor is sexy?” real quick.
There, am I doing it right? _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel
