So Kenin had acute appendicitis and surgery a couple days ago. Explains her play last week.

Yeah I saw that, and you would have to think that's why she sucked lol.

Osaka pretty much rolled to the title, although at least Brady didn't give up after a demoralizing finish to the first set. With both ladies playing scratchy tennis, Osaka found herself down 0-30 at 4-4 in the first set, and on her second serve. Brady cracked the return long and missed a golden chance there, and then Osaka hit a forehand winner from the baseline on break point to stay in the game and eventually held. Then at 4-5, and at 30-30, Brady lost the last 2 points to lose the set, points she was clearly ahead in, especially the last one, where she netted a routine forehand from well inside the service box. Before you knew it, Osaka was up 4-0 in the 2nd set, rolling off 6 games in a row.
Brady fought back to get a break and at least made it somewhat interesting, but Osaka still served it out pretty routinely from there, winning the 2nd set 6-3.

She's up to 4 major titles now, and seems to really have the hard courts on lockdown right now. Who knows if she will become great on clay, but I don't see a reason why she shouldn't master the grass soon. I see no fewer than 10 majors for her, and she has a chance to start to roll it up for the next few years here.

Rooting for Medvedev and hoping by my some miracle Fed can hold his GS record. Any little drop off from Djokovic by the slightest of margins can turn the tide of the h2h between Fed and Djoker similar to how Djoker turned the tide of his h2h with Federer from decisively Federer to decisively Djokovic once he improved his serve. Similarly Fed's myriad changes and Nadal's slight loss of court coverage completely turned that dynamic as well.

Djokovic is only a very slight -130 favorite tonight, with Medvedev at Even money. Interesting. As Brad Gilbert said last night, beating Novak at Rod Laver Arena is the second-toughest ask in tennis, behind only beating Nadal in Paris.

There’s little hope for Federer at this point. 39 turning 40 this year. When he comes back in March he will have taken 14 months off and coming off of 2 knee surgeries.

It’d be a miracle if he can still compete with Nadal and Djokovic.

In other news, Andreescu is injured AGAIN. I wonder if her body just isn't cut out for this for years, kind of like Del Potro. Would be a real shame.

There are very few men who can legitimately outplay Novak on hard courts when Novak is actually feeling good. Kyrgios serving out of his mind would be one as he is one of the very few (maybe the only one who can actually also move) Djoker cant seem to get a good read on his serves. The other and the more important is Stanislas Wawrinka who is probably the only one I have seen in the past close to a decade that can really outplay Djoker on hard courts and it is no fluke as Stan the man when he is on can ball bash and really move Djokovic side to side and put him on his heels

But hey maybe its Medvedev's day just like when Tsonga beat Federer in Wimbledon. Fed didnt play bad at all. Tsonga just played out of his damn mind and played like he was the GOAT the final 3 sets....similar to Marin Cilic in 2014 US Open. Nobody would have beaten the Tsonga that played in Wimbledon that day and even had Nishikori lost to Djokovic in the semis, that Marin Cilic is probably the only Cilic where I know for damn certain Djokovic would have lost. Watching that Cilic was like watching Safin reach his peak level....something even prime Federer couldnt handle without being at his absolute best.

Del Potro at his best was like that. Dude had a rocket first serve and that forehand, good Lord.

Djokovic just put the wood to Medvedev. A comprehensive domination. He had two momentary lapses of concentration, really, but otherwise he clearly looked like the far better player. He broke early and had a 3-0 lead, had a lapse to get broken back, but won the last two games of the first set to win 7-5. After another lapse to get broken in the opening game of the 2nd, he broke back immediately and since then, it's been a clinic from Novak. He's moving out of this world, and had a laser focus (aside from the two lapses) from the very first ball. And his serve has been a thing of beauty to watch tonight. Just a perfect rhythm, ball toss, extension, and follow through to his target, not off balance at all.

Vintage Djokovic. 7-5, 6-2, 6-2. Getting closer to GOAT status. After that whole debate!

All too easy for Novak!

Novak on Rod Laver and Nadal on Philippe Chatrier are about as close as you get to a guarantee in Tennis

Hopefully the USO 2020 doesn't become his biggest "what if" when all is said and done.

Right now I certainly rate Novak the best of the big 3, but it's just awesome we've been able to watch these three play at the same time. It'll never happen again in our lifetimes.
