All of us Cubs fans loved the guy. He was on Chicago radio quite often back in the day, talking to Harry in the booth when the Dodgers were at Wrigley and he loved him some Connie's pizza.

RIP legend.

Not sure if I have said this on this forum before, but I met him once in 1998, when he was interim GM of the Dodgers. It was as I was boarding a plane. He was very cordial, and then perked up a bit when I mentioned that I was also Italian. We had a brief conversation about the Dodgers and he was nice enough to sign a piece of paper for me, in which he wrote "to a great Italian." I've heard that he was always gracious with people in terms of signing autographs and posing for pictures.

A true Dodger icon and legend. May he rest in peace.

Had a horrible record as a Dodger pitcher, outstanding record as a Dodger manager. RIP

How did they get all that recorded? No way a manager could get away with talking like that today, with the high quality camera's we have now and the pussyification of pro athletes now.

Just read the news while combing Twitter. I’m a born and raised LA kid so he’s one of those folks it seems like I grew up with.

RIP to a Los Angeles sports legend.

When I was in junior high school, he came to our PE class. He did't use foul language, but even at that young age it was easy to see he was a salty MFer and it was fun to see an adult treat kids as peers. The quote I remember from that day was when he said, "Baseball is the only job where if you get it right 3 out of 10 times, you're doing fine."

That tape with all the cussing bleeped out was played on sportstalk radio for years back in the day. Baseball and LA lost a unique one today. Thanks for the memories Tommy.
