In honor of George Carlin's death (he hated the term passing), who do you rank as the all-time great comics. For me, in no particular order:

Carlin
Cosby
Bruce
Pryor

Of late, I enjoy Bill Maher and Louis Black (although he's really starting to get a bit overexposed)

Thoughts?

The best stand up I've seen in my life has to be Eddie Murphy's Raw.

Grocho didn't do standup, but he was quick, and could he deliver a line.

Cosby I loved as a kid, like 50 years ago, but his stuff didn't age well.

Carlin was funny from the start but as he transitioned towards satire I was disappointed at first--maybe me. Then he honed it in and became one of the best ever.

Robin Williams has to have the quickest mind of any comedian ever. He was truly one of a kind.

Jim Carrey is a close second.

Woody Allen could do standup and deliver a line with the best.

Dave Chappelle is probably the best going today. He is consistently good.

Ricky Gervais is my kind of humor.

So is Jim Jefferies--watch his routine on guns--epic.

Kat Williams is right there as well.

Rodney Dangerfield had me laughing harder than I've ever laughed in my life--I probably missed half of his show.

For a time, Sam Kinison was must see.

So was Eddie Murphy, think Delirious, but he was way beyond PC.

Then there is the god of comedy, Richard Prior. He could make me laugh and cry at the same time. His insight into the human condition with his ability to tell a story is second to none.

I also like Jack Benny, Steve Martin, Joan Rivers, Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, Steven Wright and many more.

Dave Chappelle's standup before his long break was the funniest of my lifetime.
