Good test for the defense. Holding the Mavs to 115 is not too bad, but the Lakers know they can be better.

Portland looked really good against Houston the other night, but there's no way CJ goes off like that again.

I’d rest Bron, but play AD. Maybe rest Caruso too

Schroder/Cook (if not Caruso)
KCP/THT
Kuz/Wes
AD/Morris
Gasol/Trezz

Schroder/KCP/THT/Wes gonna be super important in slowing down Dame/CJ. Will be interesting to see the Gasol/Nurkic battle, too

This is an interesting game. KCP/Caruso handled Lillard/McCollum pretty well in the playoffs, but it took a lot of funneling, team defense, and athleticism from our bigs to make that happen too, basically 5 guys on the floor who knew exactly what they were doing, every possession. Now we have Schroeder, THT, and Matthews to throw in the mix, new to the team but with capabilities. Harrell should be a plus. Marc - hard to tell, he's not mobile but it's evident he's smart.

I hope LBJ/AD don't have to extend themselves and can heal up. Kuz is vital to that, and I hope he continues his very solid play and gets a ton of minutes. And I hope he's up to swatting Lillard at least once this game.

Really looking forward to seeing how Gasol handles this challenge, against not just penetrating guards but a quality big that Portland is going to throw at him, now that he's starting to learn his teammates' tendencies and Vogel's system.

No repetitive nightmare of Lillard scoring 40 and Portland ekeing out a win at Staples. I've seen that movie a few times already and I'm tired of it.

I’d sit both AD and Lebron. Calf strains can lead to bigger issues with AD and Lebron shouldn’t be playing back to backs anyways IMO, especially with a sprained ankle.

The blazers will let their guard down with both those guys out and you just slide up Kuz and THT.

Bastards didn't give us AT Brooklyn this year (yet, at least). We gotta wait til a Feb home game to go to Z. No hardcore rusty facade of Barkley's Center, no streetwise swaggery gray floor. The HELL we playin at DET and CLE for? Two ready-made yawners. We should get Brooklyn, so we can truly shout...

"NOOOOO!....SLEEEEEP.....TIL BROOKLYYYYYYN!!!!1..."

I'm OK with resting/ sitting LeBron, AD, and Caruso tonight. 2nd night of back-to-back, only Week 1 - no urgency to rush them back. PLUS, it's a good way to get added minutes for Gasol and Matthews and help them get more unlocked and in regular-season speed. Gotta play the long game.

PLUS - Rob built exactly the kind of roster than can compete in a rainy-day rest-night game. Even if the 3 sit out, geez louise, look who we still have left.

C - Gasol, Trez
PF - Kuz, Kieff
SF - Matthews, Dudley, McKinnie
SG - KCP, THT
PG - Shroo, Cook

Not saying these guys would get us to the Finals without LBJ & AD & Caruso, but they'll DEFINITELY get you more than 27 points in the 1st freaking half.

2nd a game of a back-to-back without Lebron. Portland is rested and has played one less game than us. It's going to be a challenge.

Agreed. Load manage this one. Tough to win anyway as a back to back against the league’s best backcourt and top three MVP candidate Lilliard.

FYI:

No Carmelo Anthony or Nassir Little tonight for Portland (league’s health and safety protocols), Zach Collins is out w/ an ankle fracture.

CARUGOAT OUT - REASON IS CONCERNING

Per Trudell

Frank Vogel said that Alex Caruso will not play tonight due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

He has been exposed?

Well if you are going to be out due to Covid exposure, it might as well be at the same time that you are recovering from a hand injury.

A lot more information in the injury thread but they can never elaborate when it’s Covid which is pretty much a tell that it has something to do with Covid. But they did say that no one else on the team from staff to coaches to players is involved in this protocol as of right now. So for right now it’s just Alex which is you know good at least.
