Just watched the doc on Pete Souza, the official White House photographer for Obama (and one of them during Reagan). Just an unexpectedly amazing film.

Netflix: "We are the Champions".

A series about various oddball competitions and the people who participate.

The first episode is about the Cooper's Hill Cheese-Roll Race, which if you aren't aware is where a bunch of manics run down an insanely steep hill in pursuit of a roll of cheese, is magnificent.

The new HBO doc on DB Cooper is quite good.

Would love for you to explain to me how anyone of these would be considered propaganda? If you are not a fan of Jordan Peterson, there is representation of multiple voices that do not like Jordan Peterson. Created Equal is Thomas telling his story from his perspective.....it literally says it right in the full title "in his own words". Uncle Tom is black conservatives telling their individual stories. The only title I listed that could meet the basic requirements of being evaluated as propaganda would be No Safe Spaces....but I would challenge anyone to make the case that its portrayal is not accurate. Maybe next time, just go with the truth....you dislike the films because they do not fit into the reality you prefer, therefore your label of "propaganda" serves as an all inclusive basket.

Sure, a list containing a sympathetic look at a pseudo intellectual hack who made his bones with conservatives (mostly privileged white males) selling the idea that identity politics is the people fighting the actual identity politics (the old “racists aren’t the problem, it’s the people claiming racism” trope writ larger), a tawdry use of black conservatives to fight the idea of institutional racism as a concept, a virtually self-made paen to the king of such black conservatives, and a film decrying liberal cancel culture depriving good conservative bigots of their privileged right to unaccountable and unanswered speech, yeah, there’s no propaganda theme there.

Sadly, Monty gave you the attention you were seeking with that list, and the opportunity to go into your routine. Feel free to take it up in the politics thread, where you will get all the discussion of it you can handle.

Haha. Cackling good over here. Hahaaa sh. That got me good. Both that retort and adkindo's true to form choices, there. Lmao.

To Omar's point, you know adkindo was goin, "Pleeeease ask me about my choices, pleeease ask me about my choices!" He just happened to watch all of those in a row by sheer coincidence, not because he heard about them from NRA-TV.

Macho: The Hector Camacho Story

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13357738/

I think Camacho is one of the boxers that history has not properly appreciated. His real shine took place kind of right before Tyson took over the world and many people my age (early 40's) and younger do not often recognize the level of fighter that Camacho was in his prime years. Quick, power, could take a punch....was the complete package. I learned a lot about him from friends when I moved to Florida in high school where many of my Puerto Rican friends admired him and always tried to make sure he received credit for his greatness.

Camacho was always a complex figure, his flamboyance overshadowing a great boxer, and his sizzle belying the fact that he wasn’t a big puncher.

Saw the Belushi one on SHO yesterday. I wanted to see it out of interest, but the died young from coke/heroin story...you seen one, you've basically seen em all. But that's not why I wanted to see it because I knew he OD'd from a speedball at Chateau Marmont in 82 and they didn't dwell on the specifics of that scene either. I wanted the early life stuff which it focused on and learned some things about his early SNL days. Knew Chevy Chase broke out earliest, but wasn't aware of Belushi struggling to become known in Chevy's "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not" atmosphere. I didn't know Neigbors was turned intentionally hokey by John Avildsen. Nor that John was smacked out during some scenes of Blues Bros, one of which they showed as evidence.

Come on, man.
Those are all pure Kool-Aid flicks along the lines of Plandemic, Hillary's America, and all of that brainlet-tier conservative stuff that Dinesh D'Souza and Kirk Cameron made.

This is coming from someone who was a Peterson fan for about a week, and who hates political over-correctness probably more than you do.

I just gotta peep that cupcake rewrite of Clarence Thomas' "high tech lynching for uppity blacks" as Thomas called it at the time. Was the pube on the soda can mentioned, adkindo? Was his broaching of the porn great Long Dong Silver to Anita mentioned? Because, if not, they really missed some key points. Did they focus on how mean Joe Biden was while Orrin Hatch who said that Ms. Hill was working with slick lawyers to discredit Thomas isn't brought up? Even CNN and MSNBC love to focus on Biden more than the Republicans during that affair, so I'd be shocked if Joe wasn't a major figure in this documentary-cough.

HBO. Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. If you go to HBO Max, it's on the featured section.

Ahh. That's the one. Thanks, Cuth. Jottin it down. I've seen so many Behind The Musics and band docus. I'd like to be at least a little bit surprised by any band's story at this point, but I'll give it an honest whirl.

There wasn’t too much hidden knowledge in the Bee Gees documentary, aside from me not knowing how many songs they wrote for others. The beauty of it was in watching the oldest and last living brother (they died in precisely the opposite order of their birth) and his wistfulness for their absence. And just watching the way they made music. Criminally underrated band because they blew up so big during disco. The live rendition of “run to me”, seeing their closeness and amazing harmony in real time, was especially touching, and it’s a great song.

I remember hearing their version of "You Don't Know What It's Like" when I was maybe late teens and I didn't know they had a catalogue before Sat Nite Fever (which I only saw in full a few years ago, surprised it was a good movie, but even dreck from the 70s is often good). I like a few of their songs, not a fan, per se, but I think I "get it" re: Bee Gees. I understand why they were uber popular, "How Deep Is Your Love?" was a good triple harmonic song from the broz. You'd think they were like The Commodores w/ Lionel as the main talent in the group, but as much as Barry Gibb had the looks compared to the other two, and that falsetto voice, they all contributed a lot to their songs. I just can't believe how Murica went Disco like that. I'd like to take that Doc Brown DeLorean to 77 to see if that was really real or if the media is conning anyone born past around 1973ish. Those collars and that polyester can't be real. And those afros. Anyway, I'll peep it. I'm more poignant and able-to-feel-touched-(soulwise) than I come off on LG. I'm not as dumb as I sound.

I was reading my Belushi post above and I forgot that, a few weeks ago in the wee hours, I had seen for the 2nd time the Richard Pryor docu called "Omit The Logic". It was most likely an HBO product (or SHO if not) that aired 1-2 yrs ago. It was very much like Belushi and any other person w/ substance addiction. If you can find that on YT or maybe if you have an On Demand button on your service, that's a good one. He had a ROUGH life. You watch that and don't begrudge him for self-medicating before they probably even had that term for it. This one did go in detail and discussed incidents like Richard lighting himself on fire and such. Very in-depth bio, but disturbing/sad. Like Belushi, not an upbeat one.

Robin actually had the best voice and all three did falsetto, fwiw. Justin Timberlake is in the documentary (not singing thankfully) and he hit the nail on the head when he said they could harmonize their voices into one voice, almost a chord, and that they could also use their voices for emphasis like a horn section. It turns out I like their stuff a lot more than I thought I did when I was a young punk. And yes, they were heavily influenced by soul and RnB, especially once they discovered the falsetto voice. The doc goes into that a bit.

It's called "Kingdom of Silence" and it's airing on Showtime.

It's presented as a series of interviews chronicling the change in his ideals about his country and how they led to him to become an exile and the enemy of the state.
