It’s good that Riley re-corrected his remarks, I blame the media, they are snakes who usually try to stir the pot, Riley would never do the the Lakers dirty, he will always bleed purple and gold.

Regardless of what was said, Riley has always been a sour grapes guy. Part of him being a high level competitor. Remember the press Congress when Lebron left and Riley started throwing a tantrum? _________________ “You have to dance beautifully in the box that you are comfortable dancing in.” - Kobe Bryant
Doing a great job at the Heat TBH. There's some beef between Lebron and Pat but that's between them, it's not really for us to judge, it's just we should know there'll be some bitterness between the two and that might leak into public comments every so often

Riley's sour grapes don't wash, as injuries play a part in championship runs and championship derailments. If the injuries to Bam and Dragic have to be measured, so do the injuries to other players (e.g., Giannis.) Heat would never have gotten past the Bucks otherwise. No excuses, Pat.
Interesting to see so many fans on this board triggered by the * comments and insult Riles (who helped us to 4 of our championships, thus we wouldn't have tied the Celtics without his past contributions), when I've seen those same fans say the exact same thing about the Spurs 1999 title or even the Celtics 2008 title (no Bynum, injured Ariza not all the way back). Very interesting indeed...
Eff Pat Riley. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

Pat Riley is overrated. Donald Duck had as much coaching experience as Pat on day one as a head coach in Inglewood. Riley probably underachieved in that job. He had a powerhouse to work with here. I'd have liked our chances better with a lot of other guys.

Riley is a guy that I'll always respect for helping to give us those four chips. He's a sour grapes guy, but I'll always have respect for him. He's done an insane job with the Heat organization over the past 25 years

Riley’s contributions to the Lakers would take up several chapters. Lebron will be a footnote. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Riles is a bigtime competitor so I forgive him for this lousy take. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Will only matter when he's dead. Right now LeBron is representing and playing for the Lakers, while Riles is the enemy. _________________ “Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

I remember Riles and Phil at the Chick funeral. Pat and Randy Pfund sat waaaaay back in the pews while Phil sat up front. I doubt Pat and Phil wanted to bump into each other forcing them to shake hands IF even that. I felt bad that Riles had to lurk in the background like that being such a good friend of Chick, but that happens when these Type A coaches run afoul of each other. Gotta game from 94/5 at MSG where they showed Harris talking to Pat near the entrance to the court and then Lakers' assistant coach Coop walks thru the curtain and Pat grabs him by the waist and pulls him in. Seemed different, Coop was a little hurried to go and as he walked off, Pat looked at him glowingly. He still had the affection of his Laker people then. Dunno how much of it is left after this long, but he did an interview for Spectrum Sports that they often rerun. Being a Laker for 20 years as a player, color commentator, assistant coach and HC, it was tough for him to return to The Forum. Here's a clip of his first return after his "release" in 91.

Not a footnote, but I agree w/ the sentiment, just not to those extremes. Brawn still has work to do, but he won the Lakers a chip. That's never forgotten in this city. LA loves a winner.
Vogel and crew did a good job. Feels unnatural for a non-Riles/PJ type of coach to get over the top here. Last happened in 80 w/ Westhead tho Riley and Bertka were assitants. It's a relief after the string of sht coaches we've had in recent years to know that it IS possible to win a title w/ the right players and a merely solid coach (at worst). Whereas Vogz stays in the background and isn't all animated and doesn't get Ts, Riles and his clothes and body type and slickback were a huge part of Showtime's imagery.
Someone said here (iirc) that we should've won MORE than 5 in the 80s. Competition was pretty tough back then and key injuries screwed the team in 1983 and 1989. In 84, they had to learn like the 2008 team did -- that they were too soft in their present state to beat the Celtics. They needed both of those offseasons to stew in anger for allowing themselves to get punked (39 point L in the 08 clincher). In 85, they adjusted and started to push back which nullified that strategy by the Cs.
Greg Kite's takedown of Worthy in air in the Baby Hook game was the sign of a desperate Boston team seeing if they could muck up the game like they did in 84. Lakers were impervious to that crap in 85/87. Only disappointing season we had was 81, but it's easy to get dumped in a 3 gm series. The 86 Rockets were on fire, scrubs included. That was their season and a legit beating. Winning 5 in the 80s was about the max given the circumstances and it's more than anyone else got. The 84 Finals is the only one they could've won and blew. Riles himself called that TO before the Henderson steal in Gm 2. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

It isn’t the Invitational title that makes Lebron a footnote, it is his first season here. Sitting out games, being detached from the team, things we never saw from greats like Magic, Kareem, Kobe and Shaq. The guy simply didn’t care, he wasn’t into being a Laker. That season flipped my opinion of him. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
