That would be relevant if AD and Giannis played with the exact same teammates. Since they didn't it's apples to oranges. |
More importantly one team had to go through GS, the other didn't. |
Yeah. It's just lazy thinking and false equivalencies. Talking for the sake of talking that doesn't say anything. |

U think Giannis is better than AD, VLF? I think AD has proven he has a legit claim to be called best player in league with the bubble play |
I wouldn’t limit it to an invitational, looking at the season I think that Giannis was the best player this past season. |
bro! the bubble is probably the hardest ring ever, no homecourt advantage, weeds out psychologically weak players... anyway, I'm good with people prefering Giannis, I like AD more, he's playing like Kobe |

I guess if you want to ignore leadership, which I won’t. |
Was it Giannis’ leadership that led to these massive choke jobs or his inability to shoot the basketball?
I’m still trying to figure out how 2 time back to back MVP allowed this to happen with a supporting cast that locked up regular season 1 seeds in successive years?
I mean a whole lot of attention has been paid to the epic choke job of the Clippers and rightly so but at least they got to a 3-1 lead to blow it. Bucks weren’t even that close. I think Giannis has been pretty lucky to have escaped responsibility for this fiasco. |

Kuzma, #28 plus DG/Bradley/McGee expirings might be financially enticing, Lakers basically shutting ourself from 2021 sweepstakes |
TBH I would rather have CP3 over Giannis we already have something better than him and it's AD3 |
Ok, we're all entitled to our own opinion, I get that...But some opinions do just need to be ridiculed...like yours.
I'm not sure which opinion is worse...that AD3 is better than Giannis or that you'd prefer CP3 over Giannis. Both are stoooopid mate.
Ok, carry on. |
Wait what?
You know you are on Lakers board right?
Giannis game has a lot of deficiencies. He almost got swept out of the second round!!
Whatever bloated regular season numbers he put up it’s far from crazy to say AD is the better player. I would pick him over Giannis to start a franchise.
And he would be an awkward fit on this team. Of course Giannis is the better player over CP3 but Chris Paul is the better fit.
Put it this way ... a core of CP3, Lebron, and AD still beats Giannis on the Heat with Jimmy or the Mavs with Luka and it ain’t all that close. |
Look, I love me some AD... but I guaran-(bleep)-ty that every single GM in the league, including Pelinka would start their franchise with Giannis. And any fan suggesting they'd do otherwise is just an ill-informed homer.
With regards to fit. HAHAHA.. yes, I guess.... but... you don't fit Giannis in a team, you fit a team around him! Giannis IS THE FIT! HE FITS ON EVERY TEAM! PERIOD!
Put it this way....CP3, Lebron and AD is definitely an upgrade over this years Lakers team, but it certainly WOULD NOT be the same level of upgrade as Giannis to the Heat or Mavs !!! Both those teams would actually close the lead (if not surpass) on the Lakers even with CP3.
Look, I get it, fans tend to overvalue their own team's players, and undervalue everyone else...but come... let's not get silly.... LG is better than that! |
I guess. I mean all I know is he got sent home in the second round back to back years. First by Kawhi and then by Jimmy Buckets and this year was just embarrassing. They had to play super hard to avoid getting swept.
It would help if he could I don’t know shoot the ball or something. Chris Paul on this team next year takes any team in the league.
And after? I don’t care where Giannis goes or who he plays with I think we get Bradley Beal as a free agent in 2022 and even with 38 yr old Bron we can take anyone in the league. I like AD’s game over Giannis. |
And an AD-led team made the second round once. |
Could you remind me when an AD led team had the league’s best record and number 1 seed? I think Giannis had a little more help than AD on those Pelicans teams. |
Good points, AD never had the best record or #1 seed. Some of those Pelican teams were talented enough to win a playoff series or two but didn’t. Their coaching was never good but AD’s missing games was a significant factor. At this point he is a top 5 player in the league but he hasn’t shown that he can lead a team while Giannis has. That is why I have Giannis rated higher. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

Yup, when you have nothing to say, you can always fall back on criticizing someone's "Leadership." That always a favorite number of lazy-thinking posters. But, hey, you pooped out another post to add to your count, so that's a victory for you.

Nice out of the box thinking in renouncing our players’ rights (and their cap holds) and using cap space to absorb Cp3 or any other player. Those player rights come right back to us as long as we still have cap space and don’t breach past 100k of the cap (ie 109.1m) in resigning them using those rights again. And unfortunately we wound t have about 33m in space to regain AD’s bird rights to offer him his true max back.
Another thing to consider though, in gaining cap space and using it, we lose the non taxpayer MLE. Instead we are left with only the room exception which is about half of what the MLE would have given us (ie 4.7m vs 9.4m).
So here is how it would look if we renounced every player that opted out (and their cap holds) and used cap space to trade for Cp3:
Bron 39.2m
Green 15.4m
Kuz 3.6m
AC 2.8m
THT 1.5m
#28 cap hold 900k
Cook (guaranteed portion of contract) 1m
Dead money Deng (ie DMD) 5m
6 incomplete roster charges 5.4m
= 32.2m in cap space
So let’s say we guarantee the rest of Cook’s 3m deal and use it towards the 33m aggregated minimum to make a legal trade, then a package of Green/Kuz/Cook#28/2027 1st/future pick swaps and 2nd rounders will aggravate to about 22m and we’d have to use about 11m in cap space, leaving us with a cap sheet of
Bron 39.2m
Cp4 41.4m
AC 2.8m
THT 1.5m
DMD 5m
8 incomplete roster charges 7.2m
= about 12m in cap space
So even if we included AC and THT in other outgoing deals and were just left with Bron and Cp3 as the only players on the roster among dead cap and roster charges, we still wouldn’t have enough cap room to regain AD’s bird rights to offer him his max. Also we would only be left with the room exception instead of the ntpMLE.
So I love to see all the creative ideas here, but unfortunately operating as a cap strapped team is more beneficial to us this offseason instead of being a cap having team.
Btw, hope others correct any of my numbers if erroneous. |

It says there that Morris' cap hold is 3.3M. How much can we offer him without using the MLE? |
We don't have any of his rights. So unless we use cap space or an exception, all we can offer him is the veteran's minimum. |
So the webpage is incorrect? Because it does not make any sense to have cap hold of no rights. |

You doing this schtick again? Completely ignoring teammates, coaching, league competition at the time, injuries, etc?
Lets see....Kobe didn't make the second round without Shaq or Pau ever.
Kareem on the Lakers sans Magic only made the second round twice, with a complete miss of the playoffs and a first round exit the other two years.
I don't believe Jordan ever made it to the second round without Pippen.
I could keep doing this exercise, but I doubt I will disabuse you of the notion that team failure is solely a reflection of one player. Lets imagine, for a moment, a world where the lottery balls bounced a little differently in 2012 and the first pick fell to the Warriors. Then the Warriors team up Curry and Thompson with Davis. Then Davis has a very different career arc and we aren't having this discussion.
So yeah, big surprise a non-ball handling big with mediocre coaching, mediocre teammates and lousy ownership underachieved. |

How is Giannis a leader when he's not even defending the other team's best player
AD3 >>>>> Giannis, don't @ me

What do you do, trade Anthony Davis? Trade Lebron?
He is still owed $85 million for TWO years....lol... |
But we're not paying. LAL is.
You're telling me his contract is up basically when LeBron's is up in 2022 assuming he takes his player option?
So, set up LAL for 2022 FA?
Hell, just to appease LeBron, I wouldn't be surprised if they made "team best friends" for 2 seasons alongside AD, and even included so X-number blanket check (to the limit) as part of a trade. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Lakers aren’t getting CP3 because they can’t afford him.
Lakers aren’t trading 6 players for him.
Just not happening.
Also, CP3 is NOT getting a buyout
So, let’s move on from this pipe. |

I'm 100% banking on the idea of LAL trades for CP3, LeBron and CP3 would be off the books by 2022, and I don't want rookie contracts getting in the way of potential free agent options.

Giving up THT for cp3 would be very upsetting for me. I think THT can be a borderline allstar. Kinda of like Bryon Scott type of production. |
