I've decided to mark this momentous occasion when both Liverpool and ManUtd concede 6+ goals on the same day to start this thread. Crazy times call for crazy scorelines...

I'm very pleased that for once it wasn't Arsenal getting the battering

The Liverpool one was just plain crazy, cannot explain how it happened

Adrian is the new Karius...

As for us, Maguire's head is still in Mykonos.

European Super League anyone?

I guess $6 billion from JP Morgan is hard to turn down.

Another money-grabbing ploy. I don't think it'll come to pass, but it's a big two-fingered salute to UEFA.

Hard to disagree with anything Gaz says here: Gary Neville's verdict

Don't quite understand why Tottenham and Arsenal think they deserve to be part of the "Big" six English clubs.

This is pathetic. A bunch of mediocre teams with little or no history of European success (such as Arsenal, Tottenham, Man City, Atletico Madrid) trying to force their way just because they have money.

It's a shame that huge teams like Man Utd, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Inter agreed with this (bleep).

I completely agree with what Gary Neville said.

This I agree with. Rubbish.

It's not about history or past success in European competitions, it's about having a global brand. Arsenal and Tottenham have lots of fans, even outside of England.

The TV money for this new league will be enormous. People will tune in and watch, even those that say they hate the idea. Bayern and PSG will eventually join, too. It's just too much money to say no.

I'd agree with you on Arsenal, but Tottenham are perennial losers. That's their charm.

The Chicago Cubs created an entire identity about losing. So it works sometimes.

I prefer to stick with tradition in sports, but it doesn't always work out that way in the modern world.

I hope it works out how you football diehards wish it to.

Obviously it is about money, but it is about European success too. You can't have one without the other. Those teams can't build a global brand if they're not consistently qualifying to the UCL.

See Arsenal, 3 straight years not getting in. And possibly not getting in again this year.
They want to force their presence when they can't do it consistently in the field.

The idea of having 15 clubs always in, regardless of anything else, is pathetic. It goes against everything that I believe is great about football.

Juventus have been eliminated 3 years straight by Ajax, Lyon and Porto GTFO with your global brand bullsh*t. The games are what matter.

What you believe is great about football is resulting in a financial catastrophe for big and small clubs.

Juventus and Arsenal are in because the other clubs that are in want them to be in. That's the whole point of a league where the clubs want to organize themselves, as opposed to being organized by UEFA or facing relegation. So yes, global brands matter. There is a reason why Arsenal is in and not Leicester, because no one outside of Leicester cares about Leicester, or Ajax or Lyon or Porto. The latter even won a UCL pretty recently, and no one cares about that team outside of Portugal.

And it's not about creating some egalitarian league where everybody is equally strong. Arsenal might suck every year in the Super League, but the other teams clearly wanted them to be included.

The biggest teams - in terms of global appeal - are losing hundreds of millions of dollars due to the pandemic, and those teams have decided that this is the only way for them to save themselves, as opposed to being stuck with UEFA. And if it comes down to watching Dortmund vs Brugge in the CL or Barcelona vs United in the Super League, you will watch the latter.

With that said, the 12 teams are apparently meeting tonight to disband the whole thing.

I guess the backlash was too strong.

Let's see what the next two years bring in terms of the financial situation of these big clubs. If a bunch of them go bankrupt, their fears were real.

Florentino Perez needs to resign now. And I'm a big fan of him.

Well that didn't last long!

Just my opinion...and I don't think it will happen, but I hope they make some improvements to the champions league. I think its too watered down. Maybe get rid of the group stage and make it all knock out rounds.

Then review the whole structure. More rigid financial fair play, salary and transfer cap, etc.
The sport and the competition aren't the ones who must suffer.

Watching Real Madrid x Man City 20 times a year isn't the solution to anything.

I'm just glad that this whole BS didn't survive for more than 24 hours.

And you expect UEFA to change that entire structure? The whole point of the Super League was that UEFA wasn't changing anything and making things worse.

It's one thing to be against the SL, it's another to exaggerate that Real Madrid would play Man City 20 times a year.

The reason UEFA was against this wasn't because of how many teams played in it, or even that teams could not be relegated, it's because UEFA would lose control and all these teams would make enormous amounts of money and UEFA would get nothing.

Here's a prediction: something like the Super League will be created eventually and it'll be created by UEFA, and all those idiot Liverpool fans that gathered in front of Anfield will be suddenly for it.

Man United - Liverpool match postponed due to protests.
Hopefully this will lead in the right direction for football operations both at club/league levels.

Seeing Eriksen go down on the field and have CPR performed on him was scary. I really thought he might not live through it, very happy he is alive and on the road to recovery.

My team in the Euro 2020 is Czech, rooting for them to shock the world and make a run.

France is just lethal on the counter-attack with certain players in the open field, especially Mbappe, of course. Even though Germany put in the own goal, I thought France had the game going the way it wanted.

Looking forward to Italy tomorrow.

Never been a Crisitiano Ronaldo fan (more of a Messi guy), but these are impressive achievements: 5th Euro championships (his first one was in 2004) and all-time Euro top scorer.
