In No Out is better than most sit down restaurant burgers in my opinion
If you’re eating a burger at a restaurant then you’ve failed. If a burger exists at a restaurant then they’ve failed.
Not even remotely true.
There are plenty of genuinely good and creative restaurants who have a style and menu that is more targeted to high quality "comfort" food without being an upscale Chilis.
The idea that because a restaurant offers a burger as one of the items on its menu means it has failed as a restaurant is as ridiculous as claiming an In N Out burger is better than just about anything else. I can think of several really good restaurants I have been to over the year who have burgers on their menu (and I don't mean on a kid's menu).
Now, will I go into a nice restaurant with an interesting and diverse menu and order a burger on my first visit? No. But there are certainly places with a solid and quality menu where I will try their burger after a few visits if the mood suits. To say that means I have failed as a diner or they have failed as a restaurant is pompous snobbery.
I’m glad you like them! I am sure there are exceptions to the rule, though I’ve yet to find one.
I know, you're way too cool and hip for that. You'd never want to "fail" by trying a burger in a restaurant.
Got a recommendation? Again, to me they’re a failure at a conceptual level. Sort of like going to McDonald’s for their seafood. Like I said, I’m sure there are exceptions. _________________ 14-5-3-12

Not an accurate description his commentary on In N Out and you have know he and I far too long to not know that the second part is baseless. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

There are plenty of them. But I wouldn't expect someone who views the act of eating a burger in a restaurant as an act of failure and thinks that a grease cook flipping burgers is making tastier fare than a chef in restaurant who is an alleged failure to A) have the ability to enjoy the burger that was suggested or B) be willing to admit it if he did.
So why waste my time and yours? _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Ok so I’m a lost cause but maybe give a recommendation for those that aren’t? _________________ 14-5-3-12

Yeah, not much you can do about hipsters like ocho.
But to address his request for those who are interested, here are some really good burgers at restaurants (that aren't burger centric) that I have had:
Stalking Horse has a solid Wagyu burger.
Belcampo is a great butchery burger
The Smokehouse is classic old school steakhouse burger
Hinoki and the Bird has one that has all kinds of tasty garniches
Preux & Proper
Petit Trois
Love and Salt in Manhattan Beach
Connie and Ted's is one of the few seafood restaurant's that has a solid burger
Animal has an amazing one that's a blend of various meats.
I haven't had one, but I hear Egg Slut's burger is really good.
If we get into gastro pubs, the list grows immensely.
But I would never suggest that anyone engage in the failure that is a burger in a restaurant. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Now was that so hard?
On this list I’ve only had the Petit Trois burger and the Belcampo. Petit Trois in general is a letdown (and that includes the burger) which is unfortunate because Trois Mec next door had a claim on the best restaurant in LA before its tragic closing. Belcampo is decent but not really a sit down restaurant burger. Can’t speak to the others but I will revisit my original point when talking about Connie and Ted’s, Hinoki, and Animal. If you’re getting the burger there a mistake has been made. _________________ 14-5-3-12

What’s so nice about this post is that I haven’t been to any of those places and I trust your word on the quality of the burgers.. Thanks DMR.

Restaurant burgers are not for me. They’re typically way too thick, have some monstrosity for a bun (thankfully the brioche trend seems to be coming to a welcome end) and have excessive ingredients. Often a weird cheese. Stripped of their decadence. They’re for people who play golf.
If you don’t like golf maybe you should just not play it instead of obsessively and judgmentally posting your hate of it? _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

I don’t believe that is an accurate assessment. Can probably count on one hand the times I’ve posted about golf. But it’s true I don’t play it and I’m very happy with that decision. _________________ 14-5-3-12

I have a pretty low number of conversations that I’ve posted about in n out too, which is the general point. Asking people not to be snobbish or hateful about stuff they don’t like (in a thread where it is brought up as part of the topic) while putting in your own jab (because you and mule only recently discussed it and you thought it was a vicious burn I guess) out of thin air is the irony I was talking about. It’s also a pretty strong case of projection. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Strongly disagree with your assessment of your post history. I think you’ve gone on the In N Out tirade in every thread on the subject I can remember, including the claims of cult mentality to anyone that dares to enjoy it (which I have not done about golf, btw). As for my golf jab in this thread it was truly unrelated to any previous conversation on the matter. I admittedly have no data on the correlation between fancy burgers and golf. Merely a hunch. _________________ 14-5-3-12

Currently sitting in the most ridiculous in n out line right now. There are probably 25 cars here. I turned the corner pulled forward and realized they split the line in 3. I’m trapped!! Couldn't leave if I wanted (which I do). _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

Food was pretty meh.

There are always those local spots, The Habit used to be one around here. We have Marshall’s Bodacious BBQ who sell a really good burger made out of tri tip. Years ago on the way to a Cardinals game my buddy and I stopped at a bar for a beer. We decided to eat and I had one of the best burgers ever. When I travel for work I learned to ask the locals. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Lol enjoy. For future reference, I’m also not a fan of dog poo, seven eleven cheese sauce, or road kill. That should get you through to the weekend. _________________ “We must always take sides. The one by UCI had about 40-50 cars in line at the beginning of the lockdown. The parking lot had to have barriers placed in order for cars to queue up in a line. Never seen anything like it. _________________ KOBE
^Couldn’t believe the number of barriers they had in the parking lot either when I went to make a pick up at Amazon in that same plaza. For the amount time spent waiting in that queue, one could probably queue up at the next closest one in Tustin and get the food sooner.
It seems Chick-Fil-A’s have their drive-thru game down pat, they can easily process 40 cars and keep the line moving. Not crazy about the food or their donations (that’s for another thread).
