Travis Bicklesque. Strong choice. |
Setting: Dinner date from hell, when I realized that the girl I asked out was exceptionally pretentious. Instead of dropping her off, I pulled into a downtown parking lot.
Me: Better put your purse under the seat and lock the door, this is a shady part of town.
Her: Where are we going?
Me: It's a surprise.
After walking to the Pussycat ticket booth...
Her: I'M NOT GOING IN THERE!
Me: It's ok, you can wait for me out here.

Speaking of the '80's, there's a great Doc on HBOMAX called:
Class Action Park - Trailer
It's about a notoriously dangerous thrill park that was hugely popular in the New York area in the '80's and it is real reminder of the mindset of us teens back then. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

ColecoVision was great. Spent half of the decade in college, memories are real blurry. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

We had
Atari 2600
Nintendo Entertainment System. I’ll never forget when a friend got one first right when it came out. It was mind blowing. It was about 6 months later that I got one.
Then I also got a Commodore 64 which I played a bunch of games on |

This reminds me of all the neighborhood parks they made kid safe these days. Back in the days they had equipment that would be considered huge safety hazards today. Something like a roundabout or jungle gym you don't see much of anymore. |

NPZ I'm going to need your help on this one brother. There was a membership store that was off the 60. I want to say it was close to Chino or maybe even further east. I think there was more than just that store. Boy, I remember walking in that store in the mid 80s and walking into the electronics section. It was teh only place that had the full Nintendo setup with the Power Glove to boot. My mind was blown. I can't remember the name of it. I'm almost certain there was more than one.

There was a big ass membership store in Chino in the late 80s called Pace. There was also Price Club, which was further off towards San Berdoo area. You could be thinking of either. Or FedCo off the 60 FW (which was known in smaller form as GemCo before that). Now that I re-read you, I'll bet you mean FedCo. I bought Nintendo cartridges there before. It closed circa 94/5 and became a police compound or somethin. You went in a circular path from entrance all the way to the registers and there was a knife shop by the exit that sold Swiss Army knives etc. That FedCo had a lot of merch, it was a fun trek on a Sat afternoon. |
Yes Fedco!!! It was a membership store but not a warehouse.
Didn't PriceCo get bought out by Costco? _________________ KOBE |

Ooh, yeah as a kid we had Coleco and the Vectrex. That's the one good thing about having three older brothers that started working part time jobs at an early age. Gaming died off after that era until the NES came around. I got one a year or two after release. _________________ KOBE |

Fedco was definitely membership. I had a buddy whose family were members and I used to tag along with him to buy new fishing gear from their sporting goods department. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Oh yeah I know. I was just saying it wasn't structured like the huge warehouse membership stores. It felt like a normal store like a Kmart but way nicer. Their electronics section was awesome. _________________ KOBE |

Pioneer Chicken. We've had this thread before in the past. It wouldn't have taken much longer before someone else got Pioneer. They apparently might still exist in small numbers, but they were prev in the day. They had the spearhead fish patties which weren't bad as far as fried fish, but that also reminds me of H. Salt Fish n Chips, which I'm sure are low in numbers if they also still might exist in various places. I remember Carvel's ice cream cakes on bdays. That's one I wonder about, Carvel's. They and H. Salt had commercials on telly all the time. Some of the older crew prolly know what up on those. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

ON TV and/or SelectTV for Lakers home games.
Makes me really appreciate Chick Hearn, seemed everyone else’s family had OnTV/SelectTV — I had a worn-down AM transistor radio to pick up KLAC 570 and it was the greatest thing to hear him do the play-by-play.
Another 80s relic: IBM PC 5150 with an IBM RGB monitor which worked with the classic CGA graphics card. That came with 16K memory and a whopping 4 colors in 320x200 and 16 colors in 160x100. Kids don’t know how good they have it now. Cue all of the stories we heard about trekking 5 miles in the snow to school.
Btw, seeing those Wonder Woman 1984 commercials with that same RGB monitor doing full motion video at 4096+ colors was frustrating at best. |

I've always lived in San Diego, never in LA, but I don't like San Diego teams.
My dad and godfather got me into the Dodgers (about 1977), and my love of the Dodgers got me to start watching the Lakers, in about 1981. _________________ Garvey, Lopes, Cey, Russell |
