Oooh, how about defunct 80s stores (at least the ones that didn't make it much further than the early 90sJ.

Gemco

Federated Stereo - The commercials with Shadoe Stevens were the best.

KB Toys (doesn't fit my criteria but it was basically dead by the 90s)

Best Products - I remember getting those huge catalogs. I think this jump-started my consumerism. We were dirt poor back in the day and I know a lot of peeps front like they were dirt poor but I'm talking about knowing what powdered milk tastes like and the abomination that was government cheese (no, it doesn't slice...it crumbles). I would pore over those catalogs as a kid imaging what it'd be like to have some of the things in there. My little sister and I were the youngest in our clan of 9 siblings and we'd play a game where we'd turn the page and quickly point at the thing we wanted most. Yep lame. And thus a consumer whore was born.

NPZ I'm going to need your help on this one brother. There was a membership store that was off the 60. I want to say it was close to Chino or maybe even further east. I think there was more than just that store. Boy, I remember walking in that store in the mid 80s and walking into the electronics section. It was teh only place that had the full Nintendo setup with the Power Glove to boot. My mind was blown. I can't remember the name of it. I'm almost certain there was more than one.

B-Daltons and Waldenbooks - First summer job was at the B-Daltons at the Chino Town square. Damn, I can't remember if it was a Waldenbooks or not. Growing old sucks.

And it was awesome.

Haha at AYDS. That product was resurrected into collective consciousness only a few years ago on the internets. It was a vitamin/medicine chew to lose appetite. Probably the same drug as in Dexatrim pills. Still not as bad for human consumption as Dianetics.

New Coke gotta be in there. Cherry 7up was also a big one. Crystal Pepsi was 90s tho.

There was a big ass membership store in Chino in the late 80s called Pace. There was also Price Club, which was further off towards San Berdoo area. You could be thinking of either. Or FedCo off the 60 FW (which was known in smaller form as GemCo before that). Now that I re-read you, I'll bet you mean FedCo. I bought Nintendo cartridges there before. It closed circa 94/5 and became a police compound or somethin. You went in a circular path from entrance all the way to the registers and there was a knife shop by the exit that sold Swiss Army knives etc. That FedCo had a lot of merch, it was a fun trek on a Sat afternoon.

Thanks NPZ, that FedCo off Archibald and the 60 sure brought back some memories. Spent most of the time checking out the boom box display at the front of the store and/or the Atari set up elsewhere.

Same here JB, those BEST catalogs were a favorite. Once in a blue moon, we’d actually get to go inside one of their locations. There was one on Central and the 10 near the Montclair Plaza, for electronic items, they’d send your order up via a pneumatic tube and after a long wait, the item emerges from a chute on a conveyor belt.

I keep reading these lists posted like I’m Billy Joel singing “We Didn’t Start the Fire”. There’s another (late) 80s one for you.

These are video game systems we had as kids, my brother and me, right before and well into the 80's...

Atari 2600
Intellivision
ColecoVision
Nintendo NES

We weren't rich, but my father had a very good job working at a shipyard.

Lol at Wally George. SICK! SICK! SICK! His crowd was what the Jerry Springer format copied. Wally was Rebecca DeMornay's father, which was amazing if you look at Wally's visage. Also, Morton Downey, Jr. One of those dudes who were popular in the 80s and fizzled away at the start of the 90s.
