There is a reason OK Boomer caught on. Then again, OK Gen X and maybe even OK Gen Y (Millennials) works as well.

Heck, how about OK Americans?

Too many Americans have lost their way and with their lack of concern for others and posterity, I don't know if there is a beacon bright enough to guide them.

While many of us suggested we needed an FDR all-in approach to the coronavirus, Bob Woodward, while on on CNN with Anderson Cooper, also mentioned FDR regarding Trump's response. Since Trump was saying he knew how bad the virus was, but was playing it down, Woodward mentioned that two days after Pearl Harbor, FDR told the American people that the US involvement in WWII was going to be a mighty challenge like few Americans have ever seen. In other words, FDR did not play down to the American people what was in store for them, told them how tough it was going to be, and united the country into working machine like never before or since.

If a Trump-like creature had been president then . . .

I had a new Twitter follower out of the blue: Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. I had not been following him but I followed back. My last tweet before that had been to Eric Boehlert talking about Trump's town hall: "The voters at Trump's town hall tonight showed more chutzpah than 95% of press core."

NEW: Multiple White House staff have tested positive for COVID-19 today. The White House press pool was just informed, but Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is not releasing any further information.

This comes less than 24 hours after international leaders met with President Trump.

Not that I expected anything out of Kentucky, but it’s incredible to me considering what a piss poor excuse for a senator that Moscow Mitch is that he’s leading by that much. If he wins as it appears he’s poised to, dems taking the senate is an absolute must.

Israelis must be pleased. They were reported to be anxious to avoid exposing their delegation to the WH team.

I have relatives in KY. In addition to being extremely racist, they are also extremely misogynistic. Before McGrath had the primary challenge, she was polling much closer to Mitch. But she never got her numbers back up. Just gotta make sure he goes back to the minority.

Biden woos Puerto Ricans in Florida — and gives new hope to state Democrats

Quote:
Buoyed by promised ad buys, new hires and Joe Biden's visit on Tuesday to Kissimmee — home to a sizable Puerto Rican population — Florida Democrats are growing more confident of the party’s chances with Hispanic voters as Election Day approaches.

Quote:
For years, the political fight for Florida’s Hispanic vote has centered on South Florida, home to huge patchwork of Hispanic voters, including conservative-leaning Cubans, Venezuelans and Nicaraguans. That focus is starting to shift to Central Florida, where more than 1 million Democratic-leaning Puerto Ricans have become a powerful voting block that has helped offset conservative Cuban voters. Florida’s complex Hispanic electorate now makes up 17 percent of all registered voters.

“We are going to have a full-court press in the Central Florida region,” Biden campaign adviser Christian Ulvert said. “The Puerto Rican vote is critical, and the campaign is going to work hard to earn every one of their votes.”

Following Biden’s appearance Tuesday, big-name surrogates are expected to blanket the Orlando media market, a large and critical portion of the coveted Interstate 4 corridor, in the weeks leading up to Election Day.

Why Pennsylvania Could Decide The 2020 Election

Quote:
Right now, Pennsylvania looks like the single most important state of the 2020 election. According to FiveThirtyEight’s presidential forecast, Pennsylvania is by far the likeliest state to provide either President Trump or Joe Biden with the decisive vote in the Electoral College: It has a 31 percent chance of being the tipping-point state.1 (That’s what happens when you take one of the most evenly divided states in the union and give it 20 electoral votes.) In fact, Pennsylvania is so important that our model gives Trump an 84 percent chance of winning the presidency if he carries the state — and it gives Biden a 96 percent chance of winning if Pennsylvania goes blue.

Quote:
All told, Biden currently leads the FiveThirtyEight polling average in Pennsylvania by 4.9 points. Adjusting for demographics and the possibility of change over the next two months, our forecast projects that the Democrat will ultimately carry the Keystone State by 4.6 points. However, both numbers are closer than Biden’s lead nationally, implying that if the overall race tightens, Biden could fall victim to the same trends that made Pennsylvania so inhospitable for Clinton in 2016. In other words, it’s no coincidence that Biden’s 75 in 100 chance of winning Pennsylvania is nearly identical to his chance of winning the election: As goes Pennsylvania, so goes the Electoral College.

Biden leads PA by an aggregate of 4.5-5 percentage points and it's the "decisive state"...?

Cool.

Yeah, it looks like Wisconsin is safer than Pennsylvania at this point for Biden, which is not what most people thought going into the election.

If we're speaking purely practically. Florida's electoral votes are more important than Pennsylvania's.
Maybe part of 538's argument is that Pennsylvania is more reflective of the national electorate. And if Biden gets the turnout needed there it means he's probably getting the turnout he needs in other swing states. But IMO, if Biden wins Florida, he's DEFINITELY winning Pennsylvania.

Winning Florida definitely means winning Arizona and probably North Carolina. And when you add MI/WI/PA, it's a landslide.

I get tired of posting these in the "nothing matters" Trump era, but this is still wrong and disgusting and criminal. Trump belongs in jail.

Donald Trump accused of sexual assault by former model Amy Dorris

Quote:
A former model has come forward to accuse Donald Trump of sexually assaulting her at the US Open tennis tournament more than two decades ago, in an alleged incident that left her feeling “sick” and “violated”.

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Amy Dorris alleged that Trump accosted her outside the bathroom in his VIP box at the tournament in New York on 5 September 1997.

Dorris, who was 24 at the time, accuses Trump of forcing his tongue down her throat, assaulting her all over her body and holding her in a grip she was unable to escape from
.

Quote:
Dorris, who lives in Florida, provided the Guardian with evidence to support her account of her encounters with Trump, including her ticket to the US Open and six photos showing her with the real estate magnate over several days in New York. Trump was 51 at the time and married to his second wife, Marla Maples.

Her account was also corroborated by several people she confided in about the incident. They include a friend in New York and Dorris’s mother, both of whom she called immediately after the alleged incident, as well as a therapist and friends she spoke to in the years since. All said Dorris had shared with them details of the alleged incident that matched what she later told the Guardian.

Trump killed at least 100,000 Americans. This is not hyperbole. Prove me wrong.

USPS had a plan to send 5 facemasks to every home in America – but the White House killed it

Quote:
Back in April as coronavirus was exploding across the country, the U.S. Postal Service had a plan to send five reusable facemasks to every home across the country.

The White House killed the plan.

“USPS leaders drafted a news release announcing plans to distribute 650 million masks nationwide, enough to offer five face coverings to every American household,”

This is not what a Democracy looks like. You okay with this, Conservatives lurking this thread?

NYT: Barr Told Prosecutors to Consider Sedition Charges for Protest Violence. Attorney General William P. Barr was also said to have asked prosecutors to explore whether to bring charges against the mayor of Seattle for allowing a police-free protest zone.

Quote:
Attorney General William P. Barr told federal prosecutors in a call last week that they should consider charging rioters and others who had committed violent crimes at protests in recent months with sedition, according to two people familiar with the call.

The highly unusual suggestion to charge people with insurrection against lawful authority alarmed some on the call, which included U.S. attorneys around the country, said the people, who described Mr. Barr’s comments on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution.

They wanted to use "heat ray guns" on peaceful protesters. HOW MANY (bleep) TIMES DO THEY HAVE TO DO THIS (bleep) BEFORE PEOPLE REALIZE THEY WANT TO TURN THIS COUNTRY INTO TRUMP'S VERSION OF PUTIN-WORLD?

Washington Post: Federal officials stockpiled munitions, sought ‘heat ray’ device before clearing Lafayette Square, whistleblower says

Quote:
Hours before law enforcement forcibly cleared protesters from Lafayette Square in early June amid protests over the police killing of George Floyd, federal officials began to stockpile ammunition and seek devices that could emit deafening sounds and make anyone within range feel like their skin is on fire, according to an Army National Guard major who was there.

D.C. National Guard Maj. Adam D. DeMarco told lawmakers that defense officials were searching for crowd control technology deemed too unpredictable to use in war zones and had authorized the transfer of about 7,000 rounds of ammunition to the D.C. Armory as protests against police use of force and racial injustice roiled Washington.

In sworn testimony, shared this week with The Washington Post, DeMarco provided his account as part of an ongoing investigation into law enforcement and military officers’ use of force against D.C. protesters.

When will people who oppose Trump start turning up from mysterious poisonings? YOU KNOW HE WOULD DO IT IF HE COULD GET AWAY WITH IT. BARR IS THERE TO MAKE SURE HE GETS AWAY WITH IT.

Don't take it from me, take it from Trump's former Director of National Intelligence and former GOP senator:

NYT: What’s at Stake in This Election? The American Democratic Experiment - By Dan Coats

Quote:
We hear often that the November election is the most consequential in our lifetime. But the importance of the election is not just which candidate or which party wins. Voters also face the question of whether the American democratic experiment, one of the boldest political innovations in human history, will survive.

Our democracy’s enemies, foreign and domestic, want us to concede in advance that our voting systems are faulty or fraudulent; that sinister conspiracies have distorted the political will of the people; that our public discourse has been perverted by the news media and social networks riddled with prejudice, lies and ill will; that judicial institutions, law enforcement and even national security have been twisted, misused and misdirected to create anxiety and conflict, not justice and social peace.

If those are the results of this tumultuous election year, we are lost, no matter which candidate wins. No American, and certainly no American leader, should want such an outcome. Total destruction and sowing salt in the earth of American democracy is a catastrophe well beyond simple defeat and a poison for generations. An electoral victory on these terms would be no victory at all. The judgment of history, reflecting on the death of enlightened democracy, would be harsh.

Quote:
If we fail to take every conceivable effort to ensure the integrity of our election, the winners will not be Donald Trump or Joe Biden, Republicans or Democrats. The only winners will be Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Ali Khamenei. No one who supports a healthy democracy could want that.

Sadly, his suggestion of some bi-partisan commission of congressional leaders is doomed because the entire Republican party refuses to safeguard our elections -- because they think they benefit from the chaos, lies and propaganda. Only a blue wave at all levels of government can change our course away from fascism and back toward democracy.

So, Trump says the blue states had tremendous death rates.

The tri-state area and all of the New England area was hit particularly hard early in the pandemic, being hit by European travelers. Most have Democratic governors. If we looked at the death rates early on, I wouldn't be surprised if the Democratically run states had over twice the death rate rates as did the Republican run states for this reason.

But the Republican run states have caught up, not because of an influx of European travelers, but because most of these states continue to fight the science on covid and because the people refuse to comply with the recommendations from the medical and scientific communities.

Looking at the populations of states run by Democrats (178,019,716) vs. Republicans (137,502,722) we have 40,516,994 more people in states governed run by Democrats, so of course there should be more deaths as well.

Which there is. When looking at the deaths, the states run by Democrats (117,221) vs. Republicans (78,918) we have 38,303 more deaths in states governed run by Democrats.

As for the death rates, we can see the states run by Democrats (.000658472), versus the states run by Republicans (.000573938) also have a 14.7% greater death rate, though nothing like at the start of the pandemic.

Is there another factor to be considered, however? How about population density? It stands to reason, that, everything else being equal, states with people packed together would transmit and contract a highly contagious disease easier than states with people spread out.

Regarding population density, the states run by Democratic governors have a population density of 256 persons per square mile, while the states run by Republican governors have a population density of 147 persons per square mile, or 74% greater density.

Can one objectively reach a conclusion that based on death rates and population density, that states run by Democrats should be singled out as somehow having worse people or bad leadership?
