And I'm talking major degradation in performance.

That's so nice because it updates automatically too, even if you tell it not to.

Isn't this the case with every Windows update?

I installed Avast Cleanup Premium. I have a 6 yr old computer and it's as quick as a cat. Avast keeps it clean and quick. Do maintenance on your machine weekly. Clean your history, clean your system and disc, empty your junk. A computer has to read through files to get where you want to go. Keep your machine clean. The update didn't slow me. I also have CCleaner.

I suspend the update feature (in Windows 10)--it's good for about 35 days. 35 days later, I activate the update feature...only to suspend it, again, a few moments later. I haven't updated Windows in months.

I had to rollback, which ate up valuable time.

I hate how Microsoft uses us as their beta testers.

Thinking of installing Linux on old Windows laptop. Had some experience with Linux a long time ago as a user only. Any ideas what would be a good way to go?

You can install something like Ubuntu/Mint or Manjaro on a USB drive (depending on the favor of Linux you want -- Ubuntu and Mint are Debian-based, Manjaro is Arch-based), and boot into it and see how you like it. From there, you just install in the GUI. Installing modern linux is super easy.

Do you know what build it is? My 3 systems are perfectly normal but they may not have updated yet.

Last build update I received was on Aug 21st. I just checked and there are no new updates. I'm currently running Windows 10 Home Build 19041.508.

Gaming has grown significantly on Linux the last couple of years, some even say gaming is now better on Linux than Windows... But I don't game a lot so I can't judge that.

Thanks for the link.

I just used the registry hack to stop any downloading or installation of updates unless I specifically tell my computer to do so.

On Windows 10 Pro, you can also disable automatic updates using the Registry in at least two different ways.

Very cool that it's easy. I was thinking of Mint too. Thanks a lot.
Any thoughts on the Dune trailer, DuncanIdaho?
