I had high hopes the Nets would compete for a ship next season with the return of KD and Kyrie. I don't think Steve is the coach to make that happen.

1) He has no head coaching experience in the NBA. I don't know of his having coaching experience at any level.

2) Does he have the wherewithal to deal with the egos of superstars? How will he gain the respect of the players?

3) He's learning with a team that needs an experienced head coach.

4) Does he have a system?

Too many unknowns.

I wish Steve well. He has a tough row to hoe.

Nets hire Steve Nash as next coach

Nash has a history with KD in GS, I would guess that Durant was strongly behind his hiring. Keep in mind that every head coach had a first hiring, recycling mediocre coaches is a worse decision.

OTHER:
Having been a good player doesn't necessarily translate into being a good coach.

Good luck to Nash, though.

Examples; Derek Fisher, Magic Johnson, Jerry West.

Having a good rapport with players doesn't translate into good coaching. Coaching is a profession that IMO should be started at the bottom and work your way up. Learn the ins and outs.

Steve has been given the talent, does he have the acumen to be a head coach?

Again I wish him well.

only time will tell...really, much will depend on him, the effort he puts into it, the preparation he had made to be a coach, etc. etc., and as always there will be an element of good or bad fortune that decides his success.

I would not run to the Casino to bet on his success....nor would I his failure.

He's in the East. I want him to succeed. Hope he stomps Boston. IMO if he does he'll most likely have a good, great career. IMO he'll be coaching 2 difficult personalities, KD and Kyrie. If Steve makes it to work he'll have my deepest respect. GO NETS. BEAT BOSTON

I am too. I hope he succeeds. Though I don't like how he used the Lakers.

Good for him - Every interview I've heard from him, I always thought he was very knowledgable about the game. Also, seems like a good guy.

I like this hire. Steve Nash is a two time mvp, a player who gets along with other people, and a man who understands offense. Plus, unlike some other great players who make terrible gm's or coaches, I don't view Nash as a great player due to any innate talent. He wasn't an athlete. Also, he was a late bloomer (which bodes to his work ethic and understanding of the game). I have some concerns about his defensive philosophies, but I am a fan of the hire. Also, whoever said to quit circulating mediocre coaches, I agree.

He has never coached before, not even as an assistant, and will enter this season with championship expectations. He’s got one moody star coming off an Achilles and another moody star who isn’t always easy to get along with and is always hurt. I wish Steve luck and I believe he’ll need it.

Hanging on knowing he wouldn't be able to play. He tied up a roster spot. IMO he should have retired, which finally did.

We're on the same page. I think the Nets should have hired a proven coach. The Lakers have one of the best on their coaching staff, Tyronn Lue

Good catch. True. My bad. My focus was we should have hired him instead of Vogel.

Tyron's a coach LBJ respects. I remember when he was coaching Cleveland, Bron interrupted his timeout instructions. Lue told him "I got this" and Bron sat down. I've seen him take over from Vogel during timeouts.

Steve's big trouble. He may not last the season. His superstars think he's a figurehead. They're not going to listen to him therefore he'll never have the ear of the team. Nets made a mistake hiring an inexperienced head coach.

Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving don't think the Nets need a traditional head coach

Steve got himself a 4 year deal as a zero experience coach. His bag is secured. But that is gonna be a rough job.

I'm beginning to think Durant is an A-HOLE too.

They both think they already won, same with clippers last summer. Don’t y’all love how our team is the one painted as Hollywood but turned out we the blue collar, humble and drama free one? Love it

Yes on both counts and it's gonna be fun to see these two numskulls fail and to see who they are gonna blame...

sun rises on east sets on west, sky is blue and Kyrie Irving will only play 2/3 of the season due to injury, those are the constants of our life.
