Would Melo would have been worse than Waiters or Smith who were bigger headaches?
I don't think Melo would be OK with sitting on the bench with 0 minutes like Smith; let alone not starting. _________________ ๐๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ #18!!!

No but Melo is still a way better player than both those guys combined... not sure if he would have been starting but I think he could have played pretty good minutes off the bench.

Personally, I dont agree at all for this specific team. We have Lebron, AD and Kuz at the forward spots and once the Playoffs start all 3 of those guys are going to obviously play team high minutes. Melo is not the kind of the player you just throw in for spot minutes or even limited minutes. He's a stereotypical volume shooter who needs the minutes to play like he is currently playing for the Blazers. It's great he has had a bit of a resurgence in the bubble but he was and still isn't a good fit for this team imo and even more so with how much Kuz has developed.
Besides the Rockets game and I believe one other somewhat bad game Waiters has actually looked better and better since the bubble started. I'm happy with him.
Sure. But he wanted to start. Are we bring AD or LBJ off the bench to help that?
If he was ok with being a 6th man scorer, sure. But he never was.
He's willing to come off the bench. He's earned his way into the starting lineup. He's also accepting any role given him.
I doubt he was ok with coming off the bench. Interesting how without a practice, Melo started his first game with the Blazers. It was part of what he wanted. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

I think he was willing to come off the bench for a contender. Also Blazers had no one to show for at SF/PF position and they needed a 3rd scorer bad. Not sure how Melo donโt fit here, imagine him receiving all those wide open shots from Bron/AD. Defensively his not that bad and you can hide him unlike Cook/Waiters.

Being LBJ's buddy, I'm sure Melo would have come to the team if he was ok with his role. But he had LBJ/AD ahead of him so I don't think it was an option for him. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Melo is playing 33mpg as a starter on the Blazers.
Reportedly he didn't want to be a bench player.
So are you booting LBJ or AD to make Melo a starter on the Lakers?
If he was ok with a 18-20mpg bench role, sure, it would have been done IMO as LBJ/Melo are close. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Heโs looking pretty good in Portland and we could have used another scorer.
Yes in shape team usa melo wouldchave been useful ...but if we ate looking back ...he wasn't that. He used quarantine to get in good shape. God bless him but hopes he bricks his 3s vs us but wish him well in future endeavors.
Yes they should have because he allows options for LBJ and Kuz for minutes.
With that being said, our depth is the concern I have for this playoff run. The rest may or may not have helped. We will see. But I still to this day feel like we should have done the following:
1) Sign D-Lo for 3rd scorer
2) Not sign a 9ppg player to $15m a season for two years
3) Not sign Rondo and instead take Alec B or Trey B
4) sign RHJ for defense (or Melo. One or the other but two offer totally different things)
5) sign WCS or Noel
Rotation:
PG: Avery B
SG: DLO
SF: Bron
PF: AD
C: WCS
Bench:
PG: Trey/Alec and Alex C
SG: KCP/Dion (if that roster spot situation still played out)
SF: RHJ/Kuz
PF: Kuz/Morris
C: Howard/McGee
No Cook, DG, Rondo, Dudley.
Look we are the #1 seed so not really to much to complain about. But would have liked to lock down players like WCS, DLO, RHJ and Trey or Alec for some depth for next season also. Plus some youth.
No one is answering how Melo gets his 33mpg on this team with LBJ/AD/Kuz already playing the same positions as him. That was the issue. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals

Yeah, Kuz already should be getting a good 6-8+ more minutes then he got in game 1.
Also, maybe it was just me but for the majority of this game I was hoping they would force it out of anyone else's hands and let Carmelo shoot until the end. He's def. not a reason the Blazers won tonight.
Duh. Would've been a no risk/high reward signing. I believe I was the first and only one advocating for him but good to see others can finally see Melo is hardly washed-up. Plus had we signed him, there's no way Portland makes the playoffs.
