Saw Rory twice back in the 70's! There was no one who put on a better show that him, he would come out in the blue denim jacket and just jam, and when he peeled it off an hour into the show, he was a sweaty mess, but neither show was less than 2-1/2 hours of just raw jamming and blazing guitar blues-rock...!

RIP Rory...

Taste (one of Rory’s musical outfits) were vastly underrated as a power trio. Up there with Cream and The Experience.

LOL, I just looked at my Master LP Excel File and I own Taste - On The Boards, gotta pull it out as I have no recollection on what it's like...

Another 3 piece Blues Oriented UK band was Love Sculpture (featuring Dave Edmunds)

Although this is not a blues number by any stretch of the imagination, but those of you into 60/70's guitar gods will be impressed (more so if you have never heard of it).

Check this clip out from 1969:

(Unfortunately the video shows drum & bass 90% of the time) But if you want to see Dave playing the same song, some 47 years later, check out this clip:

This sounds a bit like ol' Rimsky-Korsakov--Flight of the Bumble Bee.

That is so cool that you got a chance to see him live, I would have loved to see him play live!

I am getting deep into his catalog, he was amazing.

Something about these British/Irish guys doing their takes on the blues really speaks to me, I am listening to a lot of Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore and Peter Green these days....3 legends all gone way too soon, especially Rory and Gary passing away in their 40's.

I was incorrect. Gary Moore passed away in his 50s, but Rory in his 40s which is way too soon, he was something else!

In honor of Billy Friedkin's 85th bday, I'm linking to the greatest Clarence Carter jam ever featured in a movie:

Live From Don Kirshner's Rock Concert 1973 by Sly & the Family Stone

Oh lawd what a great band. Even if it's not the original incarnation, with Larry on bass. Sly was next level good.

I heard this for the first time last night--so I'm 25 years late. This was on Lucifer--a decent junk food show with typical comic book characters.

Here's some cool jazz fusion funk. Love this. The elements of classic jazz mix well with the retro fusion sound. And it feels fresh and not at all derivative.

I know there are a few people here who appreciate true musicianship in the music.

Well, there is a band out of Stockholm, Sweden that just put out an awesome new album. Don't worry about not understanding the language, as the songs are all instrumental (sorry rap fans). All (6) songs are in the 7-8 minute range, which really allows the song to develop and the musicians to showcase their creative skills and get to JAMMING...!

All of the songs have been uploaded onto YouTube, you can also buy their stuff or read more about the band on the bandcamp link at the bottom...

NOTE: the above link is to just one of their new songs, if you click on the poster (Which is the band themselves) you can play their other songs...

https://automatismband.bandcamp.com/music

LASTLY: It's very refreshing to hear music from people that just want to create, these guys are not seeking fame or looking to get rich, their stuff is not even remotely commercial, you can tell they play for the sheer love of it and that adds to the beauty of their final product...

Unless it is Devo, I don't go looking for synth-pop for my musical entertainment. Still, like all genres, there are good bands and good songs from here as well.

I really don't know the extent of the popularity of Future Islands, but some of their stuff is quite good.

This is a new one: For Sure

Back in the late 60's / early 70's most of the great guitar players were in the Blues or Jazz realm, even the great Rock guitarists of the time were pretty much Blues based as well.

But what emerged with Progressive Rock was the Technical Guitarist and in the early 70's the three biggest names were Robert Fripp (King Crimson), Steve Hackett (Genesis) and Steve Howe (Yes):

Here is Yes from 1971:

Here is Genesis from 1971:

And King Crimson from 1974: (If board skip to 9:23 to hear Fripp shredding)
