Imagine Thibbs coaching Randle, who refuses to play defense...

I don’t think anything will work until they get new ownership.

It is only a good move in that Thibs is a big name hardass coach and might have a slight chance of getting the team in line. But there’s only so much you can do with half your team made up of power forwards and nothing else.

If I were a player, unless they threw a boat load of money and I had some idiotic New York fetish, I would stay away from that situation. That is about the worst org to play for right now.

Thibs is gonna kill himself. Lol

Bye.

The Knicks are a joke lol

Thibodeau's work with the Wolves was really bad. Giving him FIVE years? Damn.

Only team more enamored with the "big name" hire than the Lakers is the Knicks.

love the effort on the spelling (not hating -- doubt I could do any better)

anyways, I personally don't mind the move for them, though it depends on who the alternative would be (atkinson? okay he'd be better; mark jackson? rather have tibs)

It's the Knicks. If things don't work out, they have no trouble eating a coach's contract.

That's the joy of being owned by a trust fund baby worth $2 billion whose team prints money no matter how bad it is. Dolan could spend $100 million a year and not run out of money in his lifetime.

It's a great hire, I look for the Knicks to win 3 or 4 MORE games next season...!

I think Thibs has some good defensive pieces to build on. It's just a question of how much of his coaching the players are willing to put up with. These days players just leak info about a players only meeting and coaches head is half way in the noose.

Guys like Knox and Portis may have to move on.

The only really smart thing THibs did, that his entire reputation is basically staked on (at least publicly) is this...

He analyzed the way refs blow whistles. He then figured out that you can basically set moving screens constantly, and just force the refs to blow the whistle, which they won't. So he figured out that moving screens are the key to being "good" defensively. And he rode this all the way to a ring vs the Lakers. He saw that the refs only call it like 1/10 times. So might as well do it constantly.

It also set a terrible precedence in a sense. Now it's been over 10 years of constant moving screens from every team.

keeps getting constant opportunities because he was the defensive coach on a Championship Celtics team, and got carried by Derrick Rose whom he ruined the career of by running him into the ground.

He should be as blackballed as Byron Scott has been, and Byron actually made the Finals twice, what has Thibs ever done to deserve such constant opportunities?

This is one of the dumbest takes I've ever heard. Thibs revolutionized defense in this league to the point that his schemes played an integral role in shaping modern offense. Remember the Spurs in 2014? That doesn't happen without the Thibs defense. And if there had been no 2014 Spurs, there'd be no Warriors (as we know them) since Kerr borrowed Pop's principles when he designed the Warriors' offense.

And to dismiss his run with the Bulls by arguing that Rose simply carried them (LOL) is so asinine that it's not even worth a response.
