I can't remember a time when leadership was more important. If Trump were to do what needs to be done infections would slow and with them so would the death rate. Go the polls or this will be the idiot calling the shots. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I'm a little afraid the same thing will happen in Massachusetts. Our mayor refused to go along with the next phase of reopening for our city because he's convinced the state is going too fast. I'm personally observing the same routines I've been using for the last 4 months -- a high degree of caution, mask, social distancing, hand sanitizer and avoiding crowded public places.

Trump adviser tells WaPo that when it comes to the pandemic, the president is “not really working this anymore. He doesn’t want to be distracted by it. He’s not calling and asking about data. He’s not worried about cases.” https://washingtonpost.com/politics/rancor-between-scientists-and-trump-allies-threatens-pandemic-response-as-cases-surge/2020/07/17/d950e9b6-c777-11ea-a99f-3bbdffb1af38_story.html
POTUS is bored by the pandemic, people just keep dying, boring! He's not getting praise and people laughed at his suggestion we inject bleach. People don't want to come to his rallies so who is going to cheer for him? It distracts from his golf and tv time to worry about all that testing and dead people. It's too much work, damn it, he tried for a few weeks and go no credit! The virus just needs to go away now, he's tired of it.
Looks like the "wartime president" dodged this draft too. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman

I had hoped it was a glitch, but no...The @CDCgov hospital capacity dashboard has gone dark. @CDCDirector has said CDC still has access to the data but apparently the public no longer does.
First they told hospitals to report directly to administration task force and stop reporting to CDC. Now they've "turned off" the CDC website that provides hospital data to the public -- for news, for research, for public consumption.
This is what dictators do. Whether you're D or R, you should not want to vote for people who would turn the country into a third-world banana republic.
In case it's not clear, the Trump administration is paving the way to lie with impunity and make-up COVID numbers that can't easily be fact-checked because they are hiding the data from the public.
They have no plan to address the virus and save lives -- their plan is to confuse the public and lie about the numbers. Their plan is to let people die then pretend it's not happening.
And yet virtually no one in his base has left Trump. His approval rating right now should be - at most - in the 20s, but it's over 40% according to fivethirtyeight.com.
We truly are f'd, not just because of Trump, but even more because of his followers, many of whom seem to think COVID is "just the flu" and won't believe anything that makes their cult hero look bad. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers
Dr Birx told President Trump in April that the coronavirus would soon be gone and influenced the administration's push to reopen the economy and lift lockdown
Dr Deborah Birx, the chief medical officer on the White House coronavirus task force, told Trump administration officials in April that the virus would likely soon go away, reported The New York Times on Saturday.
According to the report, Birx believed the US would follow the same trajectory as Italy, with a sharp increase in cases followed by a gradual decline.
The optimistic assessment provided by Birx reportedly influenced the Trump administration's push to reopen the economy and lift lockdown.
Dr Anthony Fauci, another top member of the task force, has claimed that the states lifted lockdown too early, leading infection rates climb rapidly after weeks in decline.

They believed what they wanted to believe. It reminds me of Bush/Cheney's justifications to go to war in Iraq. They made the decision first, then looked for sketchy data to support their decision.
Trump wanted to open back up. He pressured everyone to support that decision. He didn't want to hear any "bad news" which is why he pushed Fauci to the background and brought Birx to the foreground. She screwed up because her models were wildly optimistic and didn't account for widespread non-compliance by the public in red states (and some blue states) who refused to wear masks, social distance, not congregate in large crowds etc. She used the Italy model, but people in Italy actually complied and stayed locked down. She got swept up in telling them what they want to hear. Bad on her. But Fauci continued to tell them the truth. They didn't wanted to hear it.
The ultimate blame lies with Trump. Blaming Birx is a bull-(bleep) excuse.

Yes, the blame lies with Trump and will be a part of his legacy. But this could not happen and continue to happen without ALL the enablers in his admin, the Republicans in congress, and all who vote for him.

I thought that went without saying, but yeah. And especially the Republican governors who are literally killing their own citizens to make sure Trump doesn't send them a mean tweet. Disgraceful.

Despite that dramatic increase, demand for testing is increasing even faster. As a result, our average turnaround time* for reporting test results is slightly more than 1 day for our priority 1 patients.** However, our average turnaround time for all other populations is 7 or more days.
This is the official press release from Quest Diagnostics. One of the largest, if not thee largest testing facility in the country.
The federal government is providing ZERO financial incentive to increase their testing capacity.
Other countries, with similar companies to Quest have done this. This is a lack of federal leadership. I wish I could blame it on someone or something else. But I can't. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

CBS: "What do you tell parents and teachers who feel that it's unsafe to go back?"
Trump: "... You should find yourself a new person whoever's in charge ... because children and parents are dying from that trauma, too. They're dying because they can't do what they're doing."
"People are telling me they are dying of boredom in lockdown, and the fake news isn't reporting the death rates for this."
The Trump standard intro to made up stories, lies and falsehoods:
"people are telling me ..."
"lots of people are saying that ..."
"I hear that lots of people are saying that ..."
Never a source.
His base is like an uneducated, dumb family with one member who acts like he's smart and the other family members are always in awe of how smart he sounds. "Wow, he really knows a lot!" _________________ “Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”

Including Republican Gov. Stitt of Oklahoma, which has been in stage 3 since June 1 and is spiking like crazy. Stitt himself tested positive for Covid19. Yet he is not lifting a finger, or opening his mouth, to reinstate any restrictions. I guess that is what it means to "take one for Trump."

Dr. Fauci stood his ground and he was set aside. Dr. Birx played the game as was evident in her interview with CNN 2 months ago.
