I cycle to the Beach (Newport, HB) every 4th of July. It has to be one of most crowded times of the year. I'm not riding there this year & surprised OC hasn't closed the beaches this year for the 4th.

It's OC, so I won't hold my breath.

It will be fine because no one from surrounding areas will be going to go to the OC beaches.

Yup. Just fine.

In Massachusetts:

Quote:
For the first time in months, state officials on Tuesday reported zero new deaths in Massachusetts due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic, an encouraging milestone that stood in stark contrast with other states nationwide that have seen recent spikes in their numbers.

I know it's not over and we are all still wearing masks and social distancing state wide, but it's still a relief to get to this milestone.

We are getting to the point where the Orange Curtain may need to be swapped out for a big beautiful wall. In other news, America's fall from grace has been more precipitous than the post Jordan/Pippen Bulls. How did we screw up this bad?

I'd be inclined to agree, but some of my favorite posters here live there.

Better plan is for all the decent people down there to quarantine while the idiots refuse to social distance by going to bars etc. thus infecting each other and dying off. It'll be a slow process, but oh so worth it.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, unless everyone who goes out isn't allowed to interact with anyone who doesn't for two weeks or so. I wish it would.

Time to implement something similar to a smoking section.
Make a special section for Covidiots in stores, workplaces, and other public areas.

In Canada, citizens have gotten 2K stimulus checks monthly. Takes minutes to register online, and the deposits are within 24 hours.

Meanwhile here we have Covidiots in government ushering people back to unsafe working conditions, fighting extra unemployment compensation, and telling the underemployed to kick rocks.

Unfortunately, as Hector the Pup points out, it doesn’t work that way. If we’re going to take a page from the no smoking approach, then it has to be the one that long ago got rid of “smoking sections” because they are pointless. There’s no logistical way to say Covid Section here, healthy people here, even if people would comply.

We simply need to realize that until there is an effective and completely available vaccine, activities like going to bars and other confined spaces where distancing is not possible need to be suspended. Sure, that comes as a bummer to the people who can’t put their need to congregate behind the health of society, and it’s a huge blow to business owners, but it’s the only way we have a chance of reducing the body count until we can effectively prevent infection via vaccine.

I feel ya.
I'm hoping we get a Democrat Congress and President 6 months from now. We aren't as helpless as waiting for a vaccine (probably 12-18 months away). We just need legislation that fixes this problem the same way it's been fixed in countries across the globe.

It seems Canada really cares about the health of its citizens, whereas the US really cares about the health of its economy.

10 Days after Trump indoor event in Arizona with no masks and no social distancing:

Quote:
Steven Dennis @StevenTDennis

ARIZONA sets new record today - 4,878 COVID cases and testing positivity is off the charts — around ***25%*** !

(New York has been reporting 1%)
.

I'm sure it's a coincidence.

4,878 cases of the sniffles should not derail the Trumptrain.
More unprotected rallies in your core states, please, Mr. President.

The OC gets a lot of grief because thats where the people most vocal against these orders are in the state. That being said, LA county is where the most infections are in the state due to its population density and people discretely not following the guidelines and recommendations. Lets face it, we know some people are going out to house parties, bars or gatherings even though they say they aren't until they get infected.

It occurs to me that this virus is a metaphor of sorts for climate change, pollution, vaccinations, income inequality, and racism, among other things. Each one of these requires some individuals to accept some level of degradation of their behavior or privilege in order for others to attain the same, and illustrates that we are not self-contained beings who can live in our own gated off worlds, neither responsible for nor immune from the ills of others. And the sad thing is it's hard to consider tackling problems that will have actual costs when the simple, fairly innocuous wearing of a mask is too much to give up so that others might live.

Newsom orders 19 counties to shut down indoor dining again, and the order also includes movie theatres, family entertainment centers, and cardrooms. Of note in this link I'll provide is that CA hospitalizations are up 51% over the past 2 weeks, while ICU admissions are up 47%.

Here's a link to a pretty good article in The Atlantic that pinpoints Trump's failure to contain Covid-19:

We, humans, have the intellectual capacity to rectify our worldwide problems, but the inconsiderate nature of those in power--and the ignorant hate of those who support that power...

Well, let's just say: I think we're f#*ked!
