I'd be inclined to agree, but some of my favorite posters here live there.
Better plan is for all the decent people down there to quarantine while the idiots refuse to social distance by going to bars etc. thus infecting each other and dying off. It'll be a slow process, but oh so worth it. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, unless everyone who goes out isn't allowed to interact with anyone who doesn't for two weeks or so. I wish it would.

Oh I'm aware. I was expressing the dream scenario. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Time to implement something similar to a smoking section.
Make a special section for Covidiots in stores, workplaces, and other public areas. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

In Canada, citizens have gotten 2K stimulus checks monthly. Takes minutes to register online, and the deposits are within 24 hours.
Meanwhile here we have Covidiots in government ushering people back to unsafe working conditions, fighting extra unemployment compensation, and telling the underemployed to kick rocks. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

Unfortunately, as Hector the Pup points out, it doesn’t work that way. If we’re going to take a page from the no smoking approach, then it has to be the one that long ago got rid of “smoking sections” because they are pointless. There’s no logistical way to say Covid Section here, healthy people here, even if people would comply.
We simply need to realize that until there is an effective and completely available vaccine, activities like going to bars and other confined spaces where distancing is not possible need to be suspended. Sure, that comes as a bummer to the people who can’t put their need to congregate behind the health of society, and it’s a huge blow to business owners, but it’s the only way we have a chance of reducing the body count until we can effectively prevent infection via vaccine. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I feel ya.
I'm hoping we get a Democrat Congress and President 6 months from now. We aren't as helpless as waiting for a vaccine (probably 12-18 months away). We just need legislation that fixes this problem the same way it's been fixed in countries across the globe. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

It seems Canada really cares about the health of its citizens, whereas the US really cares about the health of its economy.
Beaches closed for the 4th of July Weekend in LA County. Most likely because we hit the all time high for cases in LA county today.
I cycle to the Beach (Newport, HB) every 4th of July. It has to be one of most crowded times of the year. I'm not riding there this year & surprised OC hasn't closed the beaches this year for the 4th.
It's OC, so I won't hold my breath.
It will be fine because no one from surrounding areas will be going to go to the OC beaches.
Yup. Just fine.
We are getting to the point where the Orange Curtain may need to be swapped out for a big beautiful wall. In other news, America's fall from grace has been more precipitous than the post Jordan/Pippen Bulls. How did we screw up this bad?
The OC gets a lot of grief because thats where the people most vocal against these orders are in the state. That being said, LA county is where the most infections are in the state due to its population density and people discretely not following the guidelines and recommendations. Lets face it, we know some people are going out to house parties, bars or gatherings even though they say they aren't until they get infected.

It occurs to me that this virus is a metaphor of sorts for climate change, pollution, vaccinations, income inequality, and racism, among other things. Each one of these requires some individuals to accept some level of degradation of their behavior or privilege in order for others to attain the same, and illustrates that we are not self-contained beings who can live in our own gated off worlds, neither responsible for nor immune from the ills of others. And the sad thing is it's hard to consider tackling problems that will have actual costs when the simple, fairly innocuous wearing of a mask is too much to give up so that others might live. _________________ “We must always take sides. Newsom orders 19 counties to shut down indoor dining again, and the order also includes movie theatres, family entertainment centers, and cardrooms. Of note in this link I'll provide is that CA hospitalizations are up 51% over the past 2 weeks, while ICU admissions are up 47%.
We, humans, have the intellectual capacity to rectify our worldwide problems, but the inconsiderate nature of those in power--and the ignorant hate of those who support that power...

I had a similar thought regarding climate change. Even if we beat Coronavirus, we’re just going to boil anyway due to our inability to collectively mobilize. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
The 781,000 total deaths in the United States in the three months through May 30 were about 122,300, or nearly 19% higher, than what would normally be expected, according to the researchers. Of the 122,300 excess deaths, 95,235 were attributed to Covid-19, they said. Most of the rest of the excess deaths, researchers said, were likely related to or directly caused by the coronavirus.
Quote:
The researchers noted the gap between the reported coronavirus deaths and the excess deaths varied by states. For example, California reported 4,046 Covid-19 deaths and 6,800 excess deaths, leaving 41% of the excess deaths unattributed to Covid-19 they said.
Texas and Arizona had wider gaps, with roughly 55% and 53%, respectively, of excess deaths unattributed to Covid-19.
Long but an interesting read. Compares preparation for, support teams for and execution of steps to respond to the covid pandemic with aviation. The final paragraph:
Quote:
The language of an NTSB report is famously dry and clinical—just the facts. In the case of the pandemic, what it would note is the following: “There was a flight plan. There was accurate information about what lay ahead. The controllers were ready. The checklists were complete. The aircraft was sound. But the person at the controls was tweeting. Even if the person at the controls had been able to give effective orders, he had laid off people that would carry them out. This was a preventable catastrophe.”
The summation by a former senior official was less dry and less clinical. He said to me, “Here we stand, on a mountain of dead.”

I'm betting people will propose quick fix hydrochloroquine-like solutions after the fact for climate change too. Like, "lets just drop a huge ice cube in the ocean". _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”
