What are your favorite super hero movies?

I got the Nolan Batman trilogy as my top 3. Dark Knight as 1. Batman Begins as 2. Dark Knight Returns as 3.
Then the most recent Avengers movies rounding out my top 5. Endgame 4. Infinity War 5.

I tend to prefer absurdist and/or revisionist super hero fare like Orgazmo or HK: Forbidden Super Hero, but of the more conventional straight from comic books stuff, I dig Tim Burton's Batman movies and the first two installments of the Blade series. I like Nolan's trilogy, but those films have faded in my esteem over the past 10-15 years, but I can't put my finger on why.

This is primo (bleep), folks. Can't recommend Cairo Station highly enough.

FYI: Alexandria...Why? (1979) and Alexandria Again and Forever (1989) are a paired set and should be seen in that order.

Christopher Nolan's Tenet has been delayed again. That sucks. He's my favorite filmmaker. But he's particular. I'm sure he wants it on the big screen no matter what. He won't be cool with releasing it on demand or something.

I think LA should open up some drive in movie theaters. I'd sit in my car and watch it. But I'm not going to an indoor theater anytime soon.

I think Nolan would rather delay the movie indefinitely than have people watch it at a Drive-In. But for the record there are a few Drive-Ins that have been open and operating in LA since quarantine began. I’ve been a few times and it’s great. Additionally, the Tribeca Film Fest is doing a Drive-in series at The Rose Bowl in July. Here are some links:

Tribeca Series

Mission Tiki Drive In

Vineland Drive In

Now what about a disclaimer about the problematic depictions of race in Green Book?

I think they should leave those movies alone.

Have you seen rhe new 4-min intro HBOMax put up to accompany GWTW?

I haven’t but I read about it and it seems like a fine addition.

We just watched that new EuroVision movie on Netflix, starring Will Ferrell. To say it is desperately unfunny would be unfair to desperately unfunny. I mean, it's truly awful, and Ferrell (who also wrote and served as an Executive Producer) is absolutely terrible in it. I love Rachel McAdams and she at least brings a little bit of heart and charm to her role, making you kind of care about her character. But Ferrell, damn he sucks out loud in this.

And it's getting halfway decent reviews, too. I don't get it. At all. It was a two-hour film and we may have laughed a couple of times.

I'm gradually building out watchlists decade by decade because why not at this point, so these random '90s recs (?) are useful. Thanks.

Will Ferrell and Seth Rogan we’re separated at birth. Both guys had a couple good ideas and are fun in a narrow selection of roles, but both are overindulged and overexposed.

You're welcome.

I tend to remember movies which made an impact on me...enough to want to watch them, again, even if they're somewhat obscure.

Clockers is very underrated. Spike made some oddly forgotten films in the 90s. Summer of Sam and Crooklyn also come to mind.

Summer of Sam was very good. I developed a crush on Jennifer Esposito after watching that movie.

And the movie had potential, in the right hands and with the right lead actor. The Eurovision contest is campy and naturally lends itself well to a fun, silly movie, if done right. The movie did have some moments where I thought it captured some of that, but overall it was just terrible.

I probably will never watch it, but it's interesting to contrast the sentiments here with a mostly positive critical consensus. It sounds like some of the overly positive reviews could come from cabin fever.

The majority of people love Will Ferrell. I think that explains it. I enjoyed his small role in Wedding Crashers, and I've never actually seen Anchorman, though that might be funny based on clips I've seen. Other than that, yeah, not a fan.

Since streaming services are trying to whitewash the use of blackface humor in shows like 30 Rock by pulling offending episodes from their platforms, I wonder again what's up with Rob Schneider's broad ethnic caricatures - usually brownface - in all those Adam Sandler movies?

It's both a terrible movie and super fun. They apparently started shooting with only tge barest outline of a script.
