So I just found a stash of hand sanitizer (5 pocket size bottles) that my wife bought a few years back.

The bad news is it says expire 4/2020. Me I’m going to use it. Curious to what popular opinion here is.

It's fine. No product is allowed to have an expiration date farther out than three years from manufacture. If anything used to make your sanitizer does actually go bad it does so in way more than 3 years.

The alcohol in the sanitizer (which is the active ingredient) is not going to go bad.

Fragrance added might go off, or the texture might change if the gel ingredients breakdown but the alcohol is would remain unless the top was left off and it evaporated. And doubt any changes only two months out from expiration date.

You’re fortunate to have some original pre-covid hand sanitizer. Due to shortages of isopropyl alcohol, apparently some manufacturers have been putting out ethanol-based product which has a terrible odor even hours after it dries.

USE THEM!

My wife thinks the expiration date on anything is the date it turns into POISON...!

I think that is common to all wives. Mine meticulously inspects the sell by date of all the milk bottles when we are buying some at the market. Me I'm gonna pour some milk in my coffee so long as it's not too lumpy.
