Quote:
Yahoo! Sports Chris B. Haynes was a guest on The Mason and Ireland Show today and here are a couple of the highlights regarding the Lakers:

On the Lakers March 2 meeting with Dion Waiters:

“... the reason why it’s scheduled for that day it gives the Lakers time to see who’s going to be able to be bought at that March 1st deadline gives them a chance to see the landscape of players out there and assess from there ... the Lakers are still looking for reinforcements ...”

Haynes added that the Lakers are in no rush to add Waiters and knows “he’s going to be there ... and that’s why they’re waiting to do this ...”

On Dion:

“I’ve heard he’s in pretty good shape. Ready to go.”

Chris expounded that it will be more of “mindset” with Waiters to see if he’s willing to accept a determined role for a team. “Dion is a dog.” An element - “toughness” - the Lakers are lacking.

Blocks Lou twice and then drains a 3 down the stretch... Noice!

Yeah it definitely seems we’re going down this path

My guess is that he doesn’t get a ton of consistent minutes but he’ll be a situational guy who can score off the dribble and shoot a bit. Probably brings more talent-wise than Troy

Workout will be conducted by the Lakers girls for the role of creative male dancer. I heard there could be some firm handshakes, chest bumping and towel waving exercises.

So Dion is the back up plan, this is either Dwight the sequel or he gonna get cut again before playoff... pretty low risk if you ask me since Troy and Cook are kinda redundant

It's their second meeting with Dion which means they haven't dismissed him out of hand. That the potential of Dion intrigues the Lakers.

One of the Laker podcasters wants Dion to take all of Rondo's minutes

If we are that desperate, I would rather have Jamal Crawford than this clown.

But can he handle the T-shirt cannon? Only time will tell...

The thing about Dion is that, by all reports, he's going to have to gain LeBron's trust and support in order to be signed. If that happens, I'm comfortable with it, as Bron knows this team's chemistry better than anyone and obviously would think Dion won't be a cancer

Agreed, if LeBron signs off on the Dion Waiters signing then I trust his judgement.

Whatever LeBron wants. Just do it.

They also played together, so I'm sure he can keep him in check? He looked serviceable in those three games he played for the Heat.

I don't see a roll for Dion on this team, but Troy and Cook don't have rolls either.

If he is just going to become a deep backup who plays situational minutes, OK, but I don't see Dion as a difference-maker.

I’m ok if we sign him but I understand everyone’s concern. We don’t need him to drop 10 plus points a game for us but he can do it in spurts and come playoff time that’s huge. Look JR Smith was a throw in who nobody wanted and Lebron got him a chip. Dwight was ‘done’ and he cane here and revived himself. Dion knows this is it. If this doesn’t work for him; he’s going oversees and probably never heard of again. If the lakers sign him, it’s for good reason.

As a "break glass" option, I think he makes a lot of sense. It will be interesting to see how Vogel uses him. Caruso shouldn't lose any minutes to him, but I'm OK if Rondo does. Even if Waiters doesn't crack the regular rotation, having a guy off the bench who can come in and get buckets when the offense stalls will be extremely helpful. We really don't have a guy like that on this roster.

Remember when Kyrie and Waiters were supposed to be a dynamic duo?

Love the "break glass" analogy.

I say why not? Daniels isn't getting any run and won't anytime soon. Why not have him on the bench and use him in limited mins
