Quote:
Jones was asked in a 2011 interview how, out of all his various achievements, he would best like to be remembered.

"Maybe a description of me as a writer of children's books or some of my academic stuff," he replied. "Or maybe as the man who restored Richard II's reputation. "He was a terrible victim of 14th Century political spin, you know."

This one stings a lot. I remember the first time I saw Flying Circus when I was kid visiting family in England and thinking, "this is so silly and crazy and clever at the same time!" and I was in hard. I loved doing my impression of his old lady voice.

Then, several years ago, showing my son "Holy Grail" and him standing up and professing, "Greatest! Move! EVER!" at the end.

And "Life of Brian" . . . ? Great stuff . . .

So sad that such a great mind was stifled his last few years.

RIP

I appreciate him for the joy and laughter he brought to my family and to me. Sorry to see him go.

This is like a death in the family. But maybe he’s not dead yet.

He wasn’t the messiah. He was a very naughty boy.

I feel this is exactly as Terry would want us to behave.

Reminds me of John Cleese's eulogy of Graham Chapman.

His eulogy of Terry was “two down, four to go”.

I ended up re-watching them at the Aspen Comedy festival last night -- their thing with the ashes had me burst out laughing the first time I saw it, and it did again last night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE67HjEDRTQ

Yeah, it's a great bit, and acceptance speech of their lifetime achievement award was fantastic. Python is the closest to perfect humor for me. Absurd, caustic, wry, clever, silly, pointed, observational, and yet compassionate and poignant all at once.
