Agreed.

He needs to win a ring (or 2) to have his jersey retired here. That is the standard.

Actually, we retired one player who hung it up before he won a ring (Elgin).

In any case, there isn't an official criteria for who we retire. There are only traditions. Jeanne can do whatever she wants.

Our strongest tradition is retired jerseys have to be in the Hall, and Lebron certainly will. So if Jeanne decides to retire his jersey, she (and the Lakers PR department) will have no trouble justifying it no matter how Lebron's career here plays out.

Using that criteria would also open the conversation to players like Malone, Nash or McAdoo. They just don’t have as big a fan club.

Pretty sure the Wizards haven’t retired Jordan’s jersey or built a statue either.

But you are correct, Jeanne can do whatever she likes. Doesn’t mean I’m going to agree with it. Win a championship or two, then we can talk.

Honestly I’m hoping James can make it happen this year because I don’t think he can play at this level or more importantly Lakers can build a deep and talented enough team to carry him over the next couple years of his retirement tour. This year is the best and perhaps only chance IMO.

x3. It’s not his fault either he’s 35.

Even with that spring in his step and having time off last playoffs, the younger athletic guys can still neutralize him.

Another reason to be patient with young guys and not trade them for name veterans who have lost more steps than 35 year old Lebron.

I'd say the tradition is that we only retire Hall of Famers who made a significant contribution to the Lakers.

Some people think that means a ring. As far as James, personally I'll wait to see how his career here plays out. I could see an argument he deserves to be retired if, he, say, wins an MVP or breaks Kareem's scoring record amid a string of 4 or 5 strong seasons.

That said, I don't really have any specific criteria or benchmarks myself. I'll wait to see what happens and evaluate it then.

His entire game revolves around getting to the line, especially if his shot isn’t falling. I find his game to be tedious to watch. Talented to be sure…but tedious to watch.

He now needs 81 points to pass Kobe on the all-time scoring list. It looks like it will be on this road trip.

LeBron got asked if these wins without AD give the Lakers more confidence in themselves.

"No, because we can't beat teams with winning records. That's what they say, right?"

Harden would threaten to pass Kobe in one game, then get completely benched at the end of the third so he can make the funniest faces imagining what could have been

Probably at 76ers, unless he load manages a game, then it would look like home game vs. Clippers. I won't be surprised if he takes NYK game off.

Pretty fantastic to witness this!

He hasn’t improved since his rookie season.

Not even Kawhi would load manage an MSG game. The Knicks stink, but it's still MSG.

No (bleep) clue how the refs missed that obvious goal tend on Capela to end the first half. I was watching on my tiny IPhone screen and saw it, yet the refs somehow missed it. It wasn’t even close. Lebron should have had two more points.
