Wrong thread man. Political conspiracy and collusion chasing should stay out of the jeopardy thread no?

Took me a bit to figure out why he bet so little on that Final Jeopardy question when he was down. Pretty brilliant, actually, if I understand the rules of Jeopardy and how the money works correctly.

What a game.

The Champ got unlucky in that he only hit the initial daily double on the first clue of the game and no daily doubles after that.

Even if he had doubled in Final Jeopardy by betting it all, he would have lost by $1.

Emma played brilliantly and was fortunate to hit the Daily Doubles, props to her.

I was thinking the same thing. He was betting Emma Boettcher, would over bet and he'd win. I didn't count the monies but I think he calculated her bet and wagered enough to win by 1 dollar.

Basically, only the leader at the end of the night wins any money, so there is no value in trying to maximize your money unless you’re going to be the leader. He likely figured the woman was as good as he was at trivia (a good assumption given her success that night), so the odds were that if he could get the final question right, then she would too. And he knew that if she wanted to win, she would have to bet big, at least as much as necessary to guarantee a win if both of them answered correctly, in case he did too because she couldn’t count on him missing the question. So his goal was merely to make sure he’d have more than the guy below him if he doubled up, and if the question was exceptionally hard and they all missed it, he would win.

So, if everyone gets the question right, he loses. If everyone gets the question wrong, he wins. If the girl and he get the question wrong and the third guys gets it right, he still wins.

If he bet the max he could, then if everyone gets the question right, he still loses. If everyone gets it wrong, he also loses. If he and the girl get the question wrong and the third guy gets it right, he loses. By betting the way he did, he maximized the scenarios where he would win based on a fairly safe assumption: There’s very little chance the girl would bet a small amount since she’s facing a multiple day champion who has proven to be exceptional at trivia.

Getting his revenge on the lady who eliminated him in the Tournament of Champions. It is only day 1 of 2 but he is spanking her.
