It’s stupid to think because he “died” he gets out, but it’s pretty extreme to work off the idea of retribution and revenge as punishment. And the idea of incarceration is not suffering. It’s loss of freedom. Part of the reason we have such high recidivism along with high initial crime rates is our atavism.

He's got bad luck to survive sepsis in a hospital setting. That usually does the trick. He's in there for killing another man with a pick axe. I don't think they're gonna let him go.
