I remember it as if it were a death sentence, too.
Magic was the reason I became a Laker fan. Will never forget watching play live in person. One of the best sporting memories of my life.
He may have wound up the GOAT if he stayed healthy. However, he's alive almost 3 decades later. Which is a big win. |

In 1991 it really was a death sentence. He said “I’m going to beat this” , but my thoughts were, that’s just Magic being positive like he always is. He didn’t disappear from the public eye at all, he was still a regular at Lakers games throughout the season. Seeing him was difficult because you couldn’t help but to think, “when is it going to happen?” Miraculously he never got sick and in a few years you just stopped worrying about it. He’s a very blessed man. |
