Sad, I watched him pitch last week and thought that he had promise. As a Cardinal fan, it brings back memories of Darryl Kyle.

Terrible news. Way too young.

Wow, that's awful. I was sick the day after Nick Adenhart died, so instead of going to school I just watched a bunch of memorials for him on ESPN. Basically a decade later it happens again to the Angels. RIP

Is this assumed to be suicide? 27 year olds don't normally pass away in their sleep.

No. Police say there are no signs of suicide, at this pointy anyway. It quite possibly could be something along the lines of congenital heart disease or some other condition that may have been previously undetected.

I heard on the news that his family had a history of heart disease. Anyways, heart disease is a silent killer and I personally knew somebody who died in their 30's, he went to sleep and never woke up.

Horrible news...Adenhart, Valbuena, Skaggs. Angels have had many tragedies happen to them.

You can add Lyman Bostock to that list.

I thought this was a very well written article about Lyman Bostock if anyone is interested.

I was a kid at the time and a huge baseball fan, it was quite shocking as a youth.

My heart goes out to the Skaggs family, absolutely brutal.

Every player (and Victor Rojas and Mark Gubicza in the booth) wore Skaggs jerseys. His mother Debbie, a softball coach, threw a perfect first pitch strike right before the game. The Angels put up 7 runs in the 1st inning. They combined for a no-no. And right after the game, every player removed their Skaggs jersey and placed it on the mound.

Absolutely incredible. Stuff like this is why there is nothing like sports.

Being so close to the stadium, I thought about going. But I was tired from a long day and stayed home and watched. Glad I didn't go. I probably would have jinxed it. I'm glad you were there, though. It was quite moving even on TV. And I thought they handled it really well on the broadcast. Even as the no-hitter got into the late innings, they didn't over-emphasize it, keeping the focus on the fact that they were honoring Skaggs' memory. And when they were able to complete it, they made it into an amazing moment and then that tribute on the mound...just wow.

Very sad news. I know one of the family members, and it sucks to hear it happened like this.
