Run McGee + LBJ +Kuz when AD sits
Run McGee + AD + Kuz some of the time when LeBron sits.

This.

Green is the shooter. Bradley and AD have respectable 3 ball.

That would be my starting lineup as well. Lebron and AD pick and roll with 2 spot shooters And let Boogie fish some fouls inside.

Yep this is mine. Green is a great shooter, Bradley a decent one, too. Both will provide good defense or above. LeBron initiates the offense. I think Boogie has to start, if he gets back to form he’s probably a 18/9 or 20/10 player, and having that immediate offensive impact is important. I wouldn’t finish with him though, I’d replace him with Kuzma and shift AD to center

As LFR's tweet said, the starting lineup plays 2.5-3x more than any other unit on the floor. With that in mind, and given a team that is deeper than years past, who've you got?

PG: Bradley
SG: KCP
SF: Green
PF: James
C: Davis

Reasoning:
As much as AD likes to play center, he needs spacing to be effective. This isn't 1995, and PFs are now more like wings than big men. He's got to play down low where he belongs. AD is the perfect center for the modern game.

I'm assuming here Vogel can get KCP to play defense, and that his shot is somewhat respectable. Swap him out for Cook if the shots not falling. We have 2.5 capable defenders (Bradley is the 0.5), 4 players who can shoot the 3, and two guys who can score the ball reliably - James and Davis. Put them in PnR and have the others space the floor.

Issue here is that we don't want anyone not LeBron or Davis trying to create. KCP and Green are below average in that situation, notably. Kuzma would solve that problem a bit, but he's too big of a defensive liability.

Off the bench, I'd probably bring in Rondo and Cousins to form a nice duo. Let Kuzma be a wing scorer, and maybe round it out with Dudley and one of our remaining guards like Caruso.

I don't think we could have landed DMC for that price if we didn't promise him the starting role.

With that in mind, combined with Rondo's familiarity with DMC and AD while in NOP, we may be better starting the season off with:

Rondo
Green
LeBron
AD
DMC

I'm not sure who's going to end the season starting at PG or C but until we know what we have, I think putting the best 5 out there would be most prudent.

Offensively, I'd prefer:

KCP (catch&shoot)
Green
LeBron
Kuzma
AD

No matter what, we know we have legit starters at 4 positions (2-5). The right PG will be the key for us this year.

Bradley/rondo/cook/Caruso
Green/KCP/Daniels/THT
Lebron/Kuzma/ Dudley
Davis/Kuzma/Dudley
Cousins/javale/Davis

Bron runs the point with the starters, rondo with the bench. KCP and Kuzma running off picks, javale rolling hard to the basket, rondo setting em up.

Best bench in the NBA, easily

when I think of starting lineups I have 3 different ones each has a specialty

Defense:

Bradley
Green
Lebron
Davis
McGee

Bradley to lock down the point guards, Danny Green to guard the shooting guards, Davis and McGee to lock down the paint and Lebron plays free safety.

Offense:

Lebron
Green
Kuzma
Davis
Cousins

Basically bully ball the opposing team to death. A good Lineup against the smaller Clippers (they have no answer for Cousins and Davis)

Shooting

Cook
Green
Lebron
Kuzma
Davis

Lebron surrounded by the best shooters for each position. This lineup would be great running 5 out ball and letting Lebron attack the paint by bringing the Center away from the paint. Probably a good lineup to run against the Jazz to bring Gobert away from the paint.

So here's the problem i have with our use of the term "closers".. it implies that we are ahead..

because if we are behind we really do need the two way players who are good 3-pt shooters (that we mostly DON'T have, other than green)

This is how exactly how I see it. Although I think Caruso have a better chance to crack the rotation than Daniels and Cook. If we pick up Iggy then he will be ahead of KCP and KCP will finally get ship.

Boogie is a respectable shooter as well, though, and good for a big. He shot poorly last year but the previous two seasons he shot it at 35 plus percent, which is even better than Davis. Both he and AD are good enough shooters to get the green light and just let it fly if they're semi open. Can even go 5 out if Frank so desires.

Depth chart 2.0

Quinn/AB/Alex/Rondo
Green/TD/THT
LBJ/KCP/JD
AD/Kuz
DMC/McGee

How do you win with LBJ? You surround him with shooters. When it comes to the bench, we shouldn't do wholesale hockey line changes but as a unit our bench would have some nice scoring power

I keep going back and forth on if Kuz or DMC should start but this edition ill go with Cousins. Really a lot this will change once we actually see how these guys play together and who works with who the best

Bradley/Caruso/Rondo/Cook
Green/Daniels/Cook/KCP
LBJ/(Iggy-shaped hole here)/Kuzma/KCP/THT
AD/Kuzma/Dudley
Javale/Cousins - either order

PG - Pretty confident between Bradley and Caruso we'll get solid defense and they can both shoot. LBJ can also facilitate. Cook can shoot but screw defense. Rondo still has his good days, again not on defense. We're almost too deep here.

SG - Green and then who outplays who between Daniels and KCP. Cook a bit undersized here. Not bad.

SF - James obviously but wing defender is a big hole. All star offense though. A LOT of potential backups, none ideal.

PF - AD and Kuzma - wow, love having both.

C - Javale for rim protection, Cousins for scoring/passing. Who starts depends on the matchup.

Really not a bad lineup if Vogel can get them cohesive.

Vogie is a huge upgrade from Luke.

That will be proven out over the course of the upcoming season.

A very odd post and a very odd perspective.

LG trying so hard to wish KCP out of the starting lineup. Shoot LG would wish him off the team if it was possible too.

I'm not a fan of KCP either. But I have a feeling he'll be starting. The power of Klutch.

LeBron wants to win more than he cares about KCP. But, so many new faces, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the starter to start the season. But even then, I expect Bradley to overtake that role before long.

Continuity might put both KCP and JaVale in the starting lineup at the start of the season, but Bradley and Boogie most likely overtake those spots.

They are doing the same thing with Rondo, many of them are leaving him completely out of rotation.

KCP and Rondo will have big roles in the upcoming season, whether people like it or not, me personally, i'm big fan of both.

Hope Cousins can return to a 40% 3 point shooter on wide open 3s (he shot 42% in '17-'18 and 39% in '16-17 before the tear). Having a knockdown shooter at the 5 next to Bron/AD (I'm assuming the two guards will be something like Bradley/ Green) would be excellent. To say nothing of what else DMC can do on offense.

Unfortunately that number dropped to 29% on wide open 3s this past season. Hopefully it's not like Kobe who became entirely unable to shoot, and he can recover more akin to Rudy Gay.
