CHICAGO — A judge on Friday ruled that a special prosecutor needs to investigate Cook County State's Attorney Kimberly Foxx's handling of the Jussie Smollett case and that "the integrity of our criminal justice system" is at stake.
Quote:
Gloria Schmidt, a lawyer for the brothers, said they're willing to answer any questions from a special prosecutor.
"The special prosecutor would have an opportunity to look at the evidence and effectively do this whole case over again — re-charge him, re-arraign him, reconvene the grand jury," Schmidt said. "It's like we're back to square one."
I hope they don't recommend prosecuting him again. I think he's been punished enough outside of the legal system. This is about getting to the truth about Foxx's handling of the case.
Key phrase bold green. It's an elected position. Her position's not in jeopardy by the investigation. Could hurt her chances for reelection.
I disagree....if they find corruption, her position is definitely in jeopardy. If they can prove corruption on her part, her freedom is in jeopardy. ISmollett has nothing to worry about....unless he was identified as a party to the corruption....as in the corruption involves money, gifts, or favors given by or for Smollett, which I doubt. Beyond his involvement, even if there was some type of mishandling of the case, I think he is in the clear.
Where are there grounds for a corruption case? I see favoritism but as far as I know that's not against the law.

Law is supposed to apply to all people equally
Regardless of
Race, religion, gender etc
Smollet and the prosecutor..
Her favoritism is the corruption.
No charges? How much money wasted so a mentally deranged man
Can go on TV and do interviews saying white people attacked him and called him
Racial and Homosexual slurs
He is a creepy boy who will tell dangerous lies putting innocent citizens in danger
How can anyone claim he doesn't deserve charges? He tried to punk the police and still never admitted guilt

My understanding is they're investigating the handling of the case to see if Jussie should be retried. I'm not aware of a corruption investigation. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Will be interesting to see how Juicy Sommelier escapes this one
Justice For Juicy is trending in California on Twitter lol.
Other than knowing the Juicy joke, I actually haven't followed this too much . . . but isn't a slam dunk from the prosecution's view? He definitely fabricated the crime, I thought that much was clear. I get that he's a celebrity and all that but I don't see the injustice here.

Chapelle is the greatest.
Those 5 minutes or so were my favorite of that special. "Find out where Kanye West was last night." Actually, my favorite line of that whole bit may have been where he goes "it sounds like something...that I would say!"

I think the judge explained it pretty well:
Judge Linn pointed to Jussie's testimony during trial, when he talked about his life ... and he talked about social justice and how much it meant to him and his family. And, the judge noted the irony and hypocrisy that Jussie engineered a hate crime hoax.
Judge Linn says Jussie wasn't motivated by money ... he did it because he craved the attention and thought he could boost his profile by tapping into the social justice movement in America. He said he just wanted to make himself more famous, throwing himself a "national pity party." _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

You guys feel this punishment appropriate, 5 months jail? I mean vs maybe probation and fine?
Given the way he handled it all? Yeah. Especially since he won't end up doing that with early release. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I was surprised by the sentencing. I was expecting celebrity justice to prevail and he might get something like 10 days or no jail time at all. The harsher sentence might have been more about the perjury at his trial than faking the hate crime.
The judge said it best when he told Smollett he'd done more damage to himself than anything he could do to him. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant

What’s interesting is Smollett and Sherri Papini did essentially the same thing, just in reverse. Smollett claimed to be a victim of white supremacy and Papini claimed to be a victim of Hispanics.

An attorney on the radio claimed that she thought the 150 days in jail was fair, but she said the 30 months probation was more harsh than she expected. Then she went on to say his probation is fairly lenient....she claimed he has no travel restrictions and is allowed to call in to report. Maybe things have changed, but I recall people telling me in the past when they were on probation, they had to get permission to leave the county and there was no calling in to PO to report.
One thing I noticed, he looked like he has gained significant weight since he was on television.

this guy is an idiot and obviously guilty but it seems like they went after him especially hard considering this was pretty much a victimless crime. I hope authorities keep this same energy for everyone else caught falsely accusing someone else of a crime which is much worse. _________________ (bleep) Kawhi
