Getting Judy Seto back was a good start, but we also need to focus on getting the best and brightest in personal fitness, recovery and rehabilitation on our staff. Now would be a good time to start poaching some well-known names from other teams or industries. It will not only be huge for managing LBJ and AD throughout the season, but a major selling point of trying to coax someone like Kawhi. Looking forward to seeing how we can enhance our medical department.

Yes. Gotta protect your stars. I know people and season ticket holders pay big money to see them play, but Kawhi just vindicated the load management approach for all the other 29 teams.

Regular season isn't meaningless, but if your main guy is hobbled and limited in the playoffs, what's the point of making the playoffs? You're essentially screwed without a healthy star player. Ask the Warriors.

It literally takes a village to keep a player healthy these days, and young players are dropping like flies (see Ball, Hart, BI and the youth injury sports epidemic). It's not just a job for the medical staff. Really requires a top-down methodology to keep these players healthy. Lebron has his own tools, methods that he utilizes at home.

Yup, injuries are a risk for everyone weather you are a role player or superstar. I think the strategy should be to play your stars just enough to get a good playoff seed, (sit back to backs, games against bottom feeders, etc.) to ensure they can play every game in the playoffs. Worked out masterfully for the Raptors.

Griffin poached their head athletic trainer for the Pels.

I expect significant load management this year. I think Lebron will be playing around 70 games if healthy....and AD around 72-74 if healthy. If you live in a city with a lottery team, and that is your chance to see the Lakers each year.....would not count on more than 50-50 odds they both play.

I would really be pumped if the Lakers made some moves in this department. One of the unsung sides of team management.

"Load management" is ok for a guy who is already obviously hurting. But outside of that, it's just more modern-day BS.

How many games have the all-time greats throughout the history of the sport sat out in their careers due to 'load management"?

Winning as many games as you can during the regular season is still vitally important. For silly things like home court advantage in the playoffs. It's a real load when you have to play Game 7 in the other guy's gym.

Today's players enjoy the benefits of improvements in sports medicine and nutrition that their predecessors could only dream about. They enjoy easier and more luxurious travel that their predecessors probably never imagined. That helps lessen the load.

"Load management" is a load. If the teams want to go that route with their players, fine, but call it what it is. Taking a day off.

I tend to agree, though obviously don't have data either way to back it up.

Players are definitely treated far better pre- and post-game than ever before. On the surface, I would think that today's NBA is a much more athletic, faster-paced game that involves more distances run and cuts made than the NBA of the 80s. This would lend well to the idea of needing more advanced medical teams, etc. But, the NBA of the 80s was likely far more bruising, which has its own set of physical challenges it creates.

Kawhi winning this championship showed that health and rest are important.
Spurs lost a top 3 player because they didn't give him TIME to rest. This is insane.

Nobody in Laker fandom knows how good or bad Judy is.

Kobe also liked Slava Medvedenko a lot, let's not forget.

My general feeling about the Lakers org is that it's rife with nepotism and friendship hookups like most family businesses are. We all know this about the Lakers. You're not always going to get an optimal placement of talent.

So as much as Kobe likes Judy, I also err on the side of Lakers not hiring the best personnel. Hell, we all loved Gary Vitti, but was he really the best? He was with the Lakers forever. Stu? Stu annoys the (bleep) out of most diehard fans, but of course we know he isn't the best color commentator, and let's face it, he was extremely fortunate to pal up with Chick, the greatest ever.

We can go down the whole line... Rudy the equipment manager. Probably a nice guy, but was he the best?

Kurt, Linda, the whole Buss family... to be honest, even guys like Luke. Where would Luke be right now if he didn't have Walton next to his name? It helps to have your dad to be so entrenched in NBA circles.

So long story short, yeah I'm gonna bet on Judy not being the best in the biz just judging from how the Lakers are run.

Nah Judy is actually extremely respected in the sports medicine field without question. The average fans don't know about her obviously but most cant name any of the other teams medical staff.

She was just recently working with the Dodgers and was contacted by the 76ers to help with Fultz.

No doubt they still need to fill out the entire medical staff and she is only one piece but she's not just some unknown and def. should not be compared to Vitti imo.

This is a serious factor in the Lakers getting to the Finals next season and competing for a championship.

LeBron will need to play 65-75% of regular season games next year which could total to approximately 60-62 games.

IMO he can definitely suit up and possibly participate in every game but if he does, maybe his minutes drop significantly so that he's fresh for the playoffs.

The only way this happens for the Lakers is to find a suitable backup for LeBron.
AD will require less load management simply because he's younger, but I don't believe he's ever played an entire season since being in the League, so a similar formula may need to be introduced.

Barring the signing of another Max player if we're competing with LBJ and AD, Load Management for both players will be key. Kuzma may have to step up and carry the load on some nights, so a complete supporting cast for the two Superstars is of the utmost importance!

With the signing of Boogie, and knowing that LeBron and LeBrow now both have injury histories... I'm really hoping they strenghten their medical team. This team has a real shot at the title but injuries and recovery times could derail the whole thing.

Kawhi didn’t trust our medical staff and I don’t blame him.

Lonzo being hurt 2 years for postponing surgeries in favor of rest or plasma injections. LeBron’s groin went from being he’ll miss maybe a few games, into him missing 20 games. Ingram can’t stay healthy and missing over 20 games two years in a row.

CC is right.

Well, the Lakers have a pretty solid medical staff so you can't always control when players breakdown.

And it wasn't that Kawhi didn't trust our staff, he wanted to bring his own staff in like Lebron has. That's normal.

Plus, he asked if he could bring his own people and the Lakers reportedly didn't have a problem with it so I'm not buying into this latest Kawhi-spin.

And LeBron was never going to come back quickly after we knew he heard a pop in his groin.
