If he adds a "-vich" to his last name maybe. _________________ Under New Management |

Sidney Moncrief was a two-time DPOY. If he deserves to be in the HoF than four-time DPOY Ben Wallace also deserves it. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

I disagree with that. Moncrief was a great all-around player. In addition to being a great defender, he was a 20 ppg a scorer for 5 straight years. He made all-NBA teams four straight year in a great era for guards, and finished as high as 4th in MVP period. Alas, his career was cut short by injuries.
Wallace was a great defender and rebounder, but he wasn't the all-around player Moncrief was. |

Defense was a bigger part of The Game before 2008, and these two guys - along with Rodman - were best of breed defenders of their era. If three point specialists like Reggie and Ray get in, I say the best defenders belong in too.
Magic Johnson said that Rodman and Moncrief gave him the most trouble of any player who covered him. Jones was fast, long and physical - as tough as nails; the rule changes since his time eliminated chance for this type of success in the league. |
Eh. Moncrief had five good years. That's why he has never made the Hall of Fame. I remember Bobby Jones pretty well. I never would have considered him to be Hall of Fame material. He was a good defender, but he was a power forward who averaged 5-6 rebounds and less than 30 minutes per game in his prime.
I think the Basketball Hall of Fame may be broken beyond repair. This sort of nonsense smacks of lobbying campaigns -- that someone found a way to lobby for Bobby Jones to make the Hall of Fame. There really is no good reason for Bobby Jones to be making the Hall of Fame 33 years after he retired. It is likely that some of the voters never saw him play. |
I'm more sympathetic to Moncrief. For five years, he was an amazing player, but then his career got derailed by injuries.
Bobby Jones is the one I don't get. He was a good player and excellent defender, but even in the watered-down ABA he only made one ABA second team, falling below luminaries like Marvin Barnes and Billy Knight. |
