ain't that the truth. just think, we'd still be in the tail end of the CP3 era.

Probably with 2 or 3 more titles.

Given Kobes and Paul's health issues, it seems just as likely to me it could have been a winless and frustrating too

And C's fans keep crying about how they didn't have Perkins in game 7. We were 1 meltdown in game 4 from possibly beating them in 08 too.

Since we're already deep in what-if territory, I think that the presence of CP3s eases Kobe's workload, so probably no achilles tear late in 2013.

The best thing about that Laker team was that it was never supposed to happen.

If we never got Gasol, we may have become a good team, but not a contender, let alone a championship team. Bynum was good, but not that good, and as we all know his knees were less reliable than a 1978 Ford Pinto with the exploding fuel tanks.

Who knows, maybe Kobe would've demanded a trade again, and he either would've been traded or left as a free agent in 2009. That would've made our FO look like even more of a disaster than it looks like nowadays, and we (probably) wouldn't have been able to attract a Lebron or other superstar.

The way I see it, Kobe's indomitable work ethic and will to win attracted the good fortune to acquire Pau Gasol and start the second half of our dynasty.

Erasing injuries that actually happened takes this a little too deeply into fantasyland for me.

If you go that direction, you can pretty much what-if any outcome you want for any player or any team.

Lots of players have a whole drawer-full of that type of what-if rings.
