Luke will tank a game to prove a point to players. Problem is he’s been responsible for tanking 5-10 games by this point. I think he’s too clouded and biased by his relationships with players to make the right decisions, e.g., playing Kuzma when he’s hot and staggering rotations in a logical manner.

Luke thinks he’s being clever, like Phil Jackson, but he doesn’t have nearly the same coaching IQ.

Or the front office.

But there are 24 games left and we're only 3 games out of the playoffs. If nobody else gets hurt. We should be fine.

I'm okay with getting rid of Luke. I just want to make sure we hire somebody better as his replacement and not somebody worse.

Also, ideally, the new coach should be a good fit for the roster we create in the 2019 offseason.

Can it get worse? He may be worse than Lord Byron.

even if you fire Luke we are not going to get better with the next hire?

you know why? cause the 1st and only prerequisite to be a laker coach is to be a former laker.

thats some high level BS

I mean. What are people (fans and front office) expecting? We hire Cranjis as an assistant. And he convinces Lebron to move around off ball more and to be less ball dominant? The magical assistant convinces Lebron to change his game after all these years?
Or we'll get more 3 pt attempts due to a new assistant, so when our defense still gives up 130+ points in a given game we lose by 10 instead of 20?

There wasn't a thing wrong with our team Christmas Day when we beat GS. And it's no coincidence, we were HEALTHY!!

Lebron has set Magic up and he has no clue.

It can get a lot worse than Luke. He is an average coach. Not great, not terrible. Just average. If you want to see bad, look at Kidd and Mark Jackson.

We have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the league. We have to start beating teams that are better than us to get into the playoffs.

Right on cue. Never change dude.

Magic’s a really smart guy. So many accomplishments and still people want to call him dumb. The one person who can’t be bullied by Lebron and RP is Magic Johnson. He won’t let Lebron treat the Lakers like the Cavs, that’s for sure.

Getting rid of Luke won't solve the problem. His staff is the core of the problem. Magic's getting help for LeBron he should also be getting help for Luke.

Your coaching style led to the losses to Knicks and Cavs @ home.

If we miss the playoffs by one or two games, he is outta here.

We also won a couple games as heavy underdogs. Like the X-mas game. That's normally how things go. Especially for a middle of the pack team. You don't beat every team you should and you end up upsetting some teams better than you.

Even good teams get upset by bad teams. The 72-10 Bulls lost multiple times to the expansion team Toronto Raptors.

I think he might need to get out of the first round to survive.

Many of us here have been saying the same things. But why doesn't the Lakers FO and Jeanie see the same obvious flaws???

Why does Luke still have a job after almost 3 seasons???

Only way is, Lebron will have to pull a full E. Dickerson move.

It's easy to blame Luke for our record. But the biggest reason we're on the outside of the playoffs looking in is injuries. Lebron missed 15+ games. What other western conference playoff team had their best player miss that amount of games.

And as far as talent difference between the 1st best player on a roster and everyone else. The gap on our roster might be the largest in the league.

Understandable.

But he's inflicting a thousand tiny cuts on the Lakers and we are bleeding ourselves out of the playoffs when the margin is so thin.

There are probably about 5-10 other coaches in the whole league that would've helped our injury plagued roster win more games than we have this year. And none of those guys are available if we can Luke.

A 28-28 record is nothing really to pat yourself on the back about.

We've gone 8-14 since LeBron got hurt Xmas day. What's there to pat Luke on the back about?

Maybe when they hired Luke, they didnt have the basketball expertise to know what the warriors run. but they wanted to be like the warriors. Same situation with the current FO. LFR probably has more knowledge than our entire FO sadly.

Luke will stay for as long as Lebron wants him there. He will get impatient by summer.

Don't remember saying Luke deserves a pat on the back. He doesn't.

But since I answered your question. Will you answer mine? If we fire Luke today, who do we hire that is better for us this season and beyond?

Yeah, but you did say that "There are probably about 5-10 other coaches in the whole league that would've helped our injury plagued roster win more games than we have this year. And none of those guys are available if we can Luke."

So you're saying Luke's better than 20-25 other coaches in the league? That's patting him on the back for going 8-14. That's saying 8-14 is an accomplishment 20-25 of the coaches in the league can't achieve.

You're saying only 5-10 other coaches can beat Luke's 8-14 record these last 22 games as if 8-14 is some type of accomplishment.

Quote:
But since I answered your question. Will you answer mine? If we fire Luke today, who do we hire that is better for us this season and beyond?

Can't say you answered anything. All you did was deny saying something.

But, I answered this one already. It's probably 2 pages back. If they fire Luke, they won't hire a permanent coach. They'll just make Shaw the interim coach.

What would be some pros to this? Maybe they can see how the players react to some different rotations.

Maybe Shaw's not the long term coach they want but maybe he's more in line with the substitution patterns that they are looking for.

At least they get to assess how the team reacts to a new voice.

Firing Luke right now is not about being guaranteed to getting someone better. If they fire Luke, it's because Luke's not working and they just need a new voice right now.

And I'll answer your question this way - it can't get worse w/ Shaw at the helm. I don't see it.

Didn't we fire Del Harris one yr to hire Kurt Rambis? At the end of the yr, we ended up bringing in Phil Jackson. Firing Del Harris early gave notice to all other coaches that there's an opening coaching job this summer.

Milwaukee fired Kidd, got an interim coach and now have a really good permanent coach and took off.

It doesn't have to be a simultaneous process where you need to have the replacement lined up before you can fire the current coach. You can do it in 2 steps. Fire the coach, get an interim coach, then search for the new coach in the offseason.
