RONDO!!!!!… In the dying seconds of the game, the ball magically found Rondo’s hands. He rose up, got the shot off … the clock expired … and just as his shooting had been going for him all night … splash. At the buzzer. For the win.

Buzzer beaters against the Celtics go down in Laker lore. They are relived again and again. They may not admit it, but a little bit of every Celtic fan died in that moment.

The Lakers were down by as many as 18 points in the first half, but they would storm back behind a season-high 9 threes in a 42-point third quarter.

They were living life on the edge to close of that game. LeBron nearly lost the handle on one play, threw it back inbounds and KCP came up with it between a couple Celtics, then fed it back to LeBron for a corner three. The Lakers were down 6 late, but KCP drained a huge corner three on an inbounds pass and then Kuzma came up clutch with an ice-cold wing three with 18 seconds left to take the lead. Timeout Celtics.

The next 18 seconds was nonstop action to close the game. Kyrie attacked right and scored a layup to take a 1-point lead. The Lakers inbounded immediately. Ingram pushed it up, attacked a mismatch and was blocked on a reverse. Tyson Chandler, causing trouble, somehow got a hand on the ball in a crowd of green. The ball popped free and found Rondo.

He didn’t hesitate, but didn’t overly rush it. Nothing but net on a 20-footer to take a 129-128 Laker win. The bench mobbed Rondo as LeBron hoisted him up from behind.

The Lakers acquired three shooting at the trade deadline today. Tonight, they somehow played like they didn’t need it, knocking down an incredible 22-41 from three, a franchise record.

LeBron -- -- You could hear the crowd groan whenever he came up something big. They’re glad they only have to deal with him a couple times a year. Despite some first half FT issues, he finished the half with 14 points, 5 boards and 5 assists on his way to the eventual triple-double, delivering similar numbers in the second half. With shooters around him (like tonight…and hopefully going forward with the new pickups), he was just setting the table again and again. He may have only shot 1-5 from the line, but buried 5-10 from three. Physically, he looked great. There was a moment in the first half where it looked like we were about to get run out of the building, but you could see him go into that refuse-to-lose playoff mode and kept us in. Celtics so wanted to pile on the Lakers after this trade deadline. But at the end of the day, we still got LeBron, we still have cap space for another max free agent and we still have our youth. The Stats: He scored 28 points on 11-21 shooting (5-10 from three, 1-5 from the line) to go with 12 boards, 12 assists, 3 steals, 3 turnovers and 4 fouls in 40 minutes. He was a +11. The Action: He missed a turnaround and then corner three. He attacked Tatum and scored a layup with ease. He setup McGee for FTs on the two-man game. Looked like an obvious missed foul as he probed the lane and lost the ball. He attacked left and scored the And-1 layup in early offense, he made the FT. He was fouled in transition at midcourt, he missed both. He got body checked on a drive with no call and missed. He scored a layup on the break. He pushed it out and found Kuzma wide open for a dunk. He tipped in a miss in a crowd. He choked a layup in transition. He sank a deep three. He found Lance open under the hoop for a score. He pushed up a board and kicked back to KCP for the open three. He hit KCP behind a screen after a timeout for another three. Out in transition and Ingram lobbed to him for the dunk. He iso’d and drew FT, he missed both. He pulled up for a 40-footer (dude, just scoot in 5 more feet, at least) and missed. Second Half: Bogus third foul on what looked like a sure stop. He found Kuzma for an open three. He missed a pull-up three in transition. Pocket pass to McGee for the layup out of a timeout. He kicked out to Kuzma for a three. He kicked out to Ingram for a corner three. He probed and kicked to KCP for three next time down. He sank a step-back wing three on iso. He attacked off the three line and flipped in a layup to beat the shotclock. He missed an elbow jumper. He missed a pumping corner three. He sank a wing three right over his man. His transition bounce pass was picked off. He drained a three behind a screen in early offense. He missed a long pull-up. He nearly lost the ball off the dribble out of bounds, but saved it, threw it inbounds high off the bounce to Ingram, who quickly fired it back to LeBron in the corner and he drained a three.

Kuzma -- -- He dropped 25 against the Celtics, hit a huge three with 18 seconds left, sank five threes on the night, but people will pounce on him the next game if it’s below average. The youth is inconsistent. That’s the nature of the beast. What I really want to see is how they react in big games. Kuzma has killed the Celtics in a couple of these matchups. That’s really the closest thing this squad has had to a playoff atmosphere and he’s answered the call. I want us to get in the playoffs and really see what our young guys have. The Stats: He scored 25 points on 10-21 shooting (5-8 from three) to go with 5 boards, 2 assists, 1 block and 2 fouls in 34 minutes. He was a -1. The Action: He flashed to the ball and swished the FT jumper. He missed a three. He missed a floater (probably had McGee open for a dunk). Nice extra feed to Ingram and he set him up for FTs. He rejected Kyrie’s drive out of bounds. He attacked from the corner and shoveled it to McGee cutting for the dunk. He scored a layup off the interior feed from Hart. He didn’t get back in transition and we gave up a dunk. He couldn’t finish a layup. He missed a tough jumphook out of a timeout. He changed ends quickly and LeBron found him for a dunk. Second Half: He sank a three trailing the break. He missed a wing step-back. He popped open up top and LeBron hit him for a three. He bricked a wing three. He sank a corner three on a kickout. He drained another wing three trailing the break. He missed a wing turnaround. He missed a jumphook. He missed a fading corner three. Great cut off Rondo’s drive, he took the pass and scored the layup. He found McGee under the hoop for FTs. He attacked off the three line, faked the pass and hit the floater. He got tapped on a short floater that rattled in and out. Huge wing three on a kickout with 18 seconds left.

Ingram -- -- His defense was critical in this game. Maybe it took him out of his game offensively, who knows? But his length on Kyrie helped keep him at a 6-21 shooting night. He and McGee/Chandler may be our only strengths defensively right now as Lonzo is out. LeBron called it “exceptional.” Offensively, he made just 4-14, but look at the +18. It was critical we had him out there and Luke played him big minutes. Really, no excuse for missing as many FTs as he did. But the D on Kyrie kept the Lakers in this thing. Awful first quarter as he couldn’t hit anything, even his FTs, but he moved the ball really well as the game went along, finishing with 7 assists and was key on a few down the stretch. Nice try on that final play, but Horford caught back up to him. Kuzma thought he went through the rim, but I don’t think so. The moves the Lakers made at the trade deadline will really help LeBron, Rondo and Lonzo, but I also think BI has missed that floor spacing. Last year, he had Lopez which made the game easier for him. Let’s see how he looks now with better floor spacing. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 4-14 shooting (1-4 from three, 2-6 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 7 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 40 minutes. He was a +18. The Action: He got tapped on a layup attempt. He rejected a reverse attempt. He missed a pull-up from midrange. He missed an awkward off-balance, turnaround on the baseline. He missed a corner three. He was fouled on a dunk attempt, he missed both. He fed Lance for FTs. He iso’d and was stripped in the paint after picking up the ball. He got downhill off a Chandler screen, attacked and dunked. He attacked at the end of the quarter and missed the running, fading baseline attempt at the buzzer. He clanked a wing jumper. He pushed out and fed LeBron for a layup. He iso’d and missed a long wing jumper, you are cold, why are you doing that right now? He lobbed to LeBron on the break for the dunk. He airballed a three at the end of the half. Second Half: He lobbed to McGee in transition for a dunk. He sank a corner three on a kickout. He couldn’t finish a lob and looked undercut with no call. He couldn’t finish an And-1 layup and then made just one FT. He drew help and fed McGee for the layup. He cut weakside off Rondo’s drive, took the pass and dunked. He rattled in a pull-up wing jumper. He posted up Kyrie and was fouled with 2 minutes left, he made just one. We got it back off his missed FT and he missed a corner three, huge shot there. He scooped up a loose ball to get a stop. Huge drive and kick to Kuzma for a three. He attacked and was blocked on a reverse, nearly a good move, but the defender caught up to him.

Rondo -- -- Wearing the purple and gold in Boston for the first time and he comes up huge at the buzzer. I couldn’t quite read his lips as teammates mobbed him but there were some F-bombs dropped and it may have been directed at the Celtics org. Hard to say, but the fans did give him a cheer on introductions. He had them crying at the end. That was an amazing finish. Got me off my seat, yelling. Once Ingram was blocked on that reverse, I could almost hear the endless discussion on LG about BI’s miss. But the ball was still alive and found him. He had already gone 3-4 from behind the arc, so the touch was there tonight. Defensively, we wanted Ingram’s length on Kyrie, that left Rondo in a tough position, often covering Tatum who could use his length to shoot over him with some ease. Still, we worked it out. He nearly had a triple-double tonight, stepping up in a big one. Also, don’t forget he also hit a buzzer beating layup at the end of the third quarter and one of his threes also beat a shotclock violation. Just a great night. So the guy punches CP3 in his mug and hits a buzzer beater against the Celtics. Heck of a debut season as a Laker. He had his son at the game tonight and gave him one to remember. The Stats: He scored 17 points on 7-11 shooting (3-4 from three) to go with 7 boards (3 offensive), 10 assists, 3 turnovers and 2 fouls in 35 minutes. He was a -9. The Action: Off the mark on a lob pass, turnover. He got an offensive board and sank a wing three. He couldn’t finish a layup in early offense. He kicked to Lance for an open three. He found him for another three on the wing next time down. He attacked off the high screen and scored a layup. He drained a step-back three up against the shotclock. Second Half: He kicked out to Kuzma in transition for a three. Awful pass trying to thread it in a crowd, easily picked off, then he fouled. He hit Kuzma in transition for a three. He drained an open three in early offense. He hit a floater across the lane. He probed and found Kuzma cutting for a layup. Another probe and he hit a cutting Ingram for FTs. He iso’d against a big and scored a layup at the buzzer. He was blocked on a layup. He didn’t box out and gave up a putback. He missed a corner three. He found a teammate diving off his drive for a dunk. His layup attempt was blocked out of bounds.

McGee -- -- Another good game from him. He’s starting to string them together again. He’s changing ends with speed. He’s disrupting shots. Teammates are finding him more for lobs. We saw all that tonight. He’s getting back into form again. Good thing. With Zubac gone, we need him to slide into the starting spot and bring it like he was. Props on being the only Laker that hit both his FTs in a trip to the line tonight. The Stats: He scored 17 points on 7-11 shooting (3-5 from the line) to go with 8 boards (3 offensive), 1 block, 1 turnover and 3 fouls in 30 minutes. He was a -21. The Action: He couldn’t finish a layup. Bad tap out of an offensive board that it looked like he could have grabbed, resulted in a break the other way. His layup was blocked, he got it back and scored. He missed a poor jumphook attempt on iso. He was fouled on a layup attempt, he made one FT. He forced a man into a travel with a challenge. He cut off Kuzma’s drive and dunked. He scored a layup off the drive and dish from Lance. He couldn’t finish a layup. Second Half: Great job changing ends and Ingram found him for a dunk. He blocked a guard on a switch. He changed ends with speed, took a long outlet, attacked and scored the And-1 over Horford, he missed the FT. He scored a layup off the two-man game with LeBron. He scored a layup off the interior feed from BI. He drew FTs when Ingram found him under the hoop, he made both.

Caldwell-Pope -- -- Huge part of why we win this one. Three Lakers hit five threes and KCP did his in 23 minutes off the bench. You can see the importance in having a guy who can come off a screen and hit a jumper. He’ll be joined by another former Piston in Reggie Bullock up can also do that. This should make the offense a bit more deadly as LeBron can work up top as the point forward and shooters can work open from both sides. That corner three KCP hit late in the game was huge. He hesitated and almost jumped back a bit, but knocked that sucker down. Huge. We don’t come back in this game without him. The Stats: He scored 17 points on 6-11 shooting (5-9 from three) to go with 1 assist and 1 foul in 23 minutes. He was a +3. The Action: He missed a wing three. He missed a wide open sideline three. No box out and he gave up a putback. He sank an open three off the kickback from LeBron. After a Celtics timeout, we set up another three for KCP straight away and he knocked it down. He missed long wing jumper. Second Half: He swished a three straight away out of a timeout. He missed a three behind a screen. He missed a wing three, fading a little. He attacked and sank a pull-up in the paint. He went up high to get a ball saved by LeBron then fired it back to him in the corner for a three. Huge corner three out of a timeout after hesitating for a second with a man on him. Foul on an inbounds with 34 seconds left to give up FTs.

Hart -- -- He still needs to get right. Hopefully, adding another wing player will give him a chance to rest his sore knee and get his legs back. Very quiet night tonight and limited minutes. The Stats: He didn’t score on 0-1 shooting from three to go with 1 board, 1 block and 2 fouls in 8 minutes. He was a -10. The Action: He blocked his man in the paint. He curled, took a pass and fed Kuzma in the interior for a layup. Second Half: He missed a sideline three on a kickout.

Chandler -- -- Props to Chandler as the unsung hero of the final seconds. He was doing his thing on the offensive glass, hustling like a mad man and kept it alive. He had a couple of blocks and I think another deflection being disruptive on D. Just 15 minutes, but he was a +19. The Stats: He didn’t score or shoot and had 6 boards, 2 blocks and 1 foul in 15 minutes. He was a +19. The Action: He denied Horford’s iso attack. He blocked Kyrie who traveled without a call. Second Half: He chased after a long offensive board and tipped it out. He blocked Kyrie’s drive. He might have deflected a pass to get a key stop after blitzing a screen. Key offensive tap out of that loose ball late.

Stephenson -- -- Huge first half with all 14 of his points (3-5 from three) and 2 assists off the bench. The Lakers badly needed that. I think his size defensively was also useful as we couldn’t hide Rondo while trying to use Ingram at the point of attack. We hope that Rondo and Stephenson will be guys who step up in the big games. That’s why we got him. There were a few worries with Lance’s signing: Where would his head be at from game to game; can he defend well enough; and can he space the floor? The floor spacing has been excellent and tonight, on the road, against the Celtics, it was there. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 5-7 shooting (3-5 from three, 1-2 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 2 assist and 1 foul in 17 minutes. He was a -5. The Action: He missed a wing three. We fed him in the paint shortly later and he drew FTs, he made one. He sank a sideline three off a kickout. He popped out at the wing and swished a wing three next time down. He scooped up a loose ball under the hoop and scored a layup. He missed a wing three, not quite squaring up. He attacked and wrapped a pass around a defender to McGee for a layup. He cut under the hoop and LeBron hit him for a layup. He drained a wing three in transition. Second Half: Nothing to report.

Walton -- -- I don’t envy the roster turnover he’s had to deal with. Beyond the injuries this season, it’s just extremely hard to develop a system, chemistry and any collective team knowledge with new faces every season (and more during the season). You need time with a group to get better. This team also had some flaws that, hopefully, they helped correct for the rest of the season with the new pickups… The Lakers trailed 9-11 midway through the quarter when the timeout came… Out of that, he brought in KCP for Rondo… Chandler in for McGee down 6.... Stephenson in for Kuzma, down 6… Lakers hurting themselves badly from the line. Missed FTs the difference in this one early (2-9 at one point…then later 3-11…they’d finish a poor 7-18)… Rondo back in while LBJ sat… Hart in with a minute left, Lakers down 10… Stephenson scoring buckets… The Lakers trailed 30-24 after the first quarter… He started a McGee, Kuzma, Hart, Stephenson, Rondo lineup… Down 10, LeBron in for Stephenson… Timeout after another soft stretch of defense by the Lakers now trailing 13… Ingram back in for Hart down 13… Another timeout down 18 shortly later (Celtics 9-11 this quarter)… Lance in for Rondo… They trimmed the lead from 18 to 6 at one point…The Lakers trailed 66-57 at the half. They went 3-11 from the FT line (Celtics were 9-9). After the Celtics had a 13-0 advantage in the fastbreak early, the Lakers would finish down just 12-15 in that category at the half… They quickly cut the lead to 4 getting out on the break to start the half… Lakers down just 3 after 4 minutes when the timeout came… Chandler and KCP in for McGee and Rondo as we evened things up… Up 6 and Rondo back in for LeBron with 2 minutes left… We went small for a defensive stand and gave up a putback. I swear it seems like we get burned on that with frequency… The Lakers led 99-93 heading into the fourth… He started a McGee, Hart, Stephenson, KCP, Rondo lineup… This unit lost the lead and Luke called a timeout after 1:50 of action… He sat Hart for LeBron out of that… Ingram back in, Lakers down 4. Stephenson out… Kuzma finally back in with 7 minutes left, down 5… Lakers right there trying to come back and they got tapped on a corner three and a floater. Timeout down 6 after a Celtic three… We sank a three out of that timeout… Timeout Boston after tied up with 34 seconds left. We fouled and gave up FTs to trail by 2. Timeout Lakers… Kuzma hit a three with 18 seconds left, Lakers up 1. Timeout Celtics… Wow. And then the spectacular finish. No timeout, just push it up court and attack. Rondo came up big on the buzzer beater after BI’s miss… In a span of two games, you go from one of the worst games to one of the best…

Nice bounce back game from the Lakers. Keep your youth and add some FAs as you go.

I hope AD walks over to the Lakers for free. Maybe the dumb Celtics will trade for him and then he walks to the Lakers after a year!

Great game, and the guys worked their tails off tow win, but man we have to shoot free throws better. All those misses should of cost us the game... we just got lucky. We won’t win many games shooting free throws that badly so I hope they take them more seriously.

I'm with ya on trying to decipher what rondo was saying.

I'm guessing it was something along the lines of “this is still my house" or “i build this place".

Just a guess

Thanks DB!!!

As the late, great Jackie Gleason would have said: "HOW SWEET IT IS!!!!"

The Lakers were falling apart and simultaneously becoming a laughing stock. Some petty small-market GM had just very publicly and in humiliating fashion branded nearly our entire roster (excluding LeBron) as trash. Who's the fool? Every Laker not named LeBron, or Demps?

What a great time to come into Boston, who some mutts in the media wanted to brand as a winner in this embarrassing AD saga, and beat the Celtics on their home court. Yeah fool, that was a nice national TV display of Tatum and your pretty Celtic heartthrobs getting beat because the worthless Lakers responded.

Here's to the Lakers showing some resilience!!

Take that Danny Ainge!

Foston just got Bucked!!!
