No Fight in These Dogs… A lot of distractions for most of the team heading into this one. Everyone but LBJ has been rumored as part of a package for AD. I’m sure it played some factor in this one, but the Lakers looked like they wanted to improve their draft pick by tanking. It was awful.

I’m sure most fans wanted to trade everyone early on as the Lakers fell back big. At one point, they would trail by 29 in the first half. Poor effort, poor recognition defensively, dumb turnovers and a general lack of fight allowed the Pacers to play loose against the Lakers. Easy to score in your own gym when the crowd is going and everyone is feeling comfortable.

The Lakers gave up 69 points to the Pacers and trailed by 23 at the half. By the end of the night, they’d trail by 40+ and give up an Indiana franchise record number of threes as well as a season high in scoring. They were crushed 136-94. The Lakers lost every quarter.

“There’s a million excuses we could come up with,” Luke said afterward, rattling off a few things including the trade talk, “but they shot the heck out of the ball.”

Next up Boston and the trade deadline. Time to show some pride.

LeBron -- -- Worst loss of his career as far as margin apparently. He had 13 points on 5-9 shooting and 5 assists at the half, but also 5 turnovers, which helped the Pacers get out in transition. That helped contribute to Indiana’s easy scoring and butt kicking. Just a sub par outing again. He did show a bit of athleticism against a big on a huge throwdown down the middle of the paint. He didn’t play the fourth. The Stats: He scored 18 points on 7-12 shooting (2-5 from three, 2-3 from the line) to go with 7 boards, 9 assists, 1 steal, 6 turnovers and 1 foul in 30 minutes. He was a -17. The Action: Behind-the-back pass turnover, three the other way. Bounce pass to Zubac on the break for the layup. He choked a layup after probing the lane. He took a bounce pass in the paint and scored a layup (should have been an And-1). He hit Kuzma cutting to the middle of the paint for a short one. He sank a 35-foot three in early offense. He missed a three next time down. He hit KCP coming off a screen for a jumper. He spun and lost the ball. He attacked and missed the short runner. He lobbed to McGee for a score out of a timeout. He threw a bounce pass too early, turnover, layup the other way. He sank a face-up elbow jumper. Not close on a corner three. Bad idea on a bounce pass, easily picked off. He swished another deep three. He crossed over on a big, attacked and hammered down the And-1 dunk over him, he made the FT. Second Half: He put his man in jail and scored a layup. He grabbed a board, pushed it up and drew FTs, he made one. He missed a three. Soft touch on a pass over the D to Ingram in transition for a dunk. He lobbed to McGee for a dunk on the two-man game. He took an interior feed, spun and scored a layup. He iso’d, the D watched and he hit Kuzma cutting for a layup. He set up McGee for FTs off the two-man game.

Kuzma -- -- Just 2-8 and 0-4 from three in the first half. In the second half, he got the Pacers and their fans fired up when he was rejected at the rim on a throwdown attempt. He went quietly into the night from there. The Stats: He scored 12 points on 5-13 shooting (0-4 from three, 2-4 from the line) to go with 1 board, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 25 minutes. He was a -19. The Action: He missed a wing three off the hop. He swished a midrange wing jumper for the Lakers first score. He missed a quick-fire 18-footer flashing to the ball, not a great look. He missed a wing three. He hit the short jumphook after a good cut from weak to strong to take the pass from LeBron. He missed a wide open three straight away. Bad idea trying to feed Chandler in tight quarters, turnover. He missed an open corner three. He missed a jumphook out of a timeout. Second Half: His baseline floater was blocked. Quick attack from the perimeter in early offense for a layup. Up-fake in the paint off the interior feed, he spun and scored a layup. Quick attack off a made basket as he took the advanced pass, spun and drew FTs, he made one. He was denied at the rim on a dunk attempt (that got the Pacer fans going). He fell asleep weakside and got backdoored for a layup. He cut when the D was ballwatching and LeBron found him for a layup. He drew FTs on a drive, he made one.

Ingram -- -- It looked like he was off to a decent start in this one with 10 points in the first quarter. He’d score just a couple the rest of the way. He had the team-low -24 in the first half, but that was probably more of a result of a bad minute or so with the second unit. Not that the first unit wasn’t bad, but that gave him the extra suckage on the +/-. When he was at the line (and other Lakers), the crowd chanted “LeBron is gonna trade you.” The Stats: He scored 12 points on 4-8 shooting (4-5 form the line) to go with 6 boards, 1 assist, 1 turnover and no fouls in 29 minutes. He was a -31. The Action: Way off the mark on an outlet, turnover, three the other way. He worked the post and hit the baseline turnaround. He took contact against Evans and drew FTs, he made both. He took an outlet, lost a defender with a behind-the-back-dribble and then was fouled on the layup attempt, he made both FTs. He faced up, attacked across the lane and muscled his way to an And-1, he missed the FT. He attacked off the kickout from Beasley and scored a layup. He couldn’t finish a lob on the break. Second Half: Wild finish as he probed in transition. He missed a turnaround in the paint. He missed a wing jumper. He dunked in transition, taking a pass over the top of the D. He gave up a putback score on the defensive boards.

Zubac -- -- Fractured finger in his left hand, Zubac rubbed some dirt on it and hit the court. The Pacers looked a little fast for him at times defensively. He was caught in no man’s land more than a couple of times. Eventually the Lakers started switching everything and that seemed to just add more gas to the fire. The Stats: He scored 8 points on 4-5 shooting to go with 4 boards, 1 assist, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 19 minutes. He was a -17. The Action: No help on Kuzma’s man and we gave up an open jumper. Layup in transition off the pass from LeBron. He couldn’t handle a bounce pass from Rondo. He powered in a layup between a double team and wanted the foul. He was blocked on a weak finish attempt. He leaked out off a challenge, got the long outlet and dunked with a second left. Second Half: He reversed off a corner entry out of a timeout.

Rondo -- -- Watching him play for most of this season, the cerebral part of his game is overrated. It’s good, but let me put it this way. He’s not as smart as he thinks he is, and that gets him into trouble. That game against the Clippers where he tried to throw the ball off a leg at the end of the game and it nearly backfired was one of the more obvious examples. But on any given night it seems like some of the passes he makes are just bad ideas. He also out-tricked himself on the dribble tonight on iso and fumbled it out of bounds. He had the team-low -32 tonight. The Stats: He scored 3 points on 1-3 shooting (1-1 from three) to go with 6 assists, 1 block, 3 turnovers and 3 fouls in 28 minutes. He was a -32. The Action: He took off too early after getting pressured on the perimeter and attacking, he missed the layup. His layup was blocked from behind. He didn’t match up in transition and gave up a dunk. His bounce pass to Chandler on the inbounds was picked off. He sank an open corner three off the kickout from Beasley. He tried to spin a dribble like CP3, then lost the handle out of bounds. He gambled for a steal, missed and the ball went back to his man for a wide open three at the buzzer. Off the mark on a lob in transition. He found Lance on the break for a dunk. He didn’t take the open three and fed Zubac who was blocked. Second Half: Finally a weakside tag and he drew a charge on the short-roll D. He probed and fed Kuzma in the paint for a score. He threw a pass low when McGee was looking for a lob.

Caldwell-Pope -- -- Just brick city for KCP tonight. He had a ton of open looks but couldn’t make the Pacers pay. My favorite play, however, was him stepping inbounds and then back out of bounds after a made basket to turn the ball over again on the inbounds pass. Well done. The Stats: He scored 2 points on 1-6 shooting (0-5 from three) to go with 3 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 23 minutes. He was a -11. The Action: He sank a pull-up elbow jumper coming off the screen. Pocket pass to McGee for the dunk out of the timeout. Second Half: He missed a wing three. He missed a corner three. Interior feed to McGee for a dunk. He missed a wide open corner three. He missed an open wing three. He missed an open three straight away.

McGee -- -- Luke praised him after this one as one of two positives (the other was LeBron’s ability to hammer on someone). A couple of nice dunks early for JaVale when the Lakers were on their heels in the second quarter. He worked the two-man game on those and his long two steps covered a lot of ground before throwing those down. That was a brief moment of fight in the Lakers. Really good two-man sequences from him tonight. Hopefully, this is a sign of him getting back into sync with how he was playing earlier in the season. It felt like he’d be the better matchup at C in this one after the first few minutes as Zubac just looked a little to slow-footed at times. The Stats: He scored 16 points on 7-8 shooting (2-2 from the line) to go with 4 boards, 1 steal and 2 fouls in 15 minutes. He was a -13. The Action: He hammered down a dunk off a pocket pass. He got a piece of a layup attempt. He forced his man into a travel. He crushed Sabonis on a pick in the backcourt. Wow, Euro-step off the pass as he rolled down the lane and he hammered the dunk. He guided in a controlled lob layup in traffic out of a timeout. He missed a follow dunk attempt. He reached, got out of position and gave up an And-1. Second Half: He threw down a lob pass off the two-man game with LeBron. Another throwdown off the pocket pass from Lance. Fouled on another pocket pass finish for FTs. He dunked off the interior feed. He missed a layup (didn’t hit anything) and then tipped it in (probably a travel). He drew FTs on the offensive glass.

Chandler -- -- Not much action for him tonight. Teammates couldn’t connect with him on a couple of interior passes. That was about the impact. The Stats: He had no stats in 5 minutes and was a -6. The Action: He couldn’t hold onto a couple tough interior passes. Second Half: He did not play in the second half.

Beasley -- -- He didn’t score, missing all eight attempts he took. Some good passing sequences, however, so it wasn’t quite as bad a game as the stats might show. But, yeah, pretty much garbage. The Stats: He didn’t score on0-8 shooting (0-2 from three) to go with 5 boards, 3 assists, 1 turnover and 1 foul in 12 minutes. He was a -12. The Action: No help-side recognition and we gave up a dunk. He attacked the paint and kicked to Rondo for three. Again to Beasley on the left side, he attacked, drew the D and hit Ingram who took it for a layup. He missed a floater, got it back and missed the short one. He threw an interior pass away. He didn’t take the three, attacked and was blocked. Second Half: He missed a reverse. He attacked, spun and missed hard off the glass. He missed an open wing three. He threw a long outlet away, three the other way. He attacked and couldn’t finish. He missed a corner three.

Stephenson -- -- Back in his old arena. Unfortunately, we stunk it up for him. He did get a nice throwdown in transition and was also able to get to the line quite a bit. But we were never in this one for any of that to matter. And if you are reading this far down into this game coverage to the Lance Stephenson section of a blow out, props to you. Much appreciated. The Stats: He scored 13 points on 3-7 shooting (0-2 from three, 7-8 from the line) to go with 1 board, 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and 2 fouls in 28 minutes. He was a -24. The Action: Not close on a wide open three after we stole the ball in the back court. He missed a pull-up 16-footer. He hammered down a dunk in transition when Rondo found him. He missed a wing three. Second Half: Pocket pass to McGee for a dunk. He attacked down the middle of the paint for FTs. He drew FTs to start the quarter. He charged on a drive, using an arm to shed a defender. He attacked in transition and had a layup goaltended (looked like a legit block). He missed a floater. He attacked for FTs. He muscled his way to a layup.

Mykhailiuk -- -- In to start the fourth for some extended garbage time run. Not much worth reporting. The Stats: He scored 5 points on 1-3 shooting (0-1 from three, 3-4 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 1 assist, 1 block and no fouls in 12 minutes. He was a -14. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He block/swiped a drive in the paint. He drew FTs getting whacked on a finish attempt in the paint, he made one. He scored a layup when Beasley spotted him open under the hoop. He was blocked on a layup. He earned more FTs. He missed a three in transition.

Wagner -- -- With the game well out of hand, we started him with Svi in the fourth. There was a play where he and Stephenson fought alone for a defensive rebound and they fumbled it out of bounds. Moe was flat on his back on the court, sprawled out like a dead man. That pretty much summarized this one. The Stats: He scored 5 points on 2-2 shooting (1-1 from three) to go with 1 board, 1 steal, 2 turnovers and no fouls in 12 minutes. He was a -14. The Action: He did not play in the first half. Second Half: He attacked off a three line and threw a pass away. He swished an open three straight away. He crossed over a guard, then spun around him for a layup. He swiped a ball from a man with a reach. He traveled on the other end to give it back.

Walton -- -- Quick timeout as Laker turnovers turned into threes the other way. They trailed 10-2 after 2 minutes… KCP in for Kuzma down 20-14 after 7 minutes… Chandler and Beasley in for Zubac and LeBron, Lakers down 5… Poor final 30 seconds from the Lakers and they trailed 33-26 after the first quarter… They started a Chandler, Beasley, Ingram, KCP, Stephenson lineup… LBJ and Kuzma back in down 11 after a minute, Beasley and Ingram out… Chandler out for McGee. Timeout Lakers down 42-28 with 9:32 left. Team is falling apart… KCP and Lance out for Ingram and Rondo. So starters with McGee… Zubac in for McGee as the Lakers fall back by 20… Lakers standing around on the defensive glass now… Pacers playing loose and extending the lead on a 23-4 run... The Pacers shot 9-17 from three and the Lakers had 12 turnovers… Lance in for Rondo, Lakers down 30… McGee in for Zubac midway through the quarter… KCP in for Kuzma… The Lakers trailed 101-73 heading into the fourth… He started a McGee, Wagner, Svi, Stephenson, Rondo lineup… Garbage time…

So nice you had to post it twice?

Thanks DB . I really only fully paid attention to the second half of this game and doing so was agony. Watching and taking notes on this ball game must’ve been hideous.

He wanted to play with his best buddy Westbrook, even if we had no LeBron he wasn't coming here to play with a bunch of kids.

Thanks DB. What an awful game. After an awful 'Super' Bowl.

And on the play you mentioned where Lance battled Mo for the rebound and they both lost, iirc Stephenson didn't even come over to help Wagner up off the floor. Yeah. There's vet leadership.

Please edit Beezly’s highlight of the game DB! First half: taking his braids out. 2nd half: back in with a half man bun, ponytail thing.

Thanks for the write up. Now, to the volt with this!

Well I think that played a bigger role than anticipated but I think people underestimate how much a lot of other NBA players don't want to play with LeBron.

They don't want to be subject to trade rumors and blamed when things go south like so many others.

LeBron would've been better off staying with the Cavs where he gets an easy path to the Finals and can do no wrong in NE Ohio.

He won't get that free ride here.

This game was pathetic.

The Pacers were on the second night of a back to back. The Lakers had two days rest since their last game. Yet watching the game the Pacers had way more energy and won the vast majority of the hustle plays. In addition the Lakers gave up 33 points off of 19 turnovers. It was too easy for the Pacers.

I've attended several games in Indy when the Lakers come to town. Thankfully this year I passed as ticket prices for this particular game skyrocketed. For whatever reason, more than once it seems like the Lakers check out when visiting Indiana. My theory is it's just plain boring here.

So you were not there to cheer them up? Of course they lost...
