well soon start retiring less famous players. only a matter of time. we're so spoiled, used to winning every other year for 30 years. not anymore. we are nearly 10 years now of suckage. i bet we'll do a 2nd tier type retirement stuff sometime in the future. maybe not hanging the big giant jerseys, but i can see like the minny championships display, a single banner with a bunch of 2nd tier players on it.

Nah. The Lakers only have a history of retiring Hall of Famers who made a substantial contribution to the team, and there's no reason to think that will change. The next guy we retired will likely be Gasol, probably in 4 to 6 years. Then maybe Lebron. That is probably it for the next decade -- and 2 in a decade is all you really need (and is way more than most teams).

Oh, and the people on the Minn banner aren't "second tier players." Everyone on the banner is a Hall of Famer. They should each really have their own jersey. but the Lakers have always had this weird thing about not acknowledging the Minnesota players, though the Lakers sure do like to include the championships they won in their ring count.

Being such a new franchise, they obviously lowered the bar to such a low level so they could find some historical figures...

On another note - do they retire Durant’s number when he retires? If Durant leaves GS after this yr, does he get his number retired in GS?

There are no rules for who teams can retire.

The Brooklyn Nets retired Dr. J's number because he spent 3 years playing for the NY Nets in the old ABA.

The Sun retired Barkley after 4 years

The Blazers retired Walton who only played 209 games for them.

My guess is Durant gets retired by the Warriors and the Thunder.
