OKC to retire Nick Collison’s number. This is the first number retired in their history.
This is kind of cringeworthy. I’d be embarrassed if I was an OKC Thunder fan.
On another note - do they retire Durant’s number when he retires? If Durant leaves GS after this yr, does he get his number retired in GS?
Is 3 yrs long enough to get your number retired? If OKC n GS don’t retire his number, I can see a scenario where Durant doesn’t get his number retired by any team. It’s a possibility if he keeps moving around every 4 yrs or so |

Well, he is an OKC Thunder lifer....but thats all you can say about him.
My guess if they do retire KD's number it will be after Westbrook retires. |

When you see another team retiring the Jersey of a guy who averaged 5.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in his career, it really makes you appreciate the Lakers with their platoon of former All-Stars (Van Exel, Jones, Divac, Ceballos, Nixon, Green, Bynum), or fringe All-Stars (Odom, Scott) or even role players with multiple championships who contributed far more (Horry, Rambis, Fisher)... It makes you thankful to have grown up as a Lakers fan. |

Finally, Nate McMilllian is not the only 5.9 ppg lifetime scorer to have his jersey retired. |

I think he provided more than the number on his stat sheet. But it is still a weird thing compared to other franchises... |

It's seriously embarrassing. I don't think every franchise should have to have the standard of a Hall of Famer only going up in the rafters, but this is ridiculous.
And yes, KD is a lock to get his # retired by OKC. THEY JUST CHOSE TO RETIRE NICK COLLISON'S NUMBER! |

On the surface and without looking at stats, this feels like if the Lakers suddenly put Kurt Rambis’ number up, minus the rings.

For fun, the all-time, all-worse retired number team (with their lifetime stats)
C -- Vlade Divac 12-8-3
PF - Nick Collison 6-5-1
SF- Larry Steele 8-3-3
SG - Nate McMillan 6-4-6
PG - Al Attles 9-4-4
Bench: Alvin Adams, Malik Sealy, Larry Steele, Dave Twardzik, Dan Marino (yes, the Heat retired a number for him) |

I think the only retired centers who aren't in the Hall of Fame are him, Zydrunis Ilgauskas, Bill Lambier, Mark Eaton, Jack Sikma and Alvin Adams.
I think Vlade, Z, Eaton and Adams are all roughly at the same level, and you could pick anyone of them.
Vlade never really had a really good season. He made one all-star team as an injury replacement, but that was more about the west centers being weak that him being especially good. His career year was 16-10-4, which is solid, but not exactly stellar. Even in his career best year, he was probably only the 5-8th best center in the league. |

because not all people are drama queens... geez... if they want to retire a number let them... Pat Riley retired Jordan's number and he was never a Heat. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. That should be a no-brainer. But team owners and fans are kinda petty nowadays.
Cavs fans were debating whether to retire Kyrie's number. He's also a no-brainer IMO.
At least the Lakers were sensible to honor Shaq. Granted, they did wait 2 years after he retired (and almost 10 years since he actually played for the Lakers). |

well soon start retiring less famous players. only a matter of time. we're so spoiled, used to winning every other year for 30 years. not anymore. we are nearly 10 years now of suckage. i bet we'll do a 2nd tier type retirement stuff sometime in the future. maybe not hanging the big giant jerseys, but i can see like the minny championships display, a single banner with a bunch of 2nd tier players on it. |
